Do you come from a Military family?

My eldest brother is in the Navy ( reserves now) my youngest brother was in the coast Guard, my dad was a Captain in both the US and Canadian Air Force ( the only chaplain to hold that position in both countries ) my Grandfather was a Marine in the honour guard at the White House during WW2 . My other Grandpa was injured in the South Pacific during WW2 and I know there are many many more.

I never really considered myself from a "military family" until I started going through the geneaology stuff and adding it into the current family that I know of. Its really quite something to be proud of I think!

So how about you? Do you come from a "Military Family" ?

Yes. My Father was in the USMC from 1952 to 1956, got out and almost immediately reenlisted in the Air Force. He retired in 1982. His Brother was in the Army from 1960 to 1985, retired and has lived in Germany ever since. My Step Father was in the Navy from 1944-46, his son was in the Navy during the mid 70s and his two Grandsons are in the Navy and the USMC, One stationed here in Texas right now, and the other in Iraq. I was in the Army from 1982-85, and in the IRR (usually incorrectly called the "inactive reserve") from 1985-90, but unlike a lot of people who don't do anything during their IRR time, I went to a bunch of schools and ATs (summer camps). I also spent three years as a volunteer with our local JROTC program, and attended a few drills with a local Guard unit (a friend was a member of the unit). One of my brothers was in the Army from 1987 to 1989, then did a couple of years in the Guard.

my husband served in the early 70s.....navy. His dad was career army.

Absolutely! My grandfather is a veteran of three wars. Dad served in Vietnam. I have cousins in special forces now. I have only one close male relative who has not served. My brother would've been a Marine, if his vision were good enough. Even some of my female cousins have served. We have enormous respect and admiration for the Armed Forces in my family.

My Dad was in the Air Force for 9 years. My first husband retired in the Army and we were married for 12 years. I have lived where I am in Montana for the last 19 years and this is the longest I have lived ANYWHERE in my entire life!

I grew up with my father being in the AF...saw the world, but hated moving around all the time...b/c of that I REFUSE to date anyone in the military. Don't want to put my kids through that.

My Dad was in the Air Force, my 1 grandfather was in the Army, served in Europe during WWII, saw way too much "action" and never spoke of the events. My other grandfather served in the Coast Guard. My great step grandfather served in the Army and lost an arm during WWI.

On DH's side- His grandfather served in the Army during WWII and his step dad & brother were members of the USMC reserves.

DH is a former Marine who served in the first Gulf War.

My Dad was in the Air Force and many of my uncles, best friends, inlaws, cousins, nephews and nieces were and are serving in various branches of the armed services.

My dad just retired from the Air Force, (was in reserves) for over 20 years.

My sister is in Army (I think), and is in the Army Reserves.
Her fiance is in the Army as well

My uncle was in the Army
My other uncle was in the Navy.

My mom works on the base, for some commander of some sort.

My Dad, brothers, and DH all served in the Military, but they never made it their careers.

My father was a career man in the Navy with two tours in Vietnam. Was active duty here in the States when he died in a motorcycle crash over 30 years ago.

I didn't, but my children do!

My grandfather was drafted in WW2; he did his time then got out. My dad was 4F during Vietnam, so when I joined the military my parents thought I had grown a third head! Met and married DH in the military (we are both still in; DH is full time, I am part time). So DDs' are military brats and we are getting ready to make what we hope is our last move!

Yes, my family has had military members dating back to the original American Epic--the Revolutionary War and has had members in service in every one since. And like many other families we had members on both sides of the War Between the States. One of my ancestors died in Andersonville.

My grandfather had to get permission/authorization to enlist in WWII because his civilan job was in a tire factory and that was considered "vital" to the war effort.

My dad was career Army with two tours in 'Nam.

My brother did a his tour in the Navy.

DH just retired after 23 years in the Coast Guard We had such fun over the years and our kids did great with all the moving. The CG is such a small service that no matter where we moved, we knew somebody already

Both our dads were in during WW2 and my brother during Vietnam.

I am prior AF, husband is active duty Army w/the 4th ID (oh yeah we got him!!!), my mother did a few years in the Army, stepfather is still active Army, aunt is active Army Veternarian in Eygpt, her hubby is retired Special Forces, there Dad (step-granddaddy) is retired Army, and cousin is currently in West Point, My father was in during Vietnam. Our daughter wants to be a military lawyer!
