do we take dvd on plane for 2 year old

We are flying for the first time that my dd will have her own seat, should we bring the dvd? Or do you think she will be occupied enough with the atmosphere and toys I will bring?

I vote for the DVD Player also. it also helped us in the hotel a couple of times. The hotel lost cable one night and it was thundering and lighting so bad we could leave. Instead we threw in a movie and sat around the little dvd player.

I would bring the dvd player with headphones - better safe than sorry! Some flights my DD is happy to color, etc. and other flights she needed the distraction of watching a movie. I always pack her a carry-on that is hers. She has a backpack that we put the dvd player and a few movies, coloring books and crayons, a stuffed animal and her snacks in. This has worked great for us and she has flown four times with no issues.

You didn't say how long the flight was, but I would say bring it - make sure it's charged and has headphones. It will entertain them and it will also keep them still which will be a benefit to you and to the other passengers.

Next time we fly, I will probably only bring the DVD player - that is all my DD2 needed to be entertained. Maybe I was bad, but I didn't bring headphones, I just made sure it was low enough so noone else could hear it. I could barely hear it sitting next to her. I knew she wouldn't wear the headphones, and I figured if someone could hear a little bit of noise was better than hearing her cry or whine.

definitely bring the dvd player along with the headphones. even if they have tv's in the seats (like jetblue) you can't be guaranteed that your dd will be enthralled by what's available.

where do you get headphones? Do you have to get special ones or just the standard headphones in any electronic dept?

One hint. Let him watch the DVD player at home starting about 6 weeks before you go ONLY using the headphones. That way he gets used to using them and won't pitch a fit on an airplane. My DB and DSIL did this with my 3-year old niece a year ago and it worked great. She flew down with me and in her mind the DVD only works with the headphones. She still uses it in my car for long road trips and still doesn't realize it works without headphones!

PS...I find it very irritating to be on a plane and hear a kid's DVD. I am not sure it is possible to be so low that I can't hear it. I must have VERY good ears.

It worked out great for our 3 yr. old to have a dvd player. Sometimes he used the headphones but honestly, with the noise on the plane, you could'nt really hear it from one seat over without the headphones.

BRING THE DVD PLAYER!!!

you won't regret it! you can find some kids headphones in target, pink or blue by Sony.......they are a bit smaller for kids heads.......

also do a search on line for tadpoles headphones, they are good too and that's one of the headphones that my dd4 uses.......she has had an ipod since she was 3, or maybe even a couple of months before her 3rd birthday and it is a huge helper if we get stuck in traffic for an hour going to grandma's and just to help her decompress........

it will be a comfort to watch some things your child watches at home, while in a different place.......have a great trip!

Definitely take the DVD player. It is hard for young ones to sit for so long and a movie is a good distraction It also helps keep me sane!!!

I highly recommend the over the head earphones (bose makes great ones) for small children, as the "earbuds" can damage their hearing at such a young age.

My DD5 just uses her ipod that we download movies onto. If you have one, it takes up much less space than a portable DVD player.

When ds was that age, we just turned the volume all the way down, and he didn't care.

We bought these: GE Jasco Flexible Headphones a while back from Target. You can twist them and abuse them to a degree, they are fairly durable. They are also a little smaller so they fit smaller heads better. Definitely get your LO used to them at home before the trip. My ds would never keep headphones, hats, or sunglasses on at that age though!
