OK, so who watches Jack Van Impe & Rexella?? If you believe in the "end of times" they are the best people to watch.
I actually enjoy them.

I believe in the "end of times" but I don't think it's as close as a lot of people seem to think. People have probably thought it was close almost since the Bible was first used.

I voted yes, and this pretty much sums it up for me, too.

I believe pretty much along the lines of the Left Behind series. I'm a pre-millenniest. I believe the rapture will happen first. Christ will call all Christians, all-time, to be with Him in Heaven. Seven years of the Tribulation; very bad time for those "left behind." Many will become believers during this time & the anti-christ will arise. Christ & the Church will then return to earth for the 2nd time to begin Christ's 1000 year reign. Satan & his Angels will be bound. After this, Satan will be unbound & Armageddon will erupt. Christ will defeat Satan & the anti-christ once & for all. Judgement will occur. Those whose name is found in the Book of Life (believers) will spend eternity on a new Earth in Christ's presence.

I believe that the end times are from Jesus' time forward. We're always to be aware, always watching but not dwelling on it. Be ready, because whether or not we see the "end of time", you'll see the end of your time.

There have always been signs and evil leaders who have made people think, "it must be near". I believe that Hitler and others were in place because Satan always has someone ready for the job because he doesn't know when the time will be either. Only God knows when. And as everything else in the Bible, it will look as though natural incidents are happening (remember Moses freeing the Israelites?) but it will be God's plan unfolding. JMHO.

Voted no.

I think all religions are nonsense, that the concept of a God is one that plays well with the human psyche because it creates a ready answer for any question.
What I find particularly sad is the huge amount of natural resources wasted on inventing and pursuing religious beliefs, the energy consumed, the raw materials squandered and, especially, the brain power misappropriated.

No. Unless people are going to interpret a natural disaster (asteroid collison for example) as being the end times, I don't see anything else ever affecting the entire planet.

Of all the stories made up to control people, IMO the ones about "end times" do the most damage.

People have believed we are living in the end times for almost 2000 years. Preacher after preacher has come along and claimed the end is near. So far, all have been wrong.

Growing up, our church liked to show the Mark IV movies (Thief in the Night, Distant Thunder, Image of the Beast) and went through the whole "rapture is near" comparison of Bible vs current events. Pastor didn't know exactly when the rapture would occur, but he was 100% convinced it had to be sometime before 1988. It *had* to happen by then because of what the Bible said.

If folks like the Life Behind movies, they should check out the Mark IV films.

It must be - my brother bought me a birthday card for the first time ever this year and that's a sign of the apocalypse for sure.

Those who reject Christ will spend eternity in Hell. Very literal view of Daniel & the Revelation, I know.

Philippians 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Both of these posts sum up by beliefs about the end times quite well.

I went to a Christian school we saw Thief in the Night at a school assembly.

So that was John's plan all along??

Yes. Control the masses by threatening them with horrific, eternal punishment, but promising salvation if they offer up blind, unquestioning obedience.

The only gospel I believe is Mark. I don't think Revelation has anything to do with Jesus, or His message.

If you don’t mind expounding a little more on your beliefs, I am interested in hearing them. Do you not believe in the Messianic prophecies that Jesus will fulfill in His second coming? Also, what is it about the book of Mark that makes you believe it, but not John’s books? Also, I’m not clear about the blind obedience part. I’m honestly curious, not attacking.

As Karl Marx said, "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people."

Tell 'em they'll suffer for all eternity of they don't behave and obey, and they'll be submissive. :confused3

Like Salmoneous mentioned, throughout history and in many different belief systems, those in power have used end of times scenarios.

My own mother swears by the Hopi Prophecies.

NO,I don't

I'm with you. "End of times" makes for interesting reading for some--I prefer to live in the NOW--except for planning my next trip to Disney! (It's the only thing I have control over--well I like to think so, anyway! :sunny: )

OK, I understand your point. I would beg to differ on this one point though. Christianity teaches salvation through faith (acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior), not through works like obeying and being good. So I guess I don’t see it as a way to make people behave a certain way.

I disagree that it's depressing. It was nice of you not to call the school. Your daughter likes the teacher and maybe she is considering things that she hadn't considered before. There is nothing wrong with that. A bit off topic; What's an atheist at his own funeral?? Ans. "All dressed up and no place to go". ;)

No...my DD isn't considering things she hasn't considered before. She is a very free-spirited individual who still has questions, but does believe in a higher being(and after suffering severe depression for about a year a couple years ago, the end of the world is not something she wants to deal with). She didn't want me to call because she thinks that otherwise he's a very good teacher and nice man. She totally disagreed with what he did.

Yes...IMO its extremely depressing....wouldn't matter whether or not I'm a Christian or what I believe. I don't deal well with people shoving the Rapture down my throat(not talking about you). If we're going to go, then we're going to go. While I'm here I want to enjoy LIFE and not worry about death. I was raised a Christian, but again..I have LIFE to live now. I have no desire to speak of death and what Armageddon will bring. If it's not depressing to you, then so be it..I won't fault you for that.

If it happens, it happens...nothing I can do about it. BUT...people have been predicting the end of the world for ions. I only hope that I, my children and their children(and hopefully many more generations) can enjoy life in a world that they can help make better.

I voted yes, and here's why. 1) If we cause it. 2) Because I believe that at some point one of those big rocks floating around in space we call an asteroid will find it's way to Earth. 3) If that big floating be-be doesn't find us then the Sun will eventually go Nova.

In Mark 14:32 It states:

But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

I believe the end of times is very near. I'm ready. I have accepted the Lord and know where I'll be after that happens.

This summer, while on vacation at the ocean, I read the first in the Left Behind series. The name of the church in the story is New Hope Church. When we were driving home (thru one of the Carolinas) I passed a New Hope Church Road. It gave me chills!

Very scary stuff in the book of Revelation!!!
