if so, what combinations do you use?

How much water
How many tea bags
How much sugar
What strength setting do you use

DH got one for Christmas and is getting frustrated. He's trying to make 2 or 3 quarts but it's hard figuring out how many tea bags to use, etc...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I have one and enjoy it.

Mine has lines in the pitcher to measure out water and ice, but no strength settings so I just follow the lines. I usually use 5-6 bags, unless I'm doing herbal, in which case I use more.

No sugar, here. I use splenda and add it after the fact.

Didn't your machine come with directions? Maybe the manufacturer has some online?

I have one and use it everyday. It has lines on the pitcher for the water fill and the ice fill and for the tea bags I use 6 regular tea bags. For the sugar I make mine plain and add sugar afterwards when I pour it in the glass because I use equal and hubby uses sugar.

Hope that helps
Kathy

We have the instructions. It states 5-6 tea bags but in the box it came with family size bags. I just told him to use less since they are bigger bags. I guess he's just picky so I told him I would ask on the DIS board.

He tried 4 combinations last night. I'm sure after he keeps playing around, he'll find a good combination he likes. Only wasting water and bags (which are cheap anyway) so I'm sure he'll try again tonight...

I have one and mine has the markings for water/ice, but I only use 2 tea bags, usually one green tea and one flavored Lipton tea bag! I guess it depends on how strong you want your tea. BTW, I'm going to see if there's a noticeable difference (to me) if I use more bags! :goodvibes

Dh is from the south and likes sweet tea so here's how we make it:

We use 4 regular size tea bags, 2 family size
We follow the lines on the pitcher for ice/water
Before we start it we also add sugar to the ice, ALOT of sugar. We don't have a precise measurement, but I'd estimate a cup and a half.

We played around with it alot to find this combination to suit us.

I use the Lipton decaf tea bags. I use 8 regular bags and instead of using ice, I fill the maker up with water and then I also fill the container up halfway with water. I like my tea a little stronger and this is perfect for me. I don't use sweetener.

I usually make a gallon. I use either 10 Lipton tea bags or one Lipton gallon size tea bag. I fill the pitcher to the water line, make it. Pour that into a gallon size pitcher. Fill the iced tea maker pitcher to the water line again, make another pot, add that to my gallon size pitcher. Add two cups of sugar and ice cubes to fill the gallon size pitcher.

Depends on the one you have as to how to use it. Some have a the pitcher that just kinda slips under a spot and some actually have a whole piece where you put the brew basket and tea on top of the pitcher.

I've used one for years and have replaced it a few times. I swear by these Iced Tea post. All the ones we've had have been from Mr Coffee. The one I have now is a 3 qt, round pitcher (some have an oval shape to them). I only use 4 teabags and it's plenty strong. I pretty much use Paradise Tropical Tea which is pretty strong. They are regular sized tea bags. I open the strength dial all the way when brewing. I fill most of the pitcher with ice and then brew.

You may need to experiment depending on the tea as some teas are stronger than others. I would just sweeten a little at a time to your liking. I don't use any sweetener so can't help you there. It's a great gadget, I'd go crazy without mine :teeth:

His is the Mr. Coffee with the 3 quart pitcher. The machine part itself has the brew basket on top and the pitcher slips under a spot in front.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll be printing this off and hopefully it will help. He's having fun trying and can't wait to get an exact taste that he'd like...

Yeah! I'm really surprised that a non-southerner likes sweet tea. Usually when we go anywhere, (west, northwest, etc.) the tea is never sweet. Love that sweet tea!

We use 6 lipton tea bags, and add 1 cup of sugar to the bottom of the pitcher before I brew the tea, then once the tea is finished brewing, I stir the tea and sugar, then add the ice to the ice line.

This is exactly how we make it. We like it sweet and it took some playing around before we found that combination that we really liked.

DH makes 3 quarts at a time, and uses 10 regular sized tea bags. The instructions recomended 8 to 12 for 3 quarts, so he picked 10 as a middle number and it turns out he likes it that way. Sure is cheaper than buying the powdered mix stuff or Snapple, and healthier too, I'm sure!
