Do people write crued things on your white board?

We had a mini scottish flad outside our room, no one touched it.:confused3
Too scared in case we ran after them with our kilts on:lmao:

:rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2:

We were given a white board as a gift on our first cruise. Our DD's new friend used it to write messages to her so they could meet up at the pool or the kids club. :goodvibes It worked really well.

In the wee small hours one night, a smarty pants wrote "Knock me hard" on ours. Luckily no-one followed the request or else they would have been met at the door by one grumpy lady if they'd woke me from my slumber!

To be fair, that is a teeny weeny bit funny.:confused3

I was worried about this the first couple of times, but no one ever stole our magnets or wrote on our board.

I would definitely put something that identifies your magnets on them tho... the ones w/o names we put cabin number on.

I also print out 3 sets of Mickey Ears for the door at once - I haven't needed it - but it was kind of fun the last day to put them on doors of friends we've made at sea. :)

What happened to the jerks? If you found your missing magnets on another door, what's the best way to get them back?

Alert Cm or
just take them off the door or
Knock talk to an adult:confused3

I never found out who they were. Several times I thought I heard something at my door (I was in the room alot) but went to look and there was no one in the hall so it must have been normal creaking of the ship.

I didn't bother saying anything to a CM because A: I took down my board, B: what would I expect even if they did find the doofuses? and C: I'm sure they'd never catch them and I just didn't want to be a complainer when putting stuff on my door essentially is an invitation to that stuff if those people are there. It's a risk you know you'll take.

I did put our name on the back of all of our decorations that weren't personalized on the front but actually never saw them again anywhere. No biggie though. Only about 6 or so of them went missing and I had a bunch of the same all over my door. I was just glad they stopped taking them more than 1 a day past the first day.

But the taking a pic of one of my kids like a PP said? EEEK! that would be really creepy.

Pheww, thats what I thought, but didnt want to get my flame suit out.
It was hilarious!:lmao:

DH just found it amusing that someone (probably a late night party goer) had their wit intact at that time of night. :rotfl:

As an aside - that was the only thing written on our board by someone we didn't know and the few magnets that we did bring stayed put. :thumbsup2

We were on Wonder over halloween, we had 2 cabins and put magnets on both doors. We didn't put a white board on the outside door and thankfully no one bothered any of our magnets. In fact we added many magnets added to our door during the course of the cruise by our new FE friends. Unfortunately we did see another door done the hallway that someone had taken the marker from their white board and wrote all over the actual door. That wasn't real nice so then we put a white board on the inside of the cabin to leave messages for each other.

That is a shame...that someone would write all over the actual door. I can bet that if that happens more often DCL will not allow anything on the doors. They have already banned any sort of tape/adhesive that will leave a residue (which I can understand completely). If people start vandalizing doors you can be sure no decorations will be allowed.

Are the doors like a type that the markings will actually stay on and not come off like permanently or do they work like white boards?

We did back-to-backs on the Wonder in the summer of '08 and had no problems on our 4 nighter. Most of the people seemed pretty civilized. The problems started on the 3 nighter. The people were louder, they dressed slovenly and the kids that I observed were completely unsupervised for the entire 3 days. We came back to find profantiy written on our dry erase board several times during the 3 days. (And yes, the 'F' bomb was a favorite word used.):sad2: WE will not be booking any more 3 nighters unless they're giving them away. :rolleyes1 So, FAT CHANCE of THAT happening! :rotfl:

We have had lots of magnets on both our cruises and never a problem. We also had a whiteboard out for messages. No problems there either.

We did however get crank calls the last night, about 2 am. The kept calling and hanging up. After the fourth time, my DH had some colorful words for "you punk kids". After that- we could hear that our callers started calling the room next door!:sad2:

We had one inside our room, and it worked good if your kids have a key to your room. I didin't want to put it outside so people didn't know where my kids were going. But I had some friends that has one and nothing was every written on their board, BAD. But they had alot of good comments on there.:)

This discussion reminds me of that youtube video of the disruptive and rude/crude teens running all over the ship being completely obnoxious. The stealing magnets and writing on white boards isn't AS bad, but still. The mother in me comes out and thinks "What ungrateful, disrespectful kids. Do they know how much this vacation cost their parents?" I would just be so disappointed if I found out one of my kids did anything like that. It's just a matter of respect for others and their property.

the nice thing about white boards is you can erase them -- even with your fingertips -- if you need to... just sayin...

didn't use on on the wonder, but did on RCL once. there were six cabins in our group and one day someone tried to punk us and write a phony meet-up message. too bad we were all in port together and saw it when it we get back...but hardly enough to make me take down a sign, no book on that ship again or get upset over it....

Oh....hate the crank callers! Hate that as much as the people who put the hotel alarm clock at 4:00 am!!!! I ALWAYS check that now ;) We had ding door ditch ALONG with the crank callers. We had prank knocks where a teen said she had something in her eye and everyone in the hall by the elevators were laughing. Looked out the door later, she was sucking face with another teen boy on the stairs. We called security. I wanted it to stop and it did. There were no more teens hanging out on the stairs after that. OH ---- Stupid little girl didn't realize I might just see her WITH HER MOTHER on Castaway Cay and that I would - um - go up to her and her mother - to ask her how her EYE is and ask her about her new boyfriend. :scared1: That was fun :woohoo: That was a HIGH FIVE moment and a story I love to tell. Stupid kids :rotfl:

On RCCL we had a whiteboard on the door and I would ask questions like WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHAT DID YOU DO TODAY...by the 3rd day - yeah, I had to take it in the room ;) But I did take pictures of the responses we got, especially the WHERE ARE YOU FROM? :thumbsup2

Only thing I can say others have mostly commented already. Put the white board inside, If more than one cabin, just leave a note in the fish, and fold it up. Worked well for us. I woke up one morning at 6am, decided to get dressed and take a walk. Soon as I opened the door there was a note from my brother next door saying "mike, up at 5, couldnt sleep, i'm on deck 10", and ended up having a nice little sunrise chat lol. If he had written it on a white board on my door, someone may have erased it just to be a p.i.t.a lol.

On the magnets, I say dont take anything that isnt personalized. somehow, some way, make them all yours whether it be a name, cabin number, whatever. Anything generic is easily taken and relocated on another door.

This happened to my brother. He took an Eagles car magnet, which cost him a good $25 here at home. Someone swiped it from his door (cowboys fan? lol). All the rest of his magnets (which were personal) and all of ours on our door were not touched. You're still going to get the idiots I have read about in other trip reports that think it;s funny to go deck to deck and take 1 ear from everyone's room number ears, or the random snatch. But if you do have them personalized (or at least write your room # on the back in silver sharpie) then if you see one you think was yours on another door at least you can (tactfully) check.

From now on, i am making them as personal as possible. Room numbers, dates, you name it. This brings up a dilemma though. Magnetic paper isnt cheap and who wants to print out magnets for every cruise and never re-use any? Well, at the last minute this trip, the wonderful Jordak made us 2 more magnets and we didnt have any magnet paper left. We did, however have some magnetic business card holders. So, we printed the magnets on plain old printer paper, put them in a clear page protector, and stuck the magnetic business card holders that we cut into 4's on the back side of the page protectors. Worked great, looked great. and now we just take out the paper with the cruise specific dates on it, and we still have the page protector with the magnets ready to take a new page next cruise. Just an idea.

Two cruises on DCL so far, we never had an outside dry erase board, but on our last cruise we DID have quite a few large graphic magnets (including "ears" for our room number). Most were personalized with our names, and none were ever swiped.
