Do you ever splurge?

I know sometimes I just have to. Tonight we are having pizza for dinner. I only had 2 slices so I think I did well with that. I am also gonna have some wine and probably a handful of peanut M&Ms.

I have been so good lately.. and I have this HUGE craving. I know if I don't give in to my cravings (sensibly) every once in a while I feel like I am being deprived.

Tomorrow I am back on that treadmill with a vengence.. but for tonight.. just a lil splurge.

I probably do this about once every 2 weeks.

Does anyone else do this? Does it seem to help you stay on track or does it lead you to fall off for a while?

I do this too but it seems to be okay. I think the longer you fight a craving sometimes the stronger it gets!! If my family is having something like pizza and I want some, I try to offset it with salad and listen to my body to know when I am full so I don't over-indulge!!

I have pizza pretty much every Friday night for Family night. I got to goal last year eating it that way. I'm doing it again as I get back to goal. For me, I need to make this a lifestyle I can continue forever!

I usually go out for a nice lunch with some co-workers on a Friday. I'm usually stuffed and therefore have a light dinner. I really look forward to it and I'm sure that helps to keep me focused on my diet the rest of the week.

If my dh actually takes me to a movie, I have popcorn. If I'm at a niece or nephew's birthday, I'll have some ice cream. 2-3 times a year we go to a nice restaurant adn I may have dessert.

This usually keeps me from feeling deprived, so I don't go hog wild. I just need to see it as a time for a treat, as opposed to falling off the wagon and giving myself a license to eat.

What a coincidence! I splurged with pizza last night too. :flower: A treat once every two weeks is the same as what I've done in the past too. I've just recently rejoined WW (1-1/2 weeks ago), so I splurged a little earlier than I had planned. That's okay though.....I'm back on track this morning. :sunny:

That's the key, I think. Just making sure you're back on your program the very next day (or meal, if you prefer to look at it that way). When I've gone wrong in the past is when I let one splurge day turn into 2, and so on. When I have so many "treats" that it shows negative results on the scale, I tend to get down on myself, which leads to more splurging (comfort food). It can become an endless, vicious cycle.

I'm trying to end that cycle now by establishing many short- and longterm goals for myself. I have set small goals for myself each month, and as I complete them, I get to check them off my list. My final goal: to run in the WDW 1/2 marathon in 2007! :goodvibes I can't go overboard with the splurging if I want to make this goal a reality. :cheer2:

I splurge a bit, too! Actually, if you get Domino's thin crust cheese pizza with veggies, its not bad at all. I do Weight Watchers and 1 slice of a medium pizza is 3 points.

Even though I'm on a low carb program, I have pizza once a week and just eat the toppings off it. Our local pizza parlor really piles it high and it's delicious!

I don't think I'm one that can have the occasional indulgences. Once I get to goal I think I'll be able to work the occasional treats (real sugar/white flour products/potatos) back into my diet but we'll see. The thing I love about low carbing is the large amount of products available as substitutions. One of my all-time favorites is the strawberry low carb cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. I swear you cannot tell that it's low carb. Yummy.

I do feel you have to do what works for you so if an occasional indulgence helps you stay on program and not feel deprived, go for it!

Yeah..I HAVE to "cheat" every now and then. I remember once I was SO hard core on this diet. I wouldn't allow my self not even a bite of anything unhealthy. One day my Dad was eating a Big Mac and offered me half. For some reason I took it and OMG I couldn't stop eatting the big mac..fries...shake..etc. needless to say I put the weight back on. I've learned to allow myself a bite of things and once a week or so I splurge..but I find I can't eat as much as I use to . Last night we had Chicago Stuffed pizza (YUM). I had one slice and a spinich salad. I felt pretty good about that.

Ha HA!!! Are you secretly watching me or something???? Today was my weigh in and I lost .5 pounds...I had a big loss last week (3 pounds) and for some reason on my weigh in day I just feel like I can relax a bit...but the cheats I do now are NO WHERE NEAR the cheats I did when I was not in a losing frame of mine...

Here's my cheat...

Tuesday night I noticed there was only one Cadbury egg left (darnit no Reese Butter Eggs left...only the white chocolate...why even waste my taste buds!) and I secretly stashed that Cadbury egg in a quaint little corner in my pantry..I wanted to stay strong before my weigh in...and I had been doing low carb for two days to knock off any effects of the Cadbury egg I had on Easter...not to mention 5 other nibbles (an M&M here or there...but no more than 10)
I had no food in the house...my children have been going through that stomach bug and haven't been able to get out and grocery shop (dh works out of town)...so braved it this morning and tried to take them to Chik-Fil-A for breakfast...thought youngest dd was better...slept all night and didn't complain of belly..well we got there and I had a whole grain bagle with egg/cheese/chicken and the hash browns...now for someone doing 2 days almost no carb...that really feels like a CHEAT!!! :) I washed it down with a big cup of coffee...my first in probably 2 years....but it FELT great to eat a meal and not worry about carbs...I'm slimfasting this week to see if I can shock my body into losing 2 pounds.

But that sweet little Cadbury...ahhhhh..it's waiting for me...if I weren't so stuffed from that breakfast I'd enjoy it right now...but alas, it will have to wait until my belly has room...it also helps I'm wearing my tight jeans to remind me how GREAT it feels to fit into them! :) But after today...I've got 6 days to MOVE THAT SCALE...sometimes I can go 3 weeks with no cheats...sometimes that weigh in day is calling my name...but sadly, I can vividly remember dh and I splitting a pounder bag of M&M's over the course of a day or two! UGH!!!! Can you believe that! :)

It's all about perspective...some may think I obsess over that little Cadbury...but I've come along way and I'd rather be considered a little obsessive than put all that weight back on! :)

ITA with Melanie. I build a 'cheat' day into my week. We take the family for frozen custard every Sat. I have changed what I order...a small now instead of medium, vanilla with fruit instead of choc with Reese's or Snickers. About once a month, I do go for the hardcore choc.

Melanie's right...you've got to make eating right something you can live with or it'll never last.
