Do you consider real Christmas trees a fire hazard?

Note to self: Never live in an HOA community. I don't think I could handle people telling me what I can and can't do on MY property that I pay mortgage/taxes for! ;)

:thumbsup2 I TOTALLY agree with you!!!!!!

I wish we could have a real tree, but DH would never. He convinced that a real tree gets sap everywhere. I try to explain to him that other people have real trees, and don't have this "sap issue" but he just wont listen. Anyone know of a nice pine scented spray??

Bath and Body Works has a really good candle this year, Slaken & Co's Fresh balsam (not that a candle isn't a fire hazard :lmao:). It is the best one I have ever found and it smells EXACTLY like a pine tree.

The Villages is probably the largest HOA community in the country, but also probably has the smallest list of rules. There are no rules for inside your home and the only restriction for holiday decorations outside is that they can only stay up for 30 days. That seems pretty fair to me.

If you want a pine scent with "staying power", go to your local craft store and buy the pine scented oil - which comes in a very small bottle.. Put some on a cotton ball or two and tuck it down in the base of your tree stand.. Replace as necessary..:goodvibes

I'll do it!!! Last year I bought a real wreath for $24.99 for the dining room table to bring in the scent. It didn't work. It smelled nice for about 10 minutes, then it was gone.

Thanks for the tip!

I received a letter from a friend today in another state who lives in a gated HOA type community.. She was discussing the various Christmas trees she will be putting up in several of the rooms in her home and happened to mention that "real" Christmas trees are banned there because they're considered a fire hazard..

Anyone else life in a gated and/or HOA community where real Christmas trees are banned?

She must live in an Assisted living type home-no way a HOA could tell you what to put INSIDE your house!

i have a great 9 ft prelit tree...it is sooo pretty. I got some pine spray from yankee candle (2 for 10) it smells so good..just like a tree and I also use the pine tarts at this time of year....

If not watered properly and taken care of a real Christmas tree can be a fire hazard. We got a fake tree last year due to allergies and the fact that we like to have the tree up for almost a month.

My condo association has some pretty weird rules (like - you can't put any signs in your windows.. not just political signs, but even 'for sale' signs) but no rules about Christmas trees. We still have a fake one though, I'm not a big fan of cutting down a tree just to use it for Christmas. We just keep pine scented candles and whatnot around the holidays and it smells just like a real tree. :thumbsup2
