Do people tell you "You are going there, AGAIN?"

Why do people have an attitude about going to Disneyland a lot? What is your response when you tell someone you are going to DL and they say something like, "OMG, you are going there again? Why? You should go somewhere else for a change!" Grrrr. Ok, vent over.

I get this a lot too. I used to get annoyed but now I just don't care. It's my money and I can spend it any way I want. I know going to DL I will have a great time no matter what! That's why I keep going back. :thumbsup2

Oh yes me and DH get this a lot from friends and family. Honestly I could care less. I get it that Disney isn't for everyone and that's fine. We choose to go because we DO love it so much together ! We do other things like trips to Reno , baseball games , football games , etc. too ; however having an AP allows us a great value for a year for us and makes a great impromptu weekend trip.

I don't defend myself over it anymore - I just reply " Yup we sure are!"

My answer? "Some people have ski trips, we like Disney. Its family fun and great entertainment and some of our favorite music. Maybe you will get to go some time." The End.

Yes, we heard that a fair bit because went to Disneyland three years in a row. For us it is a full on vacation as it's a 3 hour flight to get there and we stay for over a week each time.

Does it bother me? Nope. I pay ZERO attention to how other people spend their money so I really don't care what anyone thinks of our travel plans.

Some of them are simply jealous to be honest as they can not afford an actual vacation every year - and you know how much misery hates being alone!

The funny thing is, if we were going to the same exact spot in Mexico for three years in a row, no one would bat an eye about it...

But, we are taking a break and going somewhere else for our annual vacation next year, but will likely be back in 2016 for sure!

Yup. And I get it from someone who packs up a camper every weekend and goes and sits at the same campgrounds every weekend of every summer. Yet somehow that is a different thing.

To each, their own!

OH yeah, happy camping!

We have a standing yearly appointment over Thanksgiving with a whole bunch of happy campers in the middle of the woods with our dogs and our ATVs and incredible food. Admittedly, its as good (possibly better since FP+) than a Disney trip, but its our standing T-giving plan and I can't wait for it! And no one ever says "You are going camping AGAIN?!" Probably because they aren't as jealous as the $$ and opportunity to go repeatedly to Disney. (I mean, who wouldn't want to go camping in 30 degrees or sometimes even less? :teeth:)

So that's probably what the difference is.

I don't care! I have a Disney rewards card (two actually) that have been VERY kind to us this year and we see no reason not to keep using them (with the exception of our Delta card to help get us out there.)

Bring on the Disney! :cheer2:

Yup. I don't care what people think.

We live in the Bay Area, and we are not locals. We've lived here for going on 8 years now, and we have done so much stuff and still have long lists left we are working on going through. But so many of the people we have worked with haven't done much of anything. I can't tell you how many don't even go into the city on the weekends with their families. We are busy every weekend! This past weekend, we went cherry picking, went to the city for the Carnaval festival, and to the beach. It was like a real vacation, but we didn't leave our home area. When I was asked what we did, so many people hadn't even heard of any of those activities or places, and they didn't do anything or go anywhere. So, it's pretty hard for me to take these same people seriously when they say, "Disneyland again??"

We also believe Disney is great when the kids are so young. We went to Hawaii last year, which was amazing, and we have Guatemala planned for this Spring. As the kids get older, we will branch out more with vacations to different destinations, but DLR and/or WDW will probably always be squeezed in somewhere. They are just fun, amazing places!!!

I don't try to justify or talk people into going. We all like our own things, and besides, I am not looking to increase the crowds!!:rotfl:

::yes:: We here it a lot! To make it even worse, we travel a lot for a living. Our business takes us to Washington DC, east coast, west coast, fly over country, Canada, and Mexico. It is amazing how many people simply do not believe we go to all these places on business. I have tried to tell people there are just about as many Americans in Cozumel and Cancun as Seattle or Chicago, They don't believe it:confused3. What really makes people frown n shake their heads is when I tell them we go to the DLH at DL to relax and work on our tans. :beach: :cool1:

For us this is our first trip to DLR and I have talked about going for 6 months now and I get "oh it must be nice to take a trip like that", or "why on earth would you spend money on that" I had made a comment about an issue with my reservation and a coworker proceeded to say my champagne problems were a joke compared to her real life ones.

Who cares! Disney here we come in 2 days! Yeah!

Five of our six last vacations have been some form of Disney: WDW, DCL, Aulani

People say, "You DO know there are places to vacation in this world that are not Disney, right?"

Our reply: "Sure, and we will see them, but we love the Disney experience. You should try it --- you'd understand."

That usually ends that discussion. :)

I've been on both sides of this. Pre-kids, I really didn't understand why people would repeatedly vacation at a theme park. I had the good manners not to voice that opinion to anybody as I fully understood it was none of my business how they choose to spend their time and money, but I didn't understand it - at all.

Our first trip was half out of some sort of 'you have kids, you take them to Disney' obligation I had created in my own mind. I fully expected to not have the greatest time. I was wrong and we're headed back again this fall. I can feel the judgement coming off of friends and family that we're once again taking such a commercialized, 'lowbrow' (in their opinion) vacation. But whatever. The goal of a vacation - to me- is to create awesome memories, and we'll get those in spades at DLR.

Most of my friends are fellow Disney lovers but I do have a few friends that used to give me a hard time about going to a "kids place" all the time until I got tired of hearing it and changed my answer, most of these friends either drink or are on prescription drugs of some sort so when they'd give me a hard time about going to Disney I started telling them we all need an escape from reality, I've just chosen a different escape than alcohol and pills.

No one gives me a hard time about it anymore. :rolleyes1

It's probably not the most mature answer but if you're tired of people harassing you about Disney it works, it may not be alcohol or pills but everyone has a vice.

I have one question that usually quiets the biggest-nags about our trips to DL. I simply ask them how much they spent last year on payments & insurance for the campers, boats, dirt bikes, Harleys, and other adult toys they have? Just an honest answer, how much did they spend on just payments & insurance last year? I then smile and ask if the want to know what we spent on DL last year. So far, not one person has wanted to know how much we spent going to DL last year :teacher:

I use to get this more often than not. My real life peeps finally understand its just the way it and commenting serves no purpose. :rotfl2:

We are new Annual Pass holders and have just finished our first trip and have several others planned for what we are calling "The Year of Disney".
And we do get funny looks when we tell people our plans for multiple trips this year.
Most of our friends with kids of similar age get it, but the rest think we are slightly crazy to spend so much time at Disneyland this year.

Like other posters, we do plenty of other trips each year - multiple camping trips, annual treks to Yosemite, etc. They are all about having a great time and making some (hopefully) lasting memories for our son .... so really repeat Disney trips shouldn't be looked upon any differently.

I hear it all the time! My kids tell me I need help :rotfl2::rotfl2: I have an AP and go 3 times a year. Yes I I know there are other places and I do go there,,but I chose not to do a lot of other things so that I can have my time at DL. I do a lot of couponing( I call my second job) just to fuel my addiction! :rotfl::rotfl:

We hear this all the time. We didn't do vacations other than camping for a long time. We know it isn't cheap to go, but we have found ways to make it reasonable to go. My DH and I figure that the kids are young once and we are going to enjoy it while we can. Plus we love it too! We went alone for our 21st anniversary in 2011 and are planning a trip for our 25th in 2016 with a trip this year with kids and *hopefully* one in 2015 just because we are a family.

We hear this all.the.time!

We simply ignore it---we love our Disneyland vacations, and don't really care who knows it!:thumbsup2
