Just wondering what other people does.

I usually give her $40 cash.

Wow, either you are very generous or I'm really cheap. I give the bus driver $10 in gift certificates to a local restaurant that she can get lunch at. I figure she can have two free lunches on us.

I usally give a $25 gift card but our bus driver is like the best in the world, she is so good with the kids and waits if you are running late, she watches DS10 get off the bus and into the house the one day I am late from picking up DS4. She is a doll!

Our neighborhood all pitches in money towards a gift card to a restaurant or store. Last year our neighborhood collected $100 for Charlestons for our bus driver. He is GREAT!!! We LOVE our bus driver. We have had him ever since we have moved to this neighborhood 4 years ago, and hope we have him for a long time. He is GREAT with the kids and is so friendly. When he picks my intermediate school DS up in the AM, it is dark but he beeps his horn at me to say hi!!! He usually gives the kids goody bags at the holidays as well. Even though our neighborhood pitches in for a gift card, I usually bake him some cookies as well. :goodvibes

Wow! I think all of these suggestions are great! I never would've thought to give anything more than some cookies to the driver, but then again, my DD is 2 and doesn't have a bus driver...I'm sure all these gifts are greatly appreciated!

gift card to Starbucks....usually $10.00 ($5.00 from us & $5.00 from our neighbor together).

Wowza, that's a lot! That's really generous of you though! :)

We do a $5 gift card with some candy.

I try to give the same amount to the person who gets my kids safely to and from school as I do to their teachers, afterall, without the bus driver I would be dealing with the traffic around the elementary school.

We use to have a really great bus driver that we loved so much! I use to buy her a gift. Last year I got her a cookie jar that was shapped like a big school bus. She loved it. We miss her so much and now have a crazy bus driver! He seams nice but not too personable and he was driving a little too fast and I had to say something to him about it. The kids all don't like him too much. I will probably still get him something and a gift card to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts seems like a great idea. I won't spend more than $10.

I got the bus driver a candle with one of those lamp shade topper things. Same thing DS is giving to his two teachers.

Didn't know what else to get them.

I give $10 gift cards.

Last year it was 7-11. The year before was Target. This year it will be Starbucks. I also thank them accordingly and give them a small goodie bag of candy.

Now I give it to them a few days before vacation. A few times the bus driver got sick and did not show up for work so I missed out until after the break. ugh lol

My son had the most wonderful bus driver (Karen) k-4th grade and we always got her a gift! She loved candles and Boyds Bears so we alternated the two yearly (Boyds Bear one year, Yankee Candle the next). DS always picked the BB, and helped pick the scent (Mom narrowed the choices)! :goodvibes She actually gave every kid on her bus a gift for Christmas, Valentines Day, and Easter! :) We also always got her a "last day of school" gift and card! When he went to Middle School in 5th grade, they started at a different time, and he got this (brand new CDL)crazy bus driver... went into a ditch in perfect weather, had RR crossing bar come down on bus as she tried to beat the train, had a "her fault" wreck with a parked vehicle... mom started driving then:woohoo: so no more presents were needed. My feelings were always that Karen was driving the most precious thing in the world to me, and did so safely two times daily, and without my having to worry, so a gift and card were well deserved!:thumbsup2

Some of you have much better bus drivers than we do! I ended up pulling ds off the bus and driving him myself, because ds kept having problems with other kids and the bus driver did absolutely nothing about it. So, no gift here...

I must be really cheap as well. i don't give anything to the bus driver or the teacher, or any other profession, with the exception of tipping waiters/waitresses. It has absolutely nothing to do with my impression of how good a job they do, or my opinion of whether or not they are deserving. I just choose to give my $$ to those without. While I am very greatful for the contribution that these people give to my family and to society as a whole, I just have given my $$ to charitable organizations instead. now, i'm wondering if i should change the way i allocate it. do you think that the kids whose families give gifts, etc., are treated differently than kids who don't? I don't want to offend any of you that give gifts, i'm just wondering if i should be doing so as well. i'm really torn about this. I don't want my children to be penalized in some way for not giving a gift, but I also think that if we start giving teacher/bus driver gifts, then the money would have to come from somewhere, and that might mean decreasing our charitable giving. this makes me feel sad.

Well I think you could do both, You could give a donation in their name. A couple of years I donated to a local food bank organization(Philabundance) in the preschool teachers names. They loved it. The director mentioned (although she probably shouldnt have) that they get so many candles, lotions, mugs etc that the teachers take a bunch to the local nursing home and regift them there.

So now I try to stick to gift cards or the donation thing. I mix it up every couple of years or so.

How does one do this? I usually write a check or give cash anonymously. Not sure how to give a donation in another person's name.
