I think if it happens anytime soon it's because we caused it. Or let our leaders cause it.

As I don't take the bible literally, I voted 'not sure'. I would not presume to guess what God has in store for us.

I'm really not sure, but I think that if it is really going to happen it will be soon. A lot of what was predicted in the bible around the end of time is happening right now. It's not really something I want to think about.

I don't think so. I'm not a scriptural literalist, so I always took the story as more metaphorical and having more to do with the mindset of the writer than as an actual prophecy.

I don't know God's plans, but my guess for the future of Earth is as follows:

Humans as we are know them will continue to evolve and eventually branch into a new species with our current species becoming extinct, just like the many iterations that preceded us. We may continue to evolve as a species, but will probably eventually be part of a massive super-extinction, just as has happened several times over geologic history (kind of like what happened to the dinosaurs). I don't know if any homind will survive or redevelop, but life will go on and keep evolving until the sun blows, Earth is irretrivably damaged by some cosmic incident (massive collision or the like), or is somehow destroyed by its inhabitants. At the time that happens, some form of intelligent life may or may not have developed the ability to leave Earth and settle elsewhere.

That's just my theory based on what's happened in the past, but it really doesn't matter to me too much. I've only got another 60-80 years on Earth, and whatever happens, I'll deal with as best I can.

Yes, but I have no idea when. Next month? Next year? Next decade? Next century? Next millenium? I have no idea, but with each new nuclear bomb that's made we get closer and closer and closer. If we piss off the wrong country/person/people, it may be the "end times" for us as a nation, but maybe not for the entire world.

Even if an all out nuclear nightmare doesn't break out, we could still face the "end times" by other means. Anyone fill up their gas tank lately? Get a letter from their water authority about the pollution in their water? Watch the news to see a family killed in a house fire because they couldn't pay their heating bill and were using alternative means of heating their house? Have to buy their elderly parent their medicine because they couldn't afford it? Just the beginning.

Do I believe that in the "end times" Jesus will lead the charge out of the Heavens and a battle of Good and evil will take place with Good winning? I don't know. I do hope though, that if we are in a nuclear battle, destroying this beautiful planet when He comes, He sees my side (whatever that may be) as the Good side. :hippie: :teeth:

I voted "not sure" because I believe it could happen, but not necessarily according to religious teachings.

As a planet, I suppose there could be an end due to many possibilities. As a people, we tend to be self-destructive and much of that is over religious differences.

I suppose anything is possible, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I'll simply live each day as good as I can. With a little luck I will die of old age. Well, at least a lot older than I am now.

One of my DD's High School teachers told his class that none of us would be here in 20 years because Jesus Christ was coming back(I would have called the school on him, but DD begged me not to because he's a "good teacher")..He knows this because everything that's going on now world wide are things that were predicted in the Bible  . I'm not real happy about the fact that he teaches this(with the school admin. not knowing) to kids who believe they have their whole lives ahead of them.

BTW, I voted "not sure"....and this thread is depressing :guilty:

There are many hypotheses to the end of the known Universe, but it probably will not happen anytime within mankind's lifetime. Our extinction is ultimately inevidable, and all we can do is try to make our mark as much as we possibly can.

A little bit of an "out there" explaination of my vote... but whatever... in a weird mood tonight. :wizard:

I believe in God and the Bible and yes I believe in Armageddon.(Watched the movie tonight BTW, the one with Bruce Willis, not God...LOL)

I can remember as a child our pastor saying all the things were coming true from the Bible and the world would end soon. I don't think anyone (except God) knows when it will really happen. Like Maggie said could be today, could be tomorrow could be 100 years from now!

No way! The world will end eventually, but not because of some religious prophesy. I think all that stuff is made up to put fear in people and scare them into someone else's agenda.

So that was John's plan all along??

I believe pretty much along the lines of the Left Behind series. I'm a pre-millenniest. I believe the rapture will happen first. Christ will call all Christians, all-time, to be with Him in Heaven. Seven years of the Tribulation; very bad time for those "left behind." Many will become believers during this time & the anti-christ will arise. Christ & the Church will then return to earth for the 2nd time to begin Christ's 1000 year reign. Satan & his Angels will be bound. After this, Satan will be unbound & Armageddon will erupt. Christ will defeat Satan & the anti-christ once & for all. Judgement will occur. Those whose name is found in the Book of Life (believers) will spend eternity on a new Earth in Christ's presence. Those who reject Christ will spend eternity in Hell. Very literal view of Daniel & the Revelation, I know.

Philippians 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

I disagree that it's depressing. It was nice of you not to call the school. Your daughter likes the teacher and maybe she is considering things that she hadn't considered before. There is nothing wrong with that. A bit off topic; What's an atheist at his own funeral?? Ans. "All dressed up and no place to go". ;)
