Do you care what people think???

So all of the California Grill posts got me to thinking......I probably wouldn't have taken all of those photos because I would be thinking that the other guests thought that I was crazy!!! There have been many times that I didn't get a shot because I didn't want to get in people's way or cared what they thought.

So how many of you actually care what people think while you are getting that 'great' shot????

I would never "get in someones way" to get a shot. But if I arrive early enough to get the place I want to be to be able to get the shot that I want, I really don't care if some choses to get behind me and is put out by my being there. I got there first. This has happened many times at parades where I steak out my spot and then in the last few minutes people try to crowd you out of it.

Usually a quick, I have been waiting here for an hour or 2 will make them move back. And I have never had a problem getting anywhere early enough to get whatever place I want, if I want it badly enough.

I care what people think in the sense that I don't want to be a nuissance. I try to avoid being disuptive or disturbing when taking pictures. As to whether they think I'm odd, that doesn't concern me.

1 - I am pretty well beyond what people think of me, as long as I do not present a hazard or a nuisance to them.

2 - I *am* crazy, at least by some standards (taking over 1000 photos a day is not considered normal, at least not outside of this group).

3 - Food photography is a high paying occupation, may as well practice!

4 - I learned a lot of social skills from my cats, if someone tries to nudge you out of your spot, hiss at them.

This made me spit my iced tea on my laptop! Living in a house with 2 dogs and five cats.... I know that behavior well (not to mention DD who wants to be a cat!!!)

I take pics of food and odd things all the time. I've taken to this and taking photos of merchandise at WDW so I can share with all my non local Disney friends her on the DISboard!!!!

DD thinks I'm crazy some times - but I'm going to try HISSING at her from now on!

I really don't care what people think when I'm taking pictures of my food or odd things in the parks. I paid my money to be there like everyone else, and as long as I'm behaving, I don't see anything wrong with taking pictures.

P.S. I'm making a note about the 'hissing' thing, too! I'll have to do that the next time someone gets in my way!

I see nothing wrong with getting the shot you want without bothering someone too much.

Of course, if you're setting up your three point off camera lighting and camera on a tripod as they serve dinner it might make things a bit "tense"
More than likely it's the other way around. The photog is waiting for everybody else to move or change position to get the shot we want. Although most folks are very understanding about not walking in the line of the shot.

i think i embarrass easily and don't have a rhino hide so yeah i would feel odd to say the least...i took one quick food snap on vacation and that was it...probably if i had a James Bond ( or Austin Powers, hey baby?) spy type camera rather than a big dslr it might be easier.

i try to set it up and move on as quickly as i can

i was at the zoo once and these 2 men kept talking about my camera ( nicely not mean) and i kept thinking "if only they saw the outcome 1/2 the time" although that is improving in one millimeter increments at a time

Taking photos at any opportunity, and learning social skills from your cats is not always without drawbacks. When I am taking a photograph and DW thinks I shouldn't, guess who gets hissed at?

I took pictures of my food at Le Cellier in June. We were eating there for our anniversary. I even took a picture of our server with the chocolate cake and the plate that had "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate on it. The family in the next booth looked at us weird but I did not care since I doubted I would ever see them again. Now I do try not to get step into anybody else's view of sites. I do make sure that I have "staked" my place for a parade. I generally stand behind a garbage can and prop up my camera on it. A few times I have had parents who pressed in to ask if I could crouch down so there kids could see. I have been very nice and said Sorry, I have been here for X amount of time so I could take pictures. Generally the parents understand.

I guess if the restaurant had low light and a flash was going off every 5 minutes, that might get a little annoying.

I normally worry about my friends being annoyed that I'm always stoping to take multiple pictures of stuff. Hurry up!

I feel the same way as most everyone here. As long as I'm not blocking up traffic for long periods of time, or flashing everyone in the eyes with the flash I don't give a flying hoot what *anyone* thinks. Ya'll can just keep moving out of my shot!

There's a lot of talk about people's reactions in the "food porn" thread on the Restaurants forum. There's almost 5,000 messages, so it'll take you a while to get through it.

I tried to take a couple dark indoor photos while dining out a few nights ago, I had my Clamperpod clamped onto the table, with a mini Gitzo ball head on it attached to my camera. Unfortunately the shots didn't turn out very well, I need to do some more experimenting. But the concept worked well. A tabletop tripod would probably work well for food photos, allowing you to not use the flash. Food is a good low-light subject because it'll just sit there. If it's moving - send it back!
