Do you drive or ride bikes in HH?

I know I should have asked this before, but...with bike riding so popular, will we be out of place if we drive a car? Is it a nightmare to drive in HH? Is it too unreasonable to think we would ride bikes to/from dinner places with a 5 and 8 yr. old? We are a group of 3 families and I am just trying to get a feel for how spread out things are. We'd hate to get somewhere and have one of the kids start moaning that they are too tired to ride back:headache: . Then what do we do?:confused3

Also, do you rent bikes or bring your own? We have 2 teenagers who would use bikes like ours and it looks like a rental would cost us $200 ($50 each) for the week. I'd like to do it, but I'm just not sure we'd get our monies worth, depending on distances. What do you prefer to do?

Thanks again!

We were there the week between Christmas and New Year's and we did both. We drove to dinner and rode bikes to beach and around property. There are some dinner choices close enough to ride. Traffic was tough some of the time, not always. You can rent bikes. We had 4 for the length of our say and it was about 70.00 dollars. Have a good trip:goodvibes

You can rent bikes for your length of stay, 25.00 each for the first two people and 10.00 a person after that. There were six of us and the total was 90.00 for the six of us for the whole stay. There are alot of restaurants with in walking or biking distance, and nice paths to ride on, however there are also alot of restaurants further out. Driving is really not that bad, one main road that goes everywhere. It can be busy though. Enjoy your stay.

Hi,
Where did you rent the bikes? The DVC member page shows the discounted rental as $50/each for the length of stay.

We drove everywhere. Our youngest was too little to ride her own bike and we have gone in August and it's just too hot to ride everywhere. You can also walk to several restaurants.

We went to the pool are (forget what it was called) and they were out, but they sent us to a partner that honors HHI price. They were 2 for $50.00 and 10.00 for each additional we had 4 which was 70.00 plus tax for the entire stay. If you have to use the partner they even deliver them to your villa with chain locks and they came back and got them on our check out day. It was very nice and so much easier than taking bikes. :goodvibes

Drive, the traffic is no different from anywhere else. Folks on bikes are on bike paths not the roads. I can't imagine going out to dinner on bikes.

I take it these were the bikes without gears? I saw 'beach bikes' advertised for $27/each delivered, but thought we might need the extra help with having gears. :confused3 Never thought something like this would be SO complicated!:teacher:

Some of the rental bikes may not be ridden on the beach per the rental contracts. (Saltwater and sand can eat up a bike pretty quickly)

If you want to ride on the beach be sure it's allowed for the bike you want to rent.

That's interesting to know. I'm always learning new things here on the DIS boards! Last time one of our most enjoyable times was riding bikes on the beach one day with the dolphins right off-shore.

I wouldn't have thought of some bike companies not letting us ride on the beach. Thanks for the info!
