Do you bleach your room?

Yes, I'd love to know about the Allergy Cleaning as well! My son suffers from severe allergies, and receives shots once a month. I take Fabreze Allergy Reducer spray with us when we travel and spray the entire room with it. BTW...it helps A LOT! But, it would be nice to know that Mousekeeping cleaned the room specifically for an allergy sufferer.

I wipe down the remote control and phone receiver with a washcloth and antibacterial hand gel, but thats about it. If I found something questionable, I would consider other things or just call up mousekeeping. Hotels are dirty, just like anywhere else is. You can't escape every single germ that came from someone else. Plus you are in WDW, in parks covered in germs. If I couldn't handle a hotel room, I surely wouldn't be walking around in the parks. H1N1 hasn't changed my opinion at all.

What is a Allergy cleaning? I have never heard of this! Where do a ask for this? My ds5 get 2 shots a week due to his allergy's and he always has a rough time with allergy when we take trips so maybe this would help!

Call and have it noted in your reservation. They will clean everything - including the walls and carpets and will change the bedding including new pillows and comfortors. But don't count on getting to check in early.

I've just decided that I will just stay in the same room that one of you may have been in and it will be nice and clean ....:lmao:

I never really thought about it ?/ But I think I will be cleaning things down with the clorox wipes. can't hurt.

I don't bleach the room. I walk barefoot through it, cuddle up under the ALL the covers, sit on the comforter, touch the remote barehanded (without washing it), touch doorhandles, sit on toilet seats, swim in hotel pools and use the hotel hottubs. I carry hand sanitizer but only use it if my hands feel gross, and really only worry about washing my hands after I use the restroom. I've never been sick on any of my 10 trips to Disney, despite being a rebel.

I febreeze the room, clean the bathroom, spray lysol and the clorox all over the place, and spray my bedding. I admit I have some minor OCD issues. Does this all help? Maybe, maybe not.;) It does make me feel better, though.

You spray the bedding?! So what happens to the person that sleeps in that room after you? All of the cleaning crap soaks into the mattress. I'm guessing you don't have allergies to cleaning stuff, but there are people that do. And honestly, I don't think breathing in cleaning supplies while sleeping is particularly healthy for anyone's lungs.
It's one thing to clean hard surfaces. The chemicals will evaporate. It's another to clean fabric, where the chemicals will remain, particularly when they're soft surfaces where people will be breathing while laying on it for 6-10 hours at a time.

Oh yes! We bleach everything!!!! walls, ceiling, floor, fixtures, doors, windows!!!!
You never know...someone might have smoked in the room...or walked by the room when a door was opened smoking...Bleach, bleach, bleach.....god's gift to those of us who can't stand anything we don't want to deal with!!!! including smoke, H1N1, the seasonal flu, the black plaque, shingles, ecoli, malaria and More!!!

We bring our own sheets, pillows, mattress covers, mattresses, flatware, carpets runners to put over the flooring, shower curtains, light blubs, plastic sheeting to duct tape over the walls....we take NO...and I mean NO chances!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

We don't do a freaky cleaning but definitely do a quick wipe of the handles. Someone else mentioned placing the remote in a ziploc bag - we do this whenever we stay on a hotel. I actually got that tip here a few years ago!

I do bring my own pillowcases and double-bag the pillows. I guess I think it's an extra layer between my face and the last person that drooled on the pillow.

For those who think clorox wipes are bleach - read the small print - it says right on the container "bleach free" - so, if it makes you feel better wiping things down - go for it, but unless you plan on wiping down every single thing you touch from the time you get out of the shower - it really is a waste of effort.

Just wash your hands regularly.

By they way, I do bring a blanket that I lay over the sheets at night - just because the thought of sleeping on something that thousands have slept on before me - DOES gross me out!

Cold weather will not kill the flu virus. :confused3

Unless you have a supressed immune system; all of this is overkill and the chemicals in all those cleaners are worse than leaving it alone.

Excessive cleaning actually weakens the immune system, making it more likely that you'll get sick.

I use the Clorox Wipes for the door handles, remote etc... We fold the bed spread and keep in at the end of the bed. That is about it. I am not an H1N1 freak, I am stomach bug freak. Nothing like the whole family puking to ruin a vacation.

We also bring our own pillowcases, and we clean some areas of the room with lysol wipes. We carry hand sanitizers to use before eating.

I know that all this won't do anything for airborne transmitted viruses but it can help reduce transmission from contaminated surfaces as there are germs such as the Norwalk virus that can survive an extended period of time on surfaces.

Just out of curiosity...do you all repeat the wipe down process after housekeeping or should I say "mousekeeping" visits each day? My child has severe food allergies so I was planning to do a big wipedown to make sure there are none of her allergens present in our room once we arrive. But I hadn't considered the "germ" aspect of it yet... I also really like the ziploc over the remote idea alot ...thanks!

Do you all wash the inside of your rental car???
Do you scrub the handle on your shopping cart?
Do you clean all door handles wherever you go: Stores, churches, schools, friends homes?
Do you wear a mask when you leave your house?

Ziplocks around a remote?!?!?! This is OCD people!!!!

This post should be subtitled:

"You may be a Clean Freak if you...."

yes I spray the rental car with lysol, i use a tissue to open doors and I clean the resort room....YEP but ya know we have NEVER came home from wdw sick!

My feelings exactley. I am reading some of these posts and thinking to myself these people have to be joking. All we do is wash our hands on a regular basis and we have never came down with a bug at WDW, Atlanta, Knoxville, Indianapolis, or any other hotel that we have stayed at. It is a vacation people if I wanted to clean I would stay home.

I admit it...I might have OCD. I've been reading these posts and thinking to myself that YES, I do most of these things. DH laughs at me.

1. I wear flip-flops in the room at all times.
2. I bring clorox wipes to wipe everything down (especially the remote).
3. I take the comforter off the bed immediately.

Oh, and by the way, I saw the post about "what do you ladies do with your purses when you use the restroom". I NEVER put my purse down. I keep it over my shoulder.

And this is all due to a 20/20 episode that I saw when I was younger. I'm not worried about catching H1N1 or anything - I just think the stuff you find in hotels is gross (along with other places - but I won't get into what I do for that).

It just helps knowing that it's somewhat cleaner than when you entered the room - I know it's not perfect. I'm sure mousekeeping does a great job, but after all the people that stay in the rooms I can't help but get a little paranoid/anxious. Especially in the Villas that are not cleaned on a daily basis.:scared1:

We had never brought wipes, etc. with us on previous trips but we will in November. Last year at the same time,Thanksgiving, 3 of our group got a nasty stomach bug after having been in the parks for a few days. Then in April, I got the flu. Everyone will have the mini bottles of hand sanitizer 9with alcohol)and I'll remind them to use it often. It may not be 100%effective but it will be more effective than doing nothing.
In the room, I'll wipe down the door knobs, faucet handles, and toilet lever but I'm not going to cleaning mode.
