Do you ring and cancel your PS if you change your mind, or if you just cant make it?
Or would you just not turn up?
I cancelled mine when we changed our minds, the lady on the other end was very grateful we'd phoned, but is it really necessary?
Just wonderin';)

DW and I always cancel ours. We feel it's only fair to the other guests. I know I hate when I can't get the PS I want because the resturant is booked. But that's just my opinion.

We always try to cancel so others can have an opportunity! It just is common courtesy, also WDW does keep track in database so future ressies might be "impacted". WDW is rightfully cracking down on all types of reservations due to multiple bookings by same party that go unused.

We try to cancel as well. Usually about 3 days into the trip we know if we need to cancel/change so we call Dining and take care of that.

Nesessary? No, but greatly appreciated.
There are a lot of times that duplicated priorities are very confusing to the seating staff. If you cancel well in advance >24 hours you should call CRO to cancel. On short notice I would suggest you call the podium directly.

If your PS is one where they took a deposit on your CC (CRT comes instantly to mind) and you'd like your deposit back, then yes, cancelling ahead of your cancellation policy is necessary. But even if no deposit is involved, I think cancelling is the courteous thing to do for any place, but especially for character meals.
BTW ~ I don't know if they would do it for a meal, but when I got very sick (nothing to do with WDW) at Christmas a couple of years ago, they refunded my "Dolphins in Depth" tour the day of when the policy is 48 hours for a refund...so if it's extreme circumstances, they might refund a PS deposit as well...no guarantees, though. I don't work there...I just know what they did for me.

I've been calling every day for 2 weeks looking for a cancellation for the Princess Breakfast in Norway! I am taking my granddaughter to WDW and our stay will overlap the stay of her other grandmother.

So, October 10 is the only day we can all 3 go to breakfast together! I figure there is no chance to walk up and get in since the WS doesn't open until 11:00.

Our only chance is if some kind person calls and cancels their PS and I call at the right time.

It is very nice if people do call and cancel.

I cancel mine as well. It helps to know people cancel when you might be hoping to get a hard to get PS.

Yes, I cancel mine when I know I am not going to use them.

I have no problem with people changing their plans unexpectedly -- having way too much fun to stop to eat or stuck on a long line somewhere -- and not cancelling....the system is designed for these types of last minute changes, but I do think that everyone should cancel any PS they know in advance that they won't be using.

I've just cancelled a few for my upcoming trip in Oct -- a princess breakfast for 10.23 (made 2 different dates at the Storybook Princess breakfast awhile back, not sure when we would want to go or if we would want to go twice if we couldn't get CRT's - and now that I've refined my itinerary, I cancelled 1 date...also cancelled an Ice Cream Social PS - just changed my mind not to do it...we're going to take the kids to the Coral Reef for Peanutbutter Playdough instead - and we've got enough other character meals planned).

Anyhow, long story short...yes, I cancel any PS that I know we are not going to use, in order to be considerate to others!

I cancel PS I know we're not going to use. This trip we have family meeting us who might not decide if they're going to join us for our PS until that day. Thus, we might have some arranged for 9, but only 5 show. I have 2 PS for Storybook Princesses until I firm things up, but I will cancel one of them. We're waiting for the 60 day PS's.

We did call and cancell for the most part when we knew we wouldn't use a PS. There was one that we no-showed for as I kept hoping my family would change their minds and want to to (LTT) but no dice, they all opted for more rides right up till the last minute. But everyone is right that calling is appreciated. We had to cancell one at the last minute in Epcot due to changing weather conditions, we stopped at Guest Relations on our way out of the park, they helped us reschedule for later in our trip.

We cancel ours- for courtesy but also so I don't get confused as to what we have - I call up and they outline for me what I have & I add & subtract then.

I always cancel as well.

I agree, it is courteous to cancel, giving others a chance for a maybe long-awaited PS:wave:
Thanks everyone

We always cancel PSs we aren't going to use. We usually make PSs for breakfasts and dinner each day we are there ( all in all 14-20 PS). I had made an agenda for the trip and all the PSs for 11 days. My DH one night said he would like to help with the agenda at this point we were 53 days out. I didn't have the heart to tell him it was done. In all the previous years he did not want to help plan. He just loved enjoying it....it was so nice so see. Well, we ended up changing the agenda and about 20 PSs. I made sure to cancel them the next day.

I was going to cancel some PS on my honeymoon. We went to the Concierge since he made them and asked him to cancel them. He told us not to cancel them and to just not show up. He said it gave people a nice "surprise" when they showed up at the restaurant and didn't have to wait an hour.

Prior to this I always called and told them I wasn't coming. Now I don't know what to do!

We cancel any PS's we realize we can't make, or don't want. However, if I forgot or couldn't get to a phone for some reason, I wouldn't worry too much about it. A PS isn't a reservation, just a chance to be seated before walk-ups. You wouldn't be denying a customer who walked up a seat in the restaurant.
