do you fondue at home?

Every New Year's Eve we do fondue and play games with our kids. We do hot oil on the stove, where we can control the boil, but we've found that our kids don't really like the oil fondue.

You might want to try broth instead, like at the Melting Pot.

Any fondue with cream cheese? Hmmmm.....I need to look it up. I have some I need to use up.

I have 2 Cuisinart electric fondue pots. I love them.:lovestruc They can be put in the dishwasher. I bought mine at Bed, Bath and Beyond for probably around $30 each.

I bought the fondue pots after we went to Switzerland one summer. I expected that we would have fondue while we were in Switzerland, but no, fondue is a winter dish- not served in summer. Now I can have fondue whenever I want, and don't have to drive 20 miles to the nearest Melting Pot.

I too love to fondue!! I have two electric fondue pots and love to have fondue parties. I start with a cheese fondue with bread, carrots, granny smith apples, and cauliflower as dippers. I do a broth fondue, usually Coq au Vin from The Melting Pot cookbook. I have beef, chicken, shrimp, small red potatoes, brocolli, and mushrooms. I also try to do a couple of sauces. I do a chocolate peanutbutter fondue for dessert with rice crispy treats, strawberries, brownies, poundcake, nilla wafers, and marshmellows. It is a wonderful and fun time. It is a lot of work cutting everything up but usually I get it done the day before, except for the bread so everything is ready to go. Hmmmm.......maybe it's time for another fondue party!!!

We have fondued with our kids for over 20 years. Always for NYE, many times for birthdays or the kids would have their friends over for a night and called it fun do. Our latest was just last week at fort wilderness on our deck at our cabin for my birthday. It's a great way to prolong a meal and have great conversation. We usually only have 3-4 people per pot and each person uses 2 sticks. We use an oil, usually canola and use electric pots as they stay hot better. We cut up steak and chicken. We also cut up cubes of cheese and have raw whole mushrooms. The cheese and mushrooms we make a batter like a drakes mix or beer mix and dip them in right before we put them in the oil. Oh wow, but be careful as they melt fast (the cheese)
New fonduers get the fondue rules, the biggest of which is never, never put raw chicken near any of your cooked food or raw veggies or bread which is usually our side dishes.
We've done the chocolate a few times, but to be honest we're usually too full from our other fondue.
I know last year at christmas time target had electric ones for $20.00.
Last year was the first NYE we weren't with our girls. They live in Florida now with their husbands. Unknown to each of us we all fondued at our homes. Quite a tradition we started at least 24 years ago.

We only do the chocolate fondue once in a while if having some type of gathering.

I did chocolate fondue for a shower last year.. dipped apple slices, strawberries and pound cake.. yummy..

We fondue. :) We have one of those electric fondue pots that we got from Bed Bath & Beyond and it's awesome (nonstick too).
We learned how to make the cheese fondue from Melting Pot (the mix of cheddar and swiss made with beer) and go all out with meat fondue followed by different chocolate fondues. Sometimes we'll just do cheese and chocolate. (well, obviously, not together ;) )
