Kinda a spin off of the washing machine thread.

Do you let your pets lick your dishes prior to them being washed?

I have never had a problem with it, the dishwasher either gets the dishes clean or it doesn't. I figure if it doesn't get them clean after a pet licks them, it doesn't get them clean after a person uses them either and I should not use the dishwasher. I don't want to be hand washing anything, so I trust the dishwasher.

My dogs were always offered up the evenings dishes to preclean.

You should do a poll!

If they’re going in the dishwasher we will let them enjoy some meat scraps or juice off a plate. It’s a treat for them.

But that's my DH's job to do the "prerinse". Just kidding.

Do you have issues with the dog climbing into dishwasher because you missed a dish to offer?

While they never climbed in the dishwasher, various past dogs did come running when the dishwasher was being loaded to offer up their services and being large dogs could reach quite far into the dishwasher to help.

While she doesn't get much in the way of people food, I don't care if my dog licks the plates. I mean, I let her lick me as a natural form of canine affection and bonding, so why not a plate? I honestly worry more about the toxicity of the decaying food on the dirty plates than my dog's tongue...and if I can't trust the dishwasher to get it all safely clean, what's the point in having the dishwasher?

My dog tries to lick what she can reach as I load the dishwasher. She’s under 20 pounds so very limited reach. We dogsit my sister’s dog who is about the same size and he does the same thing as does the neighbor’s dog and my dad’s dog when they visit.

I run it on a sanitizing cycle to assist with drying so don’t get too worked up about it but do find it gross.
