Do some people just NOT know that their park ticket can get fastpasses??

I don't understand how people don't know about FP either..it's on the maps and if you miss that, wouldn't you at least be curious at seeing the machines and the signs mentioning FP? Why wouldn't you ask a CM? Boggles my mind.:confused3

I feel so let down.

I took full advantage of Fast Pass during our recent trip (as I have during my previous 2 trips in the more than 10 years since FP machines were introduced)
and at no time during my walk through a fast pass line has anyone ever commented that I was somehow cutting in line or given me a dirty look for jumping ahead of them.

I did however get some big smiles and a thank you when I offered a woman and her two kids at the end of the Buzz Lightyear standby line my extra FPs.
Oh, we get tons of dirty looks and comments, but we are b****y enough to enjoy them.:rotfl2: There was one time where I almost stopped and tried to explain the whole FP thing to one PITA but then I figured, if they aren't smart enough to do basic research and/or reading, why should I?

And I tried to give FPs to one family, but they looked like I was offering them a dead hamster or something.:confused3

You would think that the natural curiosity of seeing all those people lining up and getting something out the machines would lead more people to figure out what is up. Heck, if I see a few people gathered around or lined up I figure that something cool must be going on and I am certainly nosy enough to go and find out what it is! :thumbsup2

OT, but I love those cats in your signature! Too cute!

We were just there and as we were walking in the FP line heard a guy say to his family "We just can't afford those FP" ??????? I agree with the other posters that have said why spend so much on the trip not knowing about things like the FP????

If it was me, and I wasn't personally in a hurry, I would have actually stopped, and asked if anyone did not understand Fastpass, and explain it to them. If at that point they still thought I was somehow a stuck up snobby rich person, that's there problem that can't be solved. But hopefully SOMEONE in that line will be wiser.

In defense of fast pass confused people, we were once one.
However, the only reason I even vaguely knew or understood or even knew to ask or leqrn about FP is because I had stumbled across the disboards before our first trip 5 years ago.
I knew there was a FP option when i got to disney, but we were a bit hestitant about how to use it. So, we got over our shyness one time and went up to a machine and figured out to stick our passes in and then got the tickets. a little reading and trail and error and we figured it all out.
We have never been to any place that has a fast pass system so how would we even know about it? and often until you try something it can seem intimidating, or you assume there is an extra cost involved etc..

thankfully we did find the disboards and knew enough to try and figure the system out. We may have stumbled across it on the park maps if we had, but really your first trip there you are so ovewhelmed and immersed in what is going on, it is hard to take in everything.

This is almost always my experience, lol. People look at me like I'm crazy or about to ask them for money or something.

Once in a while I find people who know what they are and are just glad and say, "Hey, thanks!", but usually I get guarded, concerned looks.

The answer is no. At Cedar Point (near us) they have a fastpass feature that costs almost as much as the ticket. Not worth it to me. So I assumed a Disney Fastpass would cost extra. I asked our travel agent through AAA about the Fastpass and she explained it, but did not tell me it's free. After she'd told us about it (she really didn't seem to care for it) I was talking to a friend who went last year and she said, "Make sure you use the Fastpasses when you can." I told her we're cheap and weren't buying one. She replied, " But they're free!" then she explained them better then the agent. There is a lot of miscommunication out there, but that's why I'm planning months in advance. The last time I was there I was 6 and it was in 1978. There was a lot less going on there back then. Now I'm taking my kids. Hope we manage to have fun. :)

yes, we get this a lot, people are very suspicious of what you are giving them..sometimes it is almost hard to give them away!

Thanks! We love them too!:lovestruc

I have given our Fast Passes away a few times, never had any problems. I guess I have only picked people that did the research.

We have gotten the dirty looks and comments when in the FP line but just ignore it. I have no interest in what strangers that I will never see again have to say. I have taken the time to explain FP to anyone that asks or that I am chatting with, if it comes up.

There are so many people that come to the fastpass line with just their tickets to show me, so many people who show their fast passes with the tickets, etc. Keep in mind that a LOT of people who don't seem to understand fastpass are also international, and it is a confusing concept. I try to explain it like a dining reservation.

Also, when the machines get cold and persnickety, it's hard to say "Oh! You just put your ticket in and a fastpass comes out." and NO fastpass comes out.

To be honest, that's how I felt the first time we went to DLR as a family (I hadn't been since I was a preteen, and in '05 when we went I was around 35) and the Photopass people approached us. I didn't even listen, just thought they were selling me something (which of course ultimately they are, but it's not right then and there) and didn't let them take our pictures. Our first trip there all together, with my brother and sister in law and my 1 year old...augh....

So I have some empathy.

I think when we go to WDW I might carry extra maps turned to the FP explanation part, and if I hear any grumbling, I'll just hand 'em the info. :)

I have a friend who always brags that he paid extra for the "Fast Pass Option" on his Disney Tickets. The first few times, I would tell him that all Disney Tickets can be used for a Fast Pass. Now, I just smile and say "uh huh!"popcorn::
I would've just smiled and said "they always give me the Fast Pass Option for free."

They probably think we're all up there sticking our credit cards in there like an ATM. And it sucks $10 out of our accounts for each FP we get.

I never noticed any dirty looks but, then again, it's not my fault they don't know what they're doing. Heck, even if they just watched the planning DVD they actually say, no reading involved, the Fast Pass is free with their theme park admission. Just like PPs said... fine by me, I'll take their fast passes!

I don't get this one. Even if it's your first time there, FP directions are printed RIGHT ON THE MAP brochure you get when entering the park!

I don't know what you're referring to. There is no fastpass of any kind at Cedar Point. They experimented years ago with something like that, but there's nothing currently.

The first time we went I had found the DIS and spent hours upon hours researching. I understood FP. Dh was not interested in anything I had learned. He was a "just tell me where to go and what to do" guy. So at one point we went to the FP machines in MK and I took our tickets and fed them into the machine got them for Thunder Mountain. Then I said "Time for lunch!". Yeah, I tried to explain to him that we were coming back later and he just looked at me like I was crazy. I finally said, look at that wait time-- I am NOT waiting that long. The line should be shorter later.;)

After lunch at Pecos Bills I headed to Splash Mountain and got our FP there. Again, "line is too long, we will come back later". Back to TM and headed with DH to the FP line. He kept protesting that the line was over there and this was the wrong place. I took him by the hand, showed the FP to the CM and off we went into the empty FP line. DH just kept saying "this is crazy" "we can't be over here" "we can't be cutting" "this will never work". Got to the front, handed over the FP and we were put directly in the line up for the cars (whatever they call that). DH was speechless. Then he was :woohoo::cheer2::woohoo: . After the ride we headed to SM (we got some really great return times that visit) and as we went into the FP line he kept looking at the people in line and whispering to me under his breath "Suckers" "Guess they didn't do any research", "Can't believe they are standing in line when they don't have to" :lmao:

Some people just don't get it until they have tried it, and refuse to believe it enough to even give it a shot! Of course the worst part after that was trying to explain to DH that not EVERY ride had FP and we would have to stand in a few lines!

Fine with me. Saves more FastPasses for the rest of us! :thumbsup2

I think your dh and mine must be related... I can almost hear our coversations now lol....He'll keep telling me I'm wrong and don't know what I'm doing then when I'm right he'll hang his head in shame and quitely aplogize....:rotfl:

I have no problem using our FP. I actually have a friend whose son loves using the FP line. It makes him feel smarter than all the grown-ups because he knows a secret that a lot of people in the other line do not know or even understand. He's 7.

Yes, despite the MANY ways Disney explains that FPs are free and how to obtain and use them (when you check in, on every park map, near all the FP distribution areas, in their website, and in all the Disney planning books and on all the Disney planning websites), there are many people who think they need to buy them. Or that they are only for WDW property hotel guests.

In their defense, resort tv did once used to say in their "tip for today" that if you were staying on property, you could utilize the FP system. So I think that idea is still going around, even though Disney hasn't promoted it that way in a long time.

On our very first trip the FP system was either in testing, or just rolled out. I remember using the face pass line at Splash mountain. There was a 45 minute wait. As we're going through the line we can over hear a conversation between a wife and husband.
Wife:" where are those people going?"
Husband:"It's some kind of fast pass line. It's STUPID, you miss all the good stuff."

This guy knew what it was but acted like we were idiots for using it. Meanwhile we rode Splash and Big thunder and had lunch probably before they were off the ride.

Six Flags also has some sort of fat pass that you have to pay for....
