I am wondering if the Resorts change the comforter's when you check in. I have seen some real terribel reports on TV and hotels not cleaning the Comforter's. How should I ask this at check in without wanting to sound rude? I have always wondered about this. Anyone know or ever ask this question. I know they change the sheets. My aunt use to clean hotel rooms years ago, and she told me that they send the comforter's out twice a year for cleaning. Oh geeze. Oh she did not work for Disney...

I'm not sure, but I really doubt it.:( I wonder what they'd do if they saw us packing our comforters down to the laundry room to wash them?

You know, that is just not something I have ever thought of! As long as it is clean, smells fresh and has no obvious stains, I will assume it is clean, and not loose any sleep over it!

I certainly hope they wash them. My BIL and his family own a couple of motels in MB, SC. I asked him specifically if they wash the comforters between check-ins. He said they do. If they do, then hopefully, surely, maybe(?) WDW does. Please, please let them wash them... :(

I dont believe that they do change them. When we were there last October, we discovered melted chocolate, huge gobs of it on the comforter on one bed. It was obvious to me when we checked in, so it should have been obvious to houskeeping as well. I called down to the front desk and complained, they said HK would be up in a few minutes. Well, several hours later, two housekeepers showed up with a couple of new spreads. The first question they asked, was do you want both spreads changed? Well, Duh! Absolutely! I think from now on I will ask to have the spreads changed when we arrive anyway, just to be sure! ;)

TinkerPixie, I'm in pain here.. That is exactly what I did not want to hear. (I do thank you for the post, however...;))
Gasp.... Ick... Ewwww... Somebody say it isn't so!!

Yeah! It was pretty nasty...
Just call and get replacements...it'll make you feel much better, I promise!

The first thing I do when I check into ANY hotel room is take the comforter off the bed, fold it up and put it in the closet. If it doesn't fit, I put it in a corner of the room. Most hotels do NOT wash them after each check out.

I have seen one too many PrimeTime/48 Hours/60 minutes/etc. on what special black lights pick up in hotel rooms. Folks--It ain't pretty!!!!

Our spread (POR-R) had, what looked like an orange lollipop section stuck to it. We took it off....didn't need it anyway (the spread..and the lollipop..but the orange stain still was there). Each day the maid put it back on (no place to hide it!), and we took it off. What surprised me was that our sheets were not changed and we were there 7 days (OK, I'm guilty of putting a mark on them, that would wash right out). I change them more than that at home!

My understanding is that the comforters are rarely washed. Most look as if they could not stand a daily washing.

I often travel with my own duvet. This allows me to do away not only with the unwashed comforter, but the unwashed blanket as well.

Another option is to bring an extra sheet, so that the bed will be "triple-sheeted." This keeps one from having to touch the unclean comforter or blanket.

OK don't laugh but ever since I saw the reports on Dateline, 20/20 I always pack a comforter. I take the one off in the hotel room fold it up put in closet and use my own. I also take my own pillows. The ones in the hotels don't get washed either. So I put them in the closet with the comforter. I have no problem with the sheets. You can usually smell the bleach or feel the bleach on them. Ha Ha just call me obsessed. But when I stay somewhere I want it as clean as my house.

Will they think I am crazy to ask for new bedspreads even if the comforters appear clean?
I don't want to be rude but I like to use the bedspread for covers. I never thought of this before and now I am sceeving out:eek:
Who would I ask and when would I ask it? Has anyone done this before?

Just bring a can of LYSOL Disinfectant Spray with you to kill germs. You know it kills 99.9% of germs in 30 seconds. Not bad huh?

Glad it's not just me:) Another vote for taking your own pillows & covers if you're able to. I don't think I've ever seen comforters on laundry carts at the resorts.

Oh GROSS!!!!

Never even thought of this before. Now I'll never sleep in those beds. Travelling with 4 kids, there is no way I can carry my own stuff.

We were told by housekeeping at CBR many years back that they DO NOT change the comforters OR the blankets between guests but you CAN request this. I always take the comforter off the bed and spray everything down with lysol before taking off for the parks. Since we always drive down my DH would have a fit if I tried packing complete bedding for multiple rooms in the car with us. But I sure wish I could. I've even thought of those space type bags but I don't know how I would pull it off for the trip back home. Any ideas would be appreciated. LoL

DisneyFreaks-ok, so I'm obessive compulsive, but here's what I do: Put my pillows & comforters into a big trash bag...I think I can fit two pillows & two twin comforters into one bag. Put the vaccum cleaner hose into the top of the bag, bunch the bag around the hose to kind of seal it, then suck the air out of the pillows & comforters. For the ride home, find a gas station with a vaccum & do the same thing. It looks awful, but it sure saves room.

Steffi,

Great Idea, but I think my husband would kill me, considering what we pay for rooms at WDW.

Lizzie-Haha! You're probably right. My comforter trash bags are always the last thing I sneak into the car. My husband would never actually condone this behavior!
