Do you carry a purse on the cruise?

When we go on vacation, I usually leave my purse at home and pack things in a Rick Steve's backpack. My husband and I both carry one. They are small but have compartments for all the things I bring on a trip--camera, water, book, wallet, etc. Would that look tacky, especially in the dining rooms?

Nope - I pack everything I need into my camera bag. I have two - one that looks like a backpack and another that actually looks like a nice purse.

I have a small crossbody purse I take...same kind I tour WDW with.

You really don't need all that stuff in the dining room -- just take your room key card. Unless you're planning to take your camera, but even then you wouldn't need a backpack.

On vacations I don't take a purse either -- just a snack-size ziplock bag that goes in my carry-on bag.

crossbody in the Parks, swim safe on the ship (holds my room key), take a little cocktail bag at night for dinner, swim safe goes in it. When I go ashore, swim safe is around my neck, under my clothes, crossbody carrying camera, etc.

I use a small cross-body purse in the dining room and sometimes around the ship. And that is only because I want something to keep my camera in.

I don't take a full wallet or anything, just a small change purse, sunscreen, reading glasses and camera. One thing I know for sure is never to be without a camera (those unexpected run-ins with characters, etc can pop up anytime).

use my pool tote during the day for camera, magazine, coverup etc...at night I use a wristlet to keep my camera and room key.

I was concerned about this, too, and finally decided to leave the purse at home. We kept everything we needed in a backpack to go on excursions, but never carried anything on the ship. Seriously, I'd just have my room key and chapstick. DH had room key and camera in his (bigger) pockets. Your room is only a few minutes away no matter where you are (okay, at least on the Magic). I always felt like I was missing something, but we never needed anything more than that and it was SO freeing!

As a disclaimer, we have no kids, so I didn't have all those little extras that moms tend to have.

Stopped using a purse on Disney vacations too. On the ship I need my room key, reading glasses (grrrr......), and perhaps my camera. I use a lanyard for card and glasses, and carry my camera.

I'm with those that only carry a small cocktail purse on the ship (when going to the dining room) so that I can carry my camera, and my reading glasses for the menu. It's nice to not have to shlep anything more than that around. I can always go back to my room if I need anything else.

I think a backpack would just get in the way. You'd have to shove it under the table, because there wouldn't be a lot of room between tables to sling it over the back of your seat

I just stick some kleenex, my room key and a lipstick either in my pockets or in a small wallet bag. If I bring my camera, I just carry it. I never bring a purse or backpack to the dining rooms as I don't need that much for that short time.

Okay, sound like I need to re-think what I'm bringing! I will feel naked without my backpack on trips, but I guess I'm not used to having my room so close by with easy access. I do not have a compact camera, so I will either have to carry it separately in its bag along with a little purse with my small items.

I'll still pack my backpack for going ashore, though!

Carry a purse? On cruise - no. Lanyard [made a nice macrame one] and KTTW card.

WDW - fanny pack.

At WDW, I take a string backpack.

On DCL cruises, I have my camera and that's it. Key card goes in the pocket along with pins for some pin trading. That's it. Really don't need anything else.

Absolutely no need for cash or credit cards around the ship. Why risk losing them? Meds? Again, why risk losing them? Book? You could carry it all around with you, but if you decide you want to read, you can always just go grab your book from your room.

As for your actual question, it will not look tacky in the main dining rooms.

I am planning to use a cross body bag, the same small-ish one I use at Disneyland. With kids in the club, I think I'll want to carry a wave phone. Even if that will fit comfortably in DH's packet, I'll still want my camera, chapstick, KTTW card, sunglasses, etc.

I never thought of not carrying my purse:confused3 This will be Disney cruise number 10 and it honestly never occurred to me. Sunscreen, Sunglasses, navigator, reading glasses, lip gloss, brush, hairtie, tissues. I usually end up carrying everything for the DH too. camera, book, always a pen, etc.... We will have 2 young people with us this trip as well and I will be carrying one of the phones provided in our stateroom.
(I guess I'm ready for "Let's Make a Deal".) :rotfl:
On the other hand I never carry anything when we visit the parks. I stick my DL in my pocket along with a CC and thats it.

I guess I'm still in "mom" mode--when we go to the parks I have the backpack with all the things that anyone in the family would need--even though they are teenagers now. It was sure hard to give up the stroller way back when--boy, the things we could pack away in the bottom basket!

My purse is the same way--large and in-charge ;). I've never carried a little cross-bag in my life! I'm still debating on the issue--thanks for the feedback--keep it coming! :flower3:

I have to carry medication with me at all times, so I need something to carry that. Otherwise, you don't need to carry anything on the ship except your KTTW card and maybe a camera! Everything else will be nearby - toilets/powder rooms with tissues, hand wipes everywhere, snacks everywhere - and if you can't find something, your stateroom is less than 5 minutes away from wherever you are. Enjoy the freedom! :)

I have to have a purse as I have to carry medication with me at all times. It was a good excuse to go buy a new purse though. Lol

I just got off the dream today and used a coach wristlett to carry my KTTW card, camera and wave phone. At the pool just put my KTTW card in either sons or husbands pocket. Our room was forward on Deck 10 so could just easily run downstairs if I needed anything
