Do You Do This...?

I bring along a small bottle of clorox to clean out the jacuzzi tub in the villa, lysol wipes to clean the surfaces in the DVC villa, and a can of lysol that I spray all around the villa. We also use hand sanitizer religiously in the parks. You can never be too careful, there could have been someone in the villa before us that was very sick! Knock on wood, we haven't gotten sick at Disney so far.

Do you do this at the grocery store or bank or at work? Because you are FAR more likely to get sick at your office or from a grocery cart handle than from anything you encounter on vacation.

My answer is no, I don't do this. Also, I'm surprised that you are allowed to board with Lysol aerosol. It is not permitted, so I guess you are "lucky" that TSA missed it. I personally would be very unhappy if someone sprayed Lysol anywhere near me as it usually triggers a headache for me.

I bring clorox wipes to wipe down the TV remote, etc. Target sells clorox wipes in a travel pack (similar to wet ones)--it is in the travel size products section of the store ;)

No. I do check for bedbugs and for general cleanliness and we wash our hands several times a day with regular old soap, especially before eating, after using the restroom and at break times. Also if someone has the sniffles I insist on washing hands after nose blowing. I will usually, but not always, bring tissues and a handwipe or two in case someone touches something really yucky or slimy. However, if someone in the family had a condition causing a compromised immune system I would bring clorox wipes for hard surfaces and handwipes for after touching ride handles. I agree with pp that if someone sprayed an aerosol through rooms I was staying in I would be upset b/c I am very allergic.

Whenever I travel, to WDW or anywhere else I bring clorox wipes. But then again I bring them everywhere. And antibacterial wet ones, always. In the room, I don't go crazy I just clean the remote and door handle, I don't do the phone because the only one who uses it is DH:rotfl:

What I do get crazy about are tables at the cs restaurants and the the public restrooms. I am the insane woman who is always wiping off the eating surfaces and sometimes seats before I let my family sit and who is using a wipe on my hands after I wash them in the public restrooms.

As far as sanitizer gel, I have no faith in it. As with any other sort of cleaning, I don't believe that putting the cleanser on works if I don't use something to wipe the germs and gel away.

This is pretty much how DH and I roll. I would implore people to utilize 'regular old soap' whenever possible, as antibacterial soap can increase the resistancy of the germ against the antibacterial ingredient. This is how drug resistant strains are created, and could make our antibacterial soap less useful in the future. If I can't get to a sink with good ol soap, you betcha we'll pull out the antibacterial. I also use lysol or clorox on 'yucky' surfaces in the room, ie the toilet handle, faucet handles, door handle, and remote. As well as on a public surface (such as a picnic table) that we are about to eat on. Also, be aware that most antibacterial wipes/gels will not kill a virus (ie the flu virus). They have a protein coating that makes them harder to 'kill', and are not even technically "alive", they must have a host cell, inside your body, to reproduce. Ok, off the soapbox. One less sick person is one less way for me to get sick.;)

I get sick one way or another on just about every trip. So, I have started doing the cleaning routine of wiping down lightwitchs, handles, remote etc. I was pictured doing my cleaning routine in my Yacht Club trip report! Obsessive? Maybe, but I'm darn sick of getting sick on every trip! I figure a little wiping down here and there, and carrying a small hand sanitizer when in the parks, along with trying my best to avoid touching handrails might just help a little.

Yes- we bring clorox wipes and spend our first 30 mins in the room wiping every hard surface we can. DH, DD and myself wipe everthing we can reach. Not sure if it keep us any healthier but it makes us all feel better to know our room is clean.

We use hand sanitizer in the parks when we cannot wash our hands.

I do wipe down all those surfaces with lysol wipes. Same with the plane and the grocery cart handle. I work with kids so I wash my hands alot too. I do not use hand sanitizer. I don't care if people look at me strange or think I am a germaphobe. I would rather be healthy.

As I've said before, I hope a germaphobe has been in the room right before me. Personnally, I grew up on the five-second rule, if it fell on the ground and you get it in the first five seconds, you are good to go.

Same here. :thumbsup2 I very seldom get sick in general, and we've only had one round of illness at Disney that I'm pretty sure DS brought with us - he got sick about 36 hours into the trip and I was the only other one who caught it, probably because I was the one helping him get cleaned up and cleaning up the bathroom after his late night "protein spill".

Yes, I have always done this!!! I also clean the tub; just a little pet peeve of mine. I know in the end if we are going to get sick, we are going to get sick no matter what I do but I feel better knowing I tried my best not to.
DH also has a thing about the bed spreads: first thing he does it take them off and put them aside. God forbid the kids sit on them, his head will explode:scared1:. Can you say germ-a-phobe:confused3

I clean most surfaces at any hotel. I used to use tons of Lysol in my home when I had a roommate. She was always sick and I didn't want what she had. So I sprayed pretty much everything she'd touch when she wasn't here.

So do I and I make sure to do so when we first arrive and before we unpack. I also spray the room with Lysol as well:rolleyes1

No way. I glance around the room for general cleanliness, but I'm in Disney to play, not to clean. In 13 trips, I've only ever gotten sick once, and I know exactly where it came from: standing behind hacking people in lines that did not know how to cover their mouths. I was literally being hacked on. So when I caught that, the source was a no-brainer.

I don't do any of those things. I haven't bought into the whole "hand-wash-use-sanitizer" thing that has gripped our nation for the past few years. And the last time I had even the sniffles was about 15 years ago. I travel to Disney World frequently and have never been sick while there or anywhere else.

Add me to your family too. We are a frequent WDW visitors and have never done this nor ever gotten sick (we fly). Same for our kids and their kids. I used public transportation in and out of Wash. DC for most of my adult life and I held on to the poles on the subway and the handrail on the stairs.

I'm pretty much with you. I wash my hands frequently, but I'm not anywhere near germaphobic. About the only time I get freaky about germs is after I use the ladies room...I never touch the door handle as I leave. :)

I actually do carry sanitizer around with me because i'm around kids, and am always in a place where hundreds of other people have been that day.

We never do it.

The way I see it, as soon as you leave your room than what? It's as bad as or worse than what is in your room. Hand rails, elevator buttons, door knobs, etc, etc.

Wash your hands frequently; especially before eating. Keep your fingers away from your eyes and nose, a quick way to transfer cold and flu viruses to your self (from what I understand).

If you do it to your room you should be spaying down everything in your path as soon as you leave it. JMHO
