Hi

We went for the DVC tour while on vaction and had a wonderful guide.

We have recently sent in all the paperwork on an OKW resale contract because the price was so much less expensive.

Does anyone else have a weird feeling about talking to their guide.

Its strange but it almost feels like I was going behind their back by buying resale.

I wonder if they work on commission and will be disappoinged that we went the resale route the first time around????

Anyone else feel this way???

They do not work on commission, but do get bonuses and/or win incentive trips and the like based upon the quarterly on annual points they sell i am told...

I do feel a bit disloyal, however, Michelle has taken our additions in stride, and we've done add ons with her as well. I think she's a true professional, and doesn't take anything "personally" especially when it's not "personal."

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that feels this way. Rose is our guide and has been so excellent giving me information but I too found a better deal via resale and made my first purchase that way.

It was REALLY REALLY hard talking to Rose the first time and telling her about the resale and she obviously wasn't overjoyed.

That is the only part of the resale purchase that I HATE!

:confused3

Nope - I am buttering Tom (from the TimeshareStore) up over time so when we are ready to add on I get one of those special tote bags that they are offering.....I REALLY want one with Publix on one side I think *dreaming big* :earboy2:

Its about finances and needs. There might be times when I can't get what I want from a resale and we would go to Disney and vice versa. I am not crazy about my guide anyway, so maybe that is why.

Seeing as I cannot fathom being in the add-on place anywhere in teh near or distant futuer, I officially turn over my smilie assistance brownie points with Tom to you.

I would feel kind of guilty if my guide had done a lot of the leg work, but I don't see the big deal, especially if it was for a resort other than SSR.

lol With the baby coming and hubby being a house hubby, we aren't adding on THAT soon! (although there are a couple of small stripped contracts that seem like such a good deal on Tom's website right now..its hard to resist!)

Nope not at all. We thought our guide was just ok. She never sent any follow up information or called so she obviously wasn't that interested in our business.

No, not one bit. I don't owe her anything just because she was pleasant on my tour. I'm much more concerned about her responsiveness after the tour. Afterward, I called on what happened to be her day off, and she called me back that evening from home, which surprised me.

Later, I decided to buy resale, and that was the first indication I got that she was either poorly informed, or had a chip on her shoulder. She told me my contract would never get through ROFR because Disney had decided to ROFR everything they saw. She even told me they'd had a "big meeting" about it. I bought my original contract resale and, of course, it passed ROFR.

I later did an add-on through my guide, but was disappointed in that process. She was pretty responsive, and always pleasant, but didn't seem to understand all the nuances of the add-on incentive.

First, it took a heckuva long time to get the add-on done, and secondly, she was not aware of the ability to bank all of the 2004 points I wanted to buy. Because of the piddling around with the sale, the '04 points would have been virtually useless without banking, so I didn't get them. Later, I found out that numerous other buyers had been allowed to bank all of their points after normal banking deadlines...so I was not impressed.

The bottom line is the guides are sales people. You should not feel guilty if you prefer another product to their product.

I certainly won't feel guilty. The TSS consistently demonstrated a high level of customer service, and no hard sell at all.

My DVC guide provided a moderate amount of service and didn't have complete information, and when the time comes for an add on the recent changes at TSS for small contracts will make me lean in that direction.

The good initial purchase with TSS and excellent follow up leave me with no reason to go through DVC vs TSS at this point.

You know - come to think of it - Jamie was certainly cheerful and helpful every step of the way - and I agree - new closing costs make the add-on much more appealing via the always helpful TSS.

Guess the worst part of an add-on now is the WAITING for the right contract to come up with TSS to purchase!!!!! :Pinkbounc

Hah, our guide is the reason we bought resale! When we did the tour several years ago we had never even heard of DVC (and certainly not this board!) and as soon as we started asking questions...he shut us down. Literally picked up the printed material and said "I guess DVC isn't for you". I don't know if he was having a bad day or is just kind of a jerk. We have never heard from him again and don't really care to. Maybe he was just a figment of our imagination...

I thought of the guide as a salesman, not a broker or consultant or friend. I still see it that way. He was trying to get us to buy. He wasn't trying to figure out what was best for us. He was just showing us what DVC had to offer. He was good at his job.

We bought resale more than a year after our tour. We keep getting mailings with a guide's name. I think it's the same one who gave us the tour, but I would assume that's coincidence -- unless they somehow cross-reference names with people that have taken tours in the past.

I wouldn't feel comfortable calling that guide for advice unless I were ordering an add-on thru him.

It is the same person intentionally OneMoreTry. They keep track of such things and if your guide is still active when you do decide to buy (be it from Disney or a resale), that person becomes your guide.

I feel relieved that I was able to buy 4 seperate contracts through resale. My original Disney guide was very unresponsive, and didn't follow through well at all! I was ready to purchase 4 months before buying because I had wanted BCV or BWV. He kept trying to sell SSR to me! ( I would have been happy with that as well, but I had passed earlier on BCV and VWL points that my Disney guide said were available in the UY that I had wanted, then heard nothing for months) So, while I was planning on changing guides, I happened to read a thread on this Dis board about ROFR and resale. I tried it myself, and was hooked! Recently, I thought about buying more BCV points through Disney, but I'll try going through resale again 1st. Kristy and the gang were great through the TSS :goodvibes

Although my guide was extremely nice and very professional, she did not have the inventory that I wanted. OKW was sold out at the time and I had not other choice but to go resale to buy what I wanted.

Just like if I want to by a shirt and go to Home Depot.............they don't have what I want so I go elsewhere to get what I want.

I was talking with my guide and TSS at the same time. They both new that I was looking in both markets. Pat had an OKW contract with the points and price I wanted. Byron had BCV that I wanted. I have added on from Byron three times since the original contract and have done two additional deals with Pat (a third may be in the works).

I still easily recommend both of them.

Oh my I did not know this. We went on the tour in Oct last year, but since we had never heard of DVC before that we did not really know what to ask. :confused3 Since coming home I have been checking it out pretty thoroughly (especially this site) and found that we wanted OKW, not SSR (which is all he mentioned to us, but of course not knowing to ask) so absolutely no guilt about trying to get OKW (submitted this week).
I do have a question.... I have been checking out the threads that mentions guides names and have not heard of the one that gave us the tour, any body ever heard of Darren Greenwald (his card says "Senior Vacation Club Guide")? Just curious I have nothing to say about him either way he was pleasant enough so I don't think it would make a difference if he would become our guide or not (if our resale passes ROFR) :wizard: PLEASE PASS :wizard:

Maybe the guide you toured with, sold the very package that you bought, to the original owner.

It's like a big wheel that keeps on turning, a guide sells a package, the purchaser wants to sell, the guide can't sell it for them.

Thank goodness there are good people like you out there who are willing to purchase these DVC Resales!

We all hope this never happens, but YOU just may be in that same position one day and you will be praying someone comes along to take this package off your hands.

HAPPY "MAGICAL" VACATIONING!
Tom :wave2:

Same here. Would your guide be Betty P, by any chance?
