I read that when out to sea, the shops now charge an automatic gratuity to all purchases. Is this true? Also, is soda still included? It has been awhile since we have been on a Disney cruise.
Soda/coffee/tea/juice/milk/etc are available for free from the MDR's, Cabanas, and the 24 hr beverage station on the pool deck. There is a charge for any type of drink in the lounges/bars and that would have an automatic 15% tip applied to it. There is also an automatic tip for spa services.
If you were reading about the Magic: any cruises completely in the EU (like the Mediterranean ones) have a VAT charged on ALL purchases, including internet packages.
There is a 15% auto gratuity for orders at lounges and bars, and 18% auto gratuity for spa treatments. For our Mediterranean cruise we also had a 21% VAT on all purchases of products (gifts, clothing, etc) but no additional tax on bar orders, spa treatments, laundry, or alcohol to be consumed on the cruise.
