Do you have 11/11 off

I am working that day. If school is out and it isn't one of the 4 (?) major holidays we are super busy. Most parents want to avoid taking their kids out of school for appointments so it tends to be a crazy day for us.

My kids have it off but they also have an assembly on Friday that they have been preparing for. They brought home stars so we can write down names of family and friends who have served in the military. Then they post all the stars throughout the School.

We do recognise 11/11 over here too but under the guise of "Remembrance Day" or "Poppy Day". We wear poppies to remember those who fell in Word War 1 in Flanders Fields where the poppies now grow.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

No, but we get the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve day off so I can't complain! I'd rather have both of those than 11/11.

This is part of Memorial Day events where I'm from. Each year a student is chosen to memorize and recite this poem and I was chosen when I was in 8th grade.

ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE POEMS!!!!
I recite this to my kids in the most dramatic voice ever!
I am the English and Social Studies homework parent, DH handles Math and Science.

In response to the original question: I'm a Real Estate Agent and DH owns his own business..... we don't know what this "day off" is that you speak of.

I am sorry that some of you have to work
Don't feel sorry for me. We vote on our holidays. Because I work on Columbus Day, Easter (not me since I work 5 days but it is not a holiday), Veteran's Day and some others, I have 5 days off for Thanksgiving and have about 2 weeks off over Christmas.

I have Veteran's Day off. I work as support staff in the public schools, in special ed. We have the following PAID days off from school: Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Christmas, New Year's, Martin Luther King Day, President's Day, Patriot's Day, and Memorial Day. Year-round support staff also get 4th of July off. This is the first time support staff has been paid for the holidays! It's particularly nice on President's and Patriot's Days, as these are the first Mondays of our Winter and Spring vacation; it's better to only lose 4 days' pay instead of 5 days!

We get:
New Year's Day
MLK Day
President's Day
Memorial Day
July 4th
Labor Day
Columbus Day
Veteran's Day
Thanksgiving (2 days)
Christmas Eve (1/2 day)
Christmas
Birthday

And I get 21 days a year vacation leave and 12 sick leave We can carry over 30 days of vacation and build up to 270 days of sick leave
