Do the Disney Characters hate teens/adults that try and interact with them?

(posted this on another forum here but wasnt sure where to put it so put it in two places :P )

I don't mean just for no reason I just mean annoying teens/adults that mess with them...lol. Me and my best friend love Disney World. We're 20 now but last time we went with my family we were 18 (Going back in two weeks though!)

We loved getting autograph books and having fun with the characters, goofing off and talking to them, getting them to fist bump us and take funny pictures with us (mostly based on us trying to get comedy out of trying to get cool/"badass" poses out of us and Winnie the Pooh and Tigger and stuff lmao.) There's just something hilarious about seeing the Disney characters in these "badass" poses and stuff - arms crossed, holding arm out rapper style or something lol....then we'd just talk to them and have them sign it.

But do they kind of hate us because we're not little kids and so do they just find us obnoxious? I remember in Disney World the people who played Chip and Dale were HILARIOUS. We were with them for like five minutes. They were messing around like taking the autograph book and pretending to lick it and rub it under their armpits and stuff - we were dying. We eventually were like "Cmon we have to take a cool picture...think of a cool pose" and one of them like did the arms crossed thing and we had just done that earlier with Pooh so we were like "Cmon, EVERYBODY does that...we gotta be original think of something cooler." Eventually one of them does the over-exaggerated thinking thing and then went behind us and started picking up acorns that he gave to all of us. Then he tried to motion to us and wanted all four of us to all throw the acorns up in the air at the same time and to have the picture taken of us with all the acorns in the air. lmao. It didnt really work out that way but that was one of the coolest picture ideas I ever heard of and those two guys made my trip.

I hope they don't hate teens/adults that mess with them because it was the highlight of Disney was joking around with them. Funny how funny cast members can give the best memory of a trip.

My DBF and I just got back (23 and 24 respectively) and we saw a total of 20 characters while we were there. We had a great time with them. The princesses all chatted with us and the others were more than happy to do a funny pose. Some are better than others with adults but go and see who you want to see and have fun!

You just have to look at it from their POV.

If you're doing something that you would hate if someone did it to you, then yeah ... the Characters are probably just playing along and can't wait until you leave. If you're poking and pushing and being annoying and trying to get them to do things that you KNOW they can't do (the number of spring break college kids who try to get the princesses to kiss them on the lips or hold their butts is kind of ridiculous), then yeah ... they probably hate you. But if you're just having fun, and you're willing to let it go if the Character says "no, I can't do that", then they enjoy the extra interaction.

But the general rule of thumb is "if I were in the character costume, would I think that was funny?" If the answer is "no", then don't do it.

They're technically not allowed to judge or complain. They have to stick with their characters and be nice to everyone. They can judge you in their minds, but they are not allowed to break character and say you cannot take a picture with them, unless they're done for the day.

:thumbsup2 That last part is amazing!

They have no reason to hate you. However, they will if you ask 'are you hot?', hit them, and insist on stuff they just can't do. Just play the part and come up with cool stuff ask Tigger if they have let him bounce enough. Tell Pluto that you were trying to bring a doggy treat for him but security didn't think it was a good idea. Tell Daisy there is a shoe sale somewhere so when she gets out she can hit the stores. Adults and teens are just as fun as the kids.

It is hard to get to be a character, so each individual must really want to do it. It takes a lot of training (mannerisms and signatures, plus hairstyles and such for face characters) and it is competitive (only the best get the gig). Like anybody, I am sure some days they just want to go home, but for the most part, I suspect they like what they do.

I agree with everyone else. I don't think they care or hate you unless you are being rude and obnoxious. But I bet they don't like even when little kids are rude and obnoxious.

And I don't think it matters to them how old you are either. I don't really care about the characters but I went to Garden Grill on my latest trip and I just let DBF greet the characters, since I didn't go there for the characters and didn't want to interact with them. I would just take the pictures from my seat, I wouldn't even get up most of the time, just wave hello when they did, and that's it. However, when Chip got to our table, he insisted that I get up and take a picture with him. He took me by the hand, "kissed" my hand and pretended to steal me from DBF :rotfl:

A couple of other characters my DBF wanted to take a picture with also wanted me to be in the picture, even after I said no, I'm okay, they would insist.

So yeah, I guess they don't hate adults at all and some, like that Chip, seem to like everyone :)

i saw snow white yell at a creepy dude taking pictures of other kids, it was great, she stayed in character the entire time. the guy left, when she said she would call in prince charming

Not entirely true. If, for example, someone says to Snow White, "Hey -- I think it'd be funny if you were French kissing me in a photo", Snow White will (in character) demure and say that she would rather not. If the person then says, "OK ...well ... how about if I make believe you're sharing my beer?", she will say (in character) that she would rather not.

At that point, the Character Attendant should step in and deal with the guest, but if the CA is otherwise occupied, Snow White (or any character, really) will definitely do whatever they need to do to avoid being caught in a photo that they should not be in.

If the characters don't treat you badly would it really matter if the person inside the costume hates you or not? If they did their job and you have fun with the characters, then you had fun, the thoughts of the person in the costume don't enter into it much. As long as you don't treat them badly, but asking them to do funny poses that don't involve impropriety doesn't sound like harassing the characters.

I've had great interactions with them all so far lol

I hope not! Last year when we saw goofy he kept hugging and pretended to kiss my mom. So my dad jokingly acted jealous and goofy and him pretended to get in a little fight over my mom! It was the funniest thing and made for some cute pictures! :)

Good for her. There are to many creepy people out there. I dont understand why some people need to take pictures of other children.

Haha that's good to know. Yeah like I said Chip and Dale practically made my whole trip with their antics. I still am impressed with the acorn throwing idea when we put pressure on them for a cool pose they played along with us the whole time.

Cant wait to go back and get more.Even though I know its just some guy in a suit its hard not to feel like you really just talked to the character himself :D

let me rephrase that, i think he was just trying to take pictures of her, but there were also kids there, there was myself and at least 5 other dads in the line, he WASNT going to be taking pictures of our kids.

This is also really off topic but I feel like sometimes the cast members make the trip even better than the rides. I have so many memorable things they've done. One other favorite was when the jazz band went in high school we all went on the Haunted Mansion. There's the butler/usher guy at the door and the guy is like so creepy. He's just silently staring at everybody.

Well one of the guys with us is drinking a large soda. We get to the door and the creepy butler/usher/whatever he is guy at the door is just looking at us as we get to the door, glaring. Without saying a word or changing his facial expression he just snatches the drink out of my friend's hand. It happened so fast and he never says a word to us and we walk in. lmao it was hilarious.

I do a lot of cosplay and other character work, not for Disney unfortunately, and what I always tell people is that when you are in costume, you are the character. Everything else doesn't matter you are the character and the real "you" just kind of fades away until the costume comes off. I do a lot of things in costumes that I would never do as me but the character I am would. I'm sure most of the Disney characters enjoy what they do.

We are at WDW now. My 36 yo DH loves the characters. They all seem to interact with him like they enjoy it. I asked buzz about Latin mode and he danced with me.

I've had some great interaction with the characters. I was reading Berlioz's site about tips and asking them questions that relate to their stories and they seemed to really get into it.
I asked Snow White how we're the dwarves doing, well, she wouldn't shut up about them! It was great fun.
Rapunzel and Flynn are the best duo IMO. Flynn asked me how I knew his name and I told him I had seen the 'wanted' posters, but his nose seems different and he was like 'I know right! It's so annoying!'
As to chip & dale, I've heard they have an interesting reaction if you ask them if they're squirrels, never done it myself but would love to have the courage too.

I had a friend that played Tigger and some of the taller characters on occasion in Disneyland and I asked him this same question and he prefers adults actually. Kids would always grab him in awkward places or cry and he thought the adults were more fun.
