Do you clean your room?

I'm so glad to see this. I bring Clorox Clean Up with me when I travel. I know my house is probably germier than the hotel room, but those are my germs in my house. I don't know who was in the room before me! I spray the bathroom, the remote, door handles, light switches. I figure if I'm going to be living in a hotel room for a while, I might as well try to make it as clean as I can. I say all this, and my oldest son just sneezed everywhere and wiped his nose with his hand. :sad2: Well, at least I can still try to keep things clean-ish!

I use Clorox wipes, don't forget the door handles and especially the phone and the remote. The phones are usually nasty:scared1:

Nope. I guess because I'm thinking, well I'm going to wipe this door handle and then I'm going to go to a park and put my finger on the scan thingy where thousands of people who just picked their nose or worse have put their finger before me. I'm going to spend the day sitting on seats where thousands of butts have been before mine. Touch railings that have been touched by thousands of hands, some of which have just changed a diaper. You get the idea.

I don't see the point. The thing that does make me sick is the air conditioned air on the 9 1/2 hour flight to Orlando and there's nothing I can do about that.

My big thing is;

Keeping my hands washed and away from my mouth, nose and eyes.

I always wash my hands throughly before eating, and when done washing, save a piece of papertowel to grab the handle to open the bathroom door.

Sometimes we feel particularly grimy after a ride, so we bring the picnic size of "Moist Towelettes" along to wipe our hands on.

You can wipe down the room all you want, but not practicing good hygiene and keeping your hands away from your mouth, nose and mouth is sheer folly.

Purell hand sanitizer works great too!

It's what the politicians use while shaking thousands of hands. Seriously, look in Barak Obamas or John McCains pocket and you'll find a small travel size of Purell -

I guess you could call this hand to hand combat LOL

Btw, I always imagine the paper masks people wear on airplanes are more to remind you not to touch your face than actually having any value against airborne disease.

Just my 2 cents!

I usually do not clean the room, but I think this trip will be different. I'm going to get the lysol wipes and wipe down all the surfaces in the bathroom when we get there. I just want to enjoy our trip so I'm going to be a little extra careful.

Ditto. I usually don't clean the room, but I will this time. I always bring my own pillow everywhere I go, but that's just because of how I sleep with it vs. other pillows (neck problems). I think I've seen travel pillow covers somewhere, but I've never seriously considered using them.

I didn't clean anything when I was there last year, I was just careful not to walk around barefoot on the carpet (go ahead and laugh, I don't know why I do that, it's from vacations with my family, my father was obesessive about us having something on our feet and not touching the carpet :rotfl:). I did get a little cold my first couple days there, but I'm thinking that was more from the plane than the room. This year I'm going to probably bring lysol wipes and a bottle of lysol to quickly wipe down and spray the room, but I'm not going to go crazy! ;)

I didn't clean anything last year and will do the same this year. I should wear shoes more often. If I had done that when moving my bedroom furniture I wouldn't now have another broken toe!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:lmao:

Boy am I getting some stick from my mother over that one!!!!!!!!!!! If you are wondering how I did it I dropped a bookcase on the foot because I forgot to bring my toe tectors home (we get a new pair every year and take the old ones home)

:rotfl2:

For those of you who wipe down the surfaces of the bathroom and sink, do you do this everyday? The reason I am asking is because when the maid cleans the room the next day, you are in the same situation (germ wise) as you were when first checking into the room. I do clean the remote control, light switches, and telephone. We also use hand santizers in the parks, and try to keep the kids from touching their faces, which is very hard to do with little ones. :)

Due to an autoimmune issue we've always taken Lysol (now wipes) and wipe everything anyone would/could have touched. We wipe the remote, then put it in a baggie. We carry wipes with us and wipe the table and hands before eating. None of this takes more than a minute or so, so it is not time consuming.

We take along one of the small Lysol sprays and spray everything in the bathroom.

Our family has never gotten sick during or immediately after a Disney resort stay.

If anyone wants to make fun, that's fine. But our health is most important and this works for us. :)

Have fun and say well!!
p.s. Good idea about cheap pillows, but would that take up a lot of packing space for those who fly?)

I simply order them from Walmart (real cheap ones) and have them sent directly to my disney resort about a week before I leave. It does not cost that much.

We do travel with our own pillows to WDW but 99% of the time we drive. My issue is allergies, so I have to incase the pillows in allergy proof covers. I have a set that I use when we travel (buy king size so they fit all pillow sizes) and a spare set of pillow cases (also king).

This may be a solution instead of shipping pillows to the resort and then leaving them behind.

***I also love the idea of putting the remote in a ziploc bag!!!

Yep, we keep the little Lysol spray or wipes in the bathroom and wipe or spray when we get back the room....we also wipe or spray the door knobs and light switches again. Can only do so much and it is harder with little ones - we just keep some natural/non-toxic baby wipes for hands/face for during the day.

Years ago, before we had an autoimmune issue in the family, we never did anything and no one ever got sick then either...but today, it seems to be more viruses floating around in general, so we extra careful - but not fanatical - even tho it sounds that way. :rotfl:

I've been traveling for years for my job, so nothing that I havent done forever.

I Spray the bathroom, all fixtures, the sinks, door knobs light switches, the remote and the phone with Lysol. I also put the remote in a zip lock bag, (that one I learned here on the boards). I always have wipes for everything else.

I always check for bedbugs before I let my family or luggage in the room, ( learned that here also). I spray the bedspreads and blankets with lysol, and no one sits on the floor or the bedspreads.

Im really not a germaphob :confused3 just want to be sure my family is safe as I can make them from germs in the room. I saw a tv show one time about hotel rooms that scared the heck out of me. ;)

My DS and DH are used to me giving them Purel every two minutes any way so that should take care of us in the parks.

OMG I sound like a nut !!!

In the past? No, never.

This time?
I'll take the small bottle of Lysol spray and buy a package of anti-bacterial wipes to wipe down door handles, phone, remote, etc.

Only because we'll have our 5 month old with us and I'd really like to avoid him getting sick if I can.
I'm not going to be obesessive or anything.. but a quick wipedown will make me feel better.

Kiddo will always be sleeping in the Disney provided Pack-N-Play which I'll definitely be spraying/wiping down!!

I do the same as most posters have said...quick wipe down of all surfaces.

I never really liked the idea of sleeping on pillows that strangers have used...a pillowcase doesn't keep germs off the pillows. This time I think I'll pack inexpensive pillows and leave them behind. Then I'll have room in our suitcases for souvenirs! :woohoo:

we never let any housekeepers in anymore, in any resort we stay in... after that hidden video went around (last year???) of nasty housekeeping habits of maids in hotels. Was it the contemporary... the maid blew her nose in the hand towel she was using to wipe the bathroom down, then right after blowing her nose in the hand towel, she wiped the glass with the hand towel. :faint:

i wipe down the room right when we enter w/ lysol wipes. with both kids and dh wiping everything down also, it takes us about 1 - 2 minutes to do everything. yes, we can catch things outside our room, but it's just nasty to me to think about germs being in "my" room. I don't think of the public spaces the same way I do my hotel room.

I always travel with my pillow! AND it's part of my carryon luggage! I usually start w/ it rolled tightly and tied, but often will use it during a flight.
My sisters all do the same as well. It's always been a comfort thing, but nowadays I also recognize there's a bit of health bonus as well.

If you really wanted to bring your own pillows, you might want to put them in Space Bags. With the advent of airlines charging for the 1st checked bag, I will be using them regardless.
