Do People Still Fax the Room Controllers?

We will be at Pop Century from 2/7 - 2/12 and while I will be happy to just be there there are of course always preferences. We have not been to WDW in a few years and in the past I would fax the Room Controller but I didn't know if that was still done. My requests in the past were always much simpler as well and I really don't want to sound picky. We will be happy with anything but I don't want my laundry lists of requests to sound demanding. Should I fax or just take my chance at check-in?

Will this sound bad at check-in?

(In order of preference):
Non-smoking
1st floor (we will have a big stroller with us)
not too far from the food court/bus stops (we are not in a preferred room so I am assuming this would be in the 50's or 70's - don't really care)
King bed (but only if non-handicapped because we have to have a tub for the little one's baths)
Room facing an interior courtyard and not a parking lot (somehow this always makes me feel safer especially with a 1st floor room)

I know that at least WL and CR are no longer accepting fax requests due to the overwhelming number. I read this elsewhere as well as on this board - a few pages in imagine.

If a request is important to you then make sure its noted, in order of importance by CRO. If there is a medical reason they will guarantee Non-smoking, otherwise I recommending keeping that as your first request. If you need/want to be close to the food court then you should probably upgrade to the preferred room, YMMV. After that just list accordingly and hope for the best. Based on personal experience you should only count on 1-2 of the requests. FWIW, I would ask for 1st floor or close to the stairway - as your traveling with a young child and stroller. You have a better chance of getting one or the other that way!

Personally, I'd call CRO and have them note non-smoking and first floor in my reservation. The close to bus stop/food court should be taken care of if you're paying more for preferred location. The king bed may cost extra and you should ask when you have the room requests added to your reservation. Other than those rather broad requests, I'd take my chances at check-in. If you don't like the room you're given, ask what else is available. You may find something that suits you better.

It is true that some of the resorts are no longer accepting faxes to the room controlers for requests, and my guess is that all WDW resorts will begin to adopt this policy sooner rather than later. I'd call CRO and have them note your requests on your reservation, in the your order of preference. Just so you know, I believe that most king bedded rooms are handicapped rooms, so the odds of getting one that isn't is going to be slim to none. Also, I don't know the breakout at Pop Century of king bedded rooms but at ASMo, there are only 76 king bedded rooms out of over 2,000 rooms, not a big allocation there. If you really need a king room, you'd be better booking one at the moderates, since they actually offer that room category, so it would be a guarntee.

I wrote one before I left for my Christmas vacation and the AKL gratned every one of my requests. It never hurts to try.

Never hurts to try. Just be polite and list your reasons (re safety etc) and don't sound like you expect it all. Don't say "I want" etc.

We were at WL two weeks ago and I did fax a request to them 4 days out. I had head that they no longer take request but we got exactly what I requested. It sure can not hurt to try. I was very polite and reminded them of our paid for courtyard view and a nonsmoking room and then requested a room that opened into the lobby on a upper level floor.
I assured them I knew it was just a request and that we would be happy anywhere in the lodge.
I will contine to try untill it stops working. I also got my request at an All Stars a few years ago but we have not stayed there in a while so I'm kind of out of touch with them.

That is quite a long list of requests. In order to get some of them granted I would narrow down your list to one or two preferences which are of the upmost priority to you (ie non-smoking, ground floor) etc...The more you ask for the less likely you will have anything granted. If you must be closer to the main building perhaps you can upgrade to a preferred room.

I agree with Epcotfan, that's a long list. I would pay extra for a preferred room. That way you know you'll get at least one of the things you want.

When I made my reservation for the Yacht Club I requested the following be placed on my reservation:

Nonsmoking,
Be close to 2 other parties that we were traveling with,
garden view/lake side.

We had a standard room booked and I had debated on whether to send a fax too but I never did. Upon checkin, we were granted all of our requests and even upgraded us to lake view. I think it all depends on the CMs that day and what is available.

Needless to say, we all were extremely happy and would not bother to fax in the future. I would just make sure all my requests were on the original reservation in the order of preference.

I'd go ahead and ask for everything you want. We did in October, and did get everything. If you don't ask for it, they won't know that you want it. There's always a chance that what you want *is* available.

If you are polite, and explain why you want them, and mention what your preferences are (if they can only fill a few of them), then IMO, it never hurts to try.

I also faxed a request to AKL prior to our 12/9-12/15 trip. Every request was granted (and more!).

I would suggest going to allearsnet (deb wills' site) and read her info. You don't want to come off sounding demanding and asking for too much.

Agree- I wrote our request (and faxed it) VERY close to the same as described on allearsnet. Our list of requests wasn't as long- but I made sure to write them as a request and not a demand- and we got everything we asked for. We didn't ask for a whole lot though... and the smoking issue/touchdown building request was already noted on our confirmation also. The only additional thing I requested was first floor (due to child in stroller as well as knee issues I have- so that might have helped "get" that request).

Doesn't hurt to ask... just don't sound like you are demanding or expecting in any way- and don't get disappointed if you don't get all your requests.

I don't want to upgrade to a preferred room because it really is just a preference and not a need to be in a certain building.

I realize the list sounds long but there probably are a few rooms that meet them all but honestly if I end up in the furthest building on the 3rd floor with a parking lot view I will be fine. I do wish they would make reservations for the king beds because DH and I just do not sleep well on those tiny ones (well at least not together) but we do have to have a tub for DS so we will make do. That is about the only thing we do have to have. :)

I have been around these boards for a long time and I have seem some real specific room requests so I feel kind of silly with mine even though it is probably not all that bad.

I was just really curious if the whole room controller thing was an idea of the past.

Thanks!
