And don't even get me started on the time I went to Heinz Field (Where the Steeler's play) and had an automatic turbo jet toilet do a mean Niagara Falls rendition all over me.
My hair was dripping. It even went into my nose and mouth.

I think before it doused me- it said "This is for toilets everywhere who have been foot flushed by Jo--- whoosh!"


Okay so now I have grossed myself out.

I must go find some Purell to gargle with.

OMG, I laughed so loud I scared the you know what our of my dogs.

That cross contaminating thing is scary. My sis in law is extremely allergic to Olive oil..she gets sent straight to the ER when she injests even a little bit. Because of that, she rarely goes out to eat, but other people with severe allergies may not think about cross contamination.

She is also very allergic to gluten and nuts. Poor thing.

Wow, you are right that is very scary for your sis in law and if I were her I would not want to dine out either. Thank god I am not allergic to anything. I would die with out my olive oil.

We drive so I bring a comforter and thin blanket and our own pillows. I just spread my comforter over the original and put my pillow on it and we cover with a think blanket or sheet from home, I dont walk around the room barefoot (always in flip flops or slippers) I knew I wasnt the only one in this but it sure feels good to hear about it. I should have never watched that 20/20 special or was it date line? My husband had a run in with bed bugs in a hotel in TN so we check beds real well before even unpacking..

I just went in the bathroom and tried to foot flush (didn't even go to the potty) and I can't even get my short, fat leg up that high (I'm only 5'1").

We don't bring our own bedding, I do check for bed bugs, we don't wipe down anything in the room, my kids have taken baths in the hotel tub, we walk barefoot on the carpet and outside to the pool, we sit on the comforters and use them at night, I've never foot flushed, I do frequently wipe down counter service tables with a wipe, my kids have been known to sit, lay and play on the floors and ocassionally even pick up piece of candy and eat it, and we usually skip the sink and use hand sanitizer instead - that way I know my kids hands are washed. My kids are rarely sick with more than an ear infection or asthma complications - they've built up good immune systems. Now when my ds7 was little, he did a couple of things that even grossed me out - he was caught with the door stop at the local YMCA in his mouth, he licked the que rails at a local amusement park and stuck a ketchup bottle in his mouth (which I gave to the server and told them what happened).

When it comes down to it, we each need to do what makes us comfortable but I don't agree that it's appropriate to put other peoples lives in danger by our actions. We do have latex/food allergies (same gross little boy above) - hey maybe that's what caused it.

I went to the Ohio Caverns (very entertaining, I highly recommend them) and the guide told us that the moss we saw growing was tested and were spores from numerous visitors from other countries, so who knows what is coming into those rooms!
The only reason I would bring my own bedding is simply for comfort, the sheets seem a little harsh, but then, getting home to my own bed, comfy sheets, makes me glad to be home, so I'm thinking.... if I brought my own sheets, (I have comfy sheets),and I'm at Disney, what more do I need!!!!! You would have to drag me kicking and screaming out of that room.........
But..........I never allow the maids in, I have the fresh towels left in a bag at my door, and clean up after myself just like I do at home, so maybe I'm crazy not letting the maids in. I always pack my Clorox wipes, and try to remember to use them................

So anyway, without thinking I reached over today to flush the toilet, with my hand and as I bent over my glasses fell into the toilet.

This thread was the very first thing that popped into my head.

Here is my holiday routine. I get to the hotel drop my hand luggage on the floor, lie on the bed thinking no work for xx number of days. Look at what is available in the hotel go to nearest bar and have a drink. No sheets brought hand sanitizer or another sanitizer anything just sit back relax and enjoy a normal week with weekend (I work shifts so it is nice to have monday to sunday without thinking if which shift pattern I am on)

Woohoo! Can I travel with you? I'm a kindergarten teacher, so hotel germs . . . who has time to worry about hotel germs???

I hate to say it but the last time I visited Disney (in Dec) the hotel were having a local problem with hotels and bed bugs (I am sure you can find those articles in the Sentinal). What I do now is simply strip the bedding when I arrive, use Lysol (great for any of the bad stuff) all over the beds and call housekeeping for an entire new set of bedding (that way you can ensure that the linens have been washed and not just remade). It's all you really need to do to protect against germs. I tip very generously so the housekeeping is not put out by my behavior. I never used to be like that but since I have been on chemotherapy medicine it has really lowered my immune system and virus/etc can really do some damage to me now. It may seem petty to some but to me it really is a life or death situation.

Just wondering. . .

Does anyone/has anyone brought their own bedding/sheets to the resort?

I've never really liked the whole idea of 'community bedding'----but hey, if you want to travel, you have to stay in a motel/hotel, right?

For 30+ years, I managed fine (not necessarily liking it).

I'm seriously considering bringing along my own set of sheets this upcoming trip. I never use the blanket and comforter, anyway (push it to the bottom of the bed or remove it entirely)---gross! I'm thinking I can just put the fitted sheet over the sheets they provide----pillowcases over theirs, etc.

Then, I wonder if I could leave a note for Mousekeeping to NOT make up the beds----so the nasty blanket and comforter don't make their way back to the bed atop of my sheets!?

Please don't think I'm a total germ-a-phobe or nut! (but I guess it is ok, if you do ) . . .I won't mention the clorox wipes I bring. . .ha!

Would like to hear from anyone else who brings or has brought bedding-----if they experienced any problems in doing so with house/mousekeeping. . .etc.

We do not bring our own bedding but we all three do bring our own pillows anywhere we go (does not matter if it is WDW, a condo we rented, hotels, ect...). Public pillows...ugh! People drool while they sleep, their noses could run, people sweat, people prop their feet and legs up with pillows, ect... the thought of shared pillows is absolutely horrid to me! We don't mind the fitted/top sheets (we check them closely for cleanliness before use) but will never use comforters.

We all also bring slippers/Crocs for use in room... as I am sure the carpets are not cleaned regularly plus I am diabetic and cannot risk a straight pin, piece of glass, splinter, ect... being on the floor.

We do bring Lysol wipes to wipe down the phone completely, wipe down the fridge handles, and to disinfect the remote control for the television!

Other than that... we try not to fret and just enjoy the trip!

This is so strange! Just last night, I dreamed I was lying on my stomach on a hotel bed with my head toward the bottom of the bed, watching tv, and I had my feet tucked up under the pillows!

I don't bring my own linens but I do bring a can of lysol and spay the toliet, sink area, door knobs and give the tv remote a light spray to kill germs. I also pull back the linens and will make sure the bedding has been changed and not just staighten up. I think you can't fight germs with kids but I don't want to catch a nasty virus will on vacation. I also don't use their cups that are in the rooms. I saw a Atlanta, Georgia undercover news show that caught the maids on a hidden camera using the same cloth they use to wipe down the toliets and sinks to "clean" the room cups with.

The moderate resorts don't supply the rooms with plastic tumblers sealed inside transparent bags? They use glass tumblers? I didn't know that. Thanks for the tip.

See? There's a benefit of staying at a "cheap" - oops, excuse me, cost-conscious - hotel. We get individually-wrapped, easily disposable, plastic cups. No cleaning issues involved

And, really, MOST hotels, and their room-cleaning staff, are NOT like that.

oh my this thread is back .
I just got back from wdw and have to say, I considered bringing my own linens but honestly without packing and checking another bag, I said forget it. Upon arrival to our room at WL I carefully took off the comforters immediately, folded and put them into the closet. I then asked the mousekeeper for an extra flat sheet. Then I placed that on top and folded under the mattress for a duvet effect. Wha la, that worked for us. Mousekeeping made the bed that way all week. I must say the sheets were indeed clean and crisp. I did however wipe down the remote, phone doorknob, faucet and the drawers out with my clorox wipes as I unpacked.
We walk from a shower to the bed at night with no shoes on - so to me that is living on the edge and took our chances
Worked fine, enjoyed our trip and did not get sick.

On a side note,
Coming home I encountered the W O R S T bathroom I'd ever set foot in at JFK. It was horrid and I happily foot flushed.
