And if so, do you use it as such? When we remodeled our kitchen, one of the things I was most adamant about was having a built-in desk as part of it. It has a corian top and the drawers match our kitchen cabinets, etc. Above it is a great casement window that opens out. I had envisioned doing my bills there while daydreaming out the window, perhaps writing a letter to a faraway friend, etc. Instead, it's now loaded with junk from Easter that I've yet to put away. I hardly EVER sit at it and I don't think I've ever used it for its intended purpose.:upsidedow

How about you?

I have a large desk in my kitchen and I love it. It is where I have my laptop. I use it every day.

I had it taken out when we remodeled. I like a kitchen to be a kitchen and I don't like a lot of clutter. I had the desk area taken out, and extra cabinets put in.

??? No, and I don't have a stove or dishwasher in my office(do have a mini fridge though):)

This is mine too! Well, my countertop isn't as nice, but mine is always covered in junk. It has my recharging station for our phones/ipods, but I don't think anyone has ever sat at it and used it for a desk, in the 7 years we've lived here. I still love it there though, and hope maybe someday that will change...:lmao:

No,it would just be something else for me NOT to use.....along with the cooker, stove, pots, pans, griddle, food mixer and crock pot!!

Micro mania in my house.:)

I don't have one in my house, but having a desk in my kitchen has always been on my wish list for whenever we remodel (We don't have an office either - our desktop sits in the corner of our DR.)

But knowing me, if I ever did get a desk in my kitchen, it's fate would be the same as the OP's - it would be another flat surface that would collect junk in my house.

I don't have a desk in my kitchen, but I was talking to a friend about how I wanted one when I built my next house. She told me not to bother b/c it'll be just one more place to put all the junk, like the one she has in her kitchen..

I do, and I love it. It will also be good in the future as I believe kids using the Internet should have to do it in a main family area. Having our main computer in the kitchen makes it very visible. It's great for cooking, too. I can watch videos or have my recipe up while cooking.

Yes, and I LOVE it!! The top is a dark cobalt marbled with white (but just laminate). I have a two-drawer file cabinet to the left and a set of oak drawers on the right that match my kitchen cabinets. I use it all the time.....mostly to toss mail or papers that need to be dealt with. When it gets looking messy I'll sit down and sort through everything. I keep a deskpad calendar on it where I make note of which bills are due when. I'll pay the few bills that I don't do online, make myriad lists upon lists of things that need doing or that I'd otherwise just forget ;), sign permission slips, write thank yous or notes.....I really love it and am glad we incorporated it in there when building the house!

OP don't give up your dream/vision, it can happen! :rotfl2:

I've thought about putting our computer here as well, but then would have to move all the outlets, etc. I like the idea of having the recipes there instead of doing what I now do which is running back and forth to the computer for each step.;)

Yes, I put a desk in when we remodeled our kitchen. It is where I have my laptop and my ds16 must use it when he is on facebook, etc. I didn't have room to put in a filing cabinet but it has 3 small drawers on the left where I keep pens, pencils in drawer #1, coupons in middle drawer, and flashcards/sightwords in drawer #3. I have a wide, 2 door cabinets above it where I keep all kinds of stationary and art supplies I don't want the kids getting into. There is also a bulletin board above the desk-under the cabinet.

The desk is planning central for our family with our calendar. I sit here when the kids are doing homework at the kitchen table. I can easily look up a recipe while I am cooking. I pay all bills from this desk too. I love it being right in the heart of the home. I have 1 pile on the right hand side that is school stuff that needs to be dealt with/filed/trashed.

I started several years ago having my laptop on the counter for recipe lookup, etc. DH's solution was to get me a big rolltop desk for the breakfast room. Well, I eventually moved our main floor desktop to the desk and the laptop moved to the den for net surfing while watching TV. Fast forward a little while and DD appropriated my laptop for her room. New desktop in the breakfast room now, along with another desktop in other DD's room. Guess which computer gets the most use? The kitchen one. I find my desk to be a lifesaver. Our old house had a built in one that I used just for bill pay (before the computer age tok over), now I couldn't live without it!

We use ours all the time. With that being said, maybe if we had a spare room to use as an office we wouldn't use it. But we don't and this was a great solution. I like to keep it very tidy and my DH tries, bless his clutter loving heart! We recently remodeled the kitchen. Now the desk area is the same cabinetry and counter top as the rest of the kitchen. It really turned out great. Before that I had a free standing desk with a hutch that was the same wood. The kitchen look and flow seems much better now.

I have one in the apartment and it is useful, I keep my laptop there and whenever there is a recipe that is not in my books, I can look it up and cook as I read along.

I do and love it!
We did a major kitchen remodel a year ago and put in a great corner desk..granite top...upper cupboards have leaded glass and a lighted corner shelf unit. I work from home...Travel Agent...so all the dreams happen there!;)

No!! DBF wanted us to put one in there, but they are always so cluttered and a catch-all, so I veto'd that idea.
We have an office area with 2 desks.. that's enough!

Yes and I too love it!!! That was one thing I really wanted when we added on to our kitchen. I have my laptop there and it works out great!!

Not technically IN the kitchen but we have one in the great room where the kitchen , dining, and family room are all one room. We love it and have our desktop and wireless printer there. It has plenty of storage for all our computer junk.

I have TWO desks in my kitchen! They are blue and themed like Finding Nemo to match the rest of the Disney kitchen! They are home school desks.
We do not however, have a kitchen table. It would just be a clutter magnet. We either eat on the kitchen floor in a circle (like the Japanese and many other cultures have for centuries) or we eat on the couch in front of the TV. Besides, we have a BEAUTIFUL Amtico floor (the same exact glitter flooring in Innovations in Epcot), and I don't want to cover it with an ugly table. Besides, it wouldn't fit with the extreme themed home.

Some of the pictures are old and need to be updated... but you get the picture! The kitchen is certainly not for everyone, but we like it.:goodvibes
