Do you get your nails done or do yourself?

I do it myself. I figure the cost of a bottle of good nail polish gets me about 10 or 15 at-home manicures and pedicures, and it's 1/3 the cost of one salon treatment. Plus, the time savings is huge. I can't tell the difference between when I do it, or when I have someone else do it. And I HATE when they mess with my cuticles. It gives me the heebie jeebies.

I'm way too cheap to spend money on mani-pedis. Just seems like a complete waste of money to me.

:thumbsup2

I never look at people's finger or toenails, unless they have some garish design there, in which case my reaction is, "Ew". I keep mine manicured and neat, but I think paying to do that stuff to oneself is a complete waste of money.

I do my own manis but go to a salon for the pedis. I work with little kids & my hands take a beating. Any mani would be trashed within a few days. Pedis I can make last a lot longer. It's a little treat for me. I go to a place that has wine & margaritas available as well so it's VERY relaxing.

I get mine done. My fingernails are acrylic. Currently they're sparkly pink with white tips--very pretty. I am a nail biter/picker so if I want my nails to be long and look nice, acrylic is the way to go for me. I am way overdue for a fill, so I am going in today, and treating myself to a pedi while I'm there, too! There is nothing wrong with treating yourself to relaxation every now and then!

(My salon charges $23 for a fill. $35 is a little )

The salon for my toes. They look so much better than when I do them myself.

For my fingernails, my nails grow too fast for salon manicures. In about two days, I can see the nailbed line already. I'm fairly good with my fingernails so I will do them myself if I need a polish. I usually just wear them naturally. I have natural white tips so they look Frenched!

So, I get toes done as often as I need them at the salon, and my hands are done just when I need a good overhaul and feel like a bit of a pampering.

I do my own but would love to be able to get them done every week or so...just can't afford that :(

I do my own.

I've had a manicure and a pedicure once- not at the same time.

I do them myself. I treat them at least once a week that way it is not a huge mess to maintain them.

Lately, though, my nails have been peeling somewhat(I'm an intern in a hospital, so there's a lot of hand washing, as you can imagine...). Does anyone know of a good nail polish to strengthen nails?

I have acrylic nails that I get done and, in the summer, pedicures I get done every 2 weeks. In the winter, my pedicures are done maybe once a month or so.

I do the same. When I was promoted about 10 years ago I had them put on and loved them. My own nails break easily and the acryllics look so polished all the time.

My manicurist left the salon recently and I was so unhappy. I only went to this salon because of her. She has bought another salon over an hour away from my home so I am trying out a new place that opened.

I do my own. I rarely wear polish, so not a big deal at all to keep them trimmed and looking nice.

No use in having mine done professionally. I use a glass grinder almost daily and it ruins nails. I do my nails myself at the end of each day...that usually just consists of a good soak and filing. Polish would be ground off the very next morning so I no longer bother with it.

I hardly ever get my nails done. For some reason polish just flakes off them. If I have an event or vacation I will do the gel polish but that's only a couple times a year. My toes get done every two weeks march - October and once a month nov-February. It's my hour to myself with no kids husband etc.

I usually do my own nails and toenails. Once in a great while, I'll get a mani/pedi at the salon. I wear clear polish all of the time and when I'm in the mood, will add a coat or two of a pretty color polish.

I do them myself. I have nice nails, they aren't acrylic or anything else, just mine. I trim them back every 2-3 weeks and manicure them myself. right now I have bright red shimmery tips with nail art. I get compliments all the time and people ask me to do theirs as well, I say no because I don't have a license so I just do mine and my girls.

Gel manicure, every three weeks. That's about the only money I spend just "on myself".

In June, my regular nail tech's husband got a new duty posting (he's USMC) and she just *left* to go with him. Leaving my friend and I (we had appointments on the same day) with only three days to go to find a new nail tech before our regularly scheduled appointment times. Now, it wouldn't normally be a big deal to just wait a while longer, but my nails were looking really grown out and they were getting too long to be functional. Best Friend was leaving on vacation that weekend and really wanted to get hers done before she left.

We have now been through *3* different nail techs since then. Couldn't find one decent one in the lot - they all did terribly sub-par work. One tech did such a horrid job on my friends nails that they MOLDED - turned green around the edges. Finally, this last week, we tried out another new salon that had techs who knew what they were doing, and - HOORAY :goodvibes - my nails are pretty again.

I had my nails done once, when I was 14 because I had a coupon for a free manicure. It was nice, but I could never justify the cost of making it a regular thing. I've always liked painting my nails, but generally I don't make a big fuss over them. I do have the nail kit from Deep Sea Cosmetics, so sometimes I use that.

I just got a mini-pedi this morning. I love getting my nails done. I used to get acrylics when I worked at a jewelry store but I don't get them anymore. I get the shellac now and I love it. We are going on vacation next week and I wanted them done. I pretty much have them done for vacation, special events or when I just need a me day. I used to get a pedicure every two weeks but since I moved I hadn't found a place that I likes as much as my old spa. I went to a great place this morning so I may get back in the habit of getting them done on a regular basis. :cloud9:

I get pedicures a couple of times over the summer and before vacations because I like flowers or other designs on them. Other times I will do them myself. I never have manicures because I have a habit of picking at my nail polish so it isn't worth paying for something that I will just mess up in a couple of days anyway.
