Do you have an issue with pets performing the dishwasher prewash step?

Absolutely, no issues with this. Our dogs were always allowed to lick the plate and now our grand dog has gotten t hat role.

No problem. I let my dog lick my face. So dishes are fine. I wouldn't let a smoker lick my plates or my face.

Doesn't bother me. Our hot water is about 4 billion degrees so pretty much everything gets obliterated in a dishwasher cycle.

We never let our dog lick plates clean. Not sure why? I’d have no issue with it, it’s just not something we’ve done.

In theory it's really no different than eating off plates and drinking from glasses that multiple people have used (talking about both at home and in restaurants.). I mean, those plates and utensils are used by people that are sick, the forks drop on the floor etc.

But, it does seem a little gross to eat off a plate that a pet has licked by dogs/cats especially since animals are know to lick themselves, outside cats are killing mice, some dogs slobber a lot etc. and that seems just gross. But like I said, the dishwasher sanitizes everything.

Our dog's nickname is pre-wash for a reason. She only gets the occasional bit of food from the table, but after leftovers have been put away, she clears the plates of whatever remains.

Right - I mean, how is it any different from people using them? If they are washed, they are washed.

Now, granted, I have walked away from a plate for a minute to come back and find a cat nibbling, and I still ate the food!

We do not give our dog any type of human food except for a vegetable every now and then or rice and chicken for an upset stomach or allow her to lick a plate.

I have no problem with plate licking followed by plate washing. It would be ideal if the dog could be trained to put it in the dishwasher after they are done with it. (damn apposing thumbs thing) What does bother me is the human face/mouth licking that I see over and over. I draw the line at that, I'm not going to go into the scientific reason it is more the dog butt to human lips part that literally gags me.

My dog used to get the plate and our cooking pans. Her tongue was so powerful (~105 lb. Rotty) that she learned to put her paw in the pan so it wouldn't slide across the tile floor with each lick. Smart girl.

Don't own a dog, but it sounds gross to me. I don't let my friend's dog lick my face either. Dogs don't have the hygiene habits of people and I treat them accordingly.

Not because it grosses me out, because I do believe that the dishwasher will clean and sanitize them. For us, it was because we didn’t give our dogs any table food. I wanted our eating time to be completely ignored by them, which it was.

Our Westie, Obi, will jump up on the door while we are loading the dishwasher if we let him. We usually shoo him away because it’s annoying.

No, I have/had dogs and cats and if I fed them any people food I would put it on a paper plate or just feed them out of my hand. We actually use a separate set of spoons for the wet cat food and a separate measuring cup that stays in the cats' dry food. We wash the spoons in the dishwasher but we don't use those to eat.

I have two indoor cats, and they sometimes get a bit of people food, but mostly off their own dishes...which I then put in the same dishwasher with ours, so it's I guess it's more that I don't want to train them to steal from our plates before we're done. If I had dogs that couldn't reach or jump up, I would probably let them lick the occasional plate.

My sister-in-law’s dog would hold down the plate with his paw and lick pancake crumbs and maple syrup off when they were camping with us. But it was a PAPER PLATE, so then went right into the campfire.
