Do People Really.......???

Does everyone really think Disney cannot police itself against all these so called abuses? Do you really think they are unaware of any of these practices? Do you really think they need "Dis Crusaders" watching their back? Just like my boys were told in Kindergarten, "Don't worry about what everyone else is doing. Worry about following the rules yourself, and let the teacher (in this case Disney) worry about the others." Disney (just like the classroom teacher) will sometimes look the other way when less important rules/policies are violated, and Disney (the teacher) does not need the rest of the class(Dis posters) telling the rest of the class what is right or wrong, or tattling.
Yes, but if one kindergartener (DISer) asks another on the playground (DISboard) what he thinks of copying off a third kindergartener's LetterLand worksheet (pool-hopping), is the second kindergartener (DISer) supposed to answer honestly, or is he supposed to refuse to answer on the grounds that a fourth kindergartener (DISer) will think he's ignoring the teacher's instructions and tell him that it's wrong to tell the first kindergartener that copying (pool-hopping) is wrong? :confused3

First of all, there is no such thing as being too "poor" or too "financialy straped" to visit WDW. As long as you aren't skiping the mortgage and car payments in order to go, knock yourself out. If all you can manage is 4 nights at a Value and need to split meals, then that's what you do. I do think making a salad out of the toppings bar is an abuse, but beyond that, to each their own. Personally I'd just cut a double cheesburger in half rather than buy an extra bun, if I need to save money that much then I'll save the 79 cent for the extra bun, too! I did hear once of a woman that brought her own extra buns, since you can buy an 8 pack for $1 anyway! :)

As for the "dirty" diaper in the stroller, while it is a cleaver idea, I personally would figure out another solution, but hey, if it works for you, have fun! In fact, if you really want to go for shock value and keep the theives away, try a bit of melted fudge...

"Swaping" items I think is quite clever. DH and I own two Pal Mickeys and don't use them at home. We consider them souvineers but I can see how some people want them just for the park. Why not split the cost between several families? As for strollers, again, why pay more than you have to if there are people will to share?

Pool hoping. First, it's not pool hoping you're going between sister resorts (POR and POFQ are "sisters", and guests at either can use pools at either, for example). Beyond that, it is wrong and against the rules, but I personally can care less. Just remember, if you do it, you're racking up bad Karma! :teeth:

Mug refills. While I do feel that anything against stated or posted rules is wrong, again this is an issue I personally could care less about. I don't get mugs anymore, nor do DH and I eat in the food courts so we don't witness it anyway. Is it wrong? Yes. Is it the worst offense on the planet? Not really, but again, you're racking up bad Karma (see above) so don't be surprised if for every refill you steal, something minor but anoying or frustrating happens to you in return! ;) WDW will eventually put a stop to it with the bar codes, they've already done it at the water parks, it's just a matter of time for the resorts. I'm willing to bet the $$$ it would take to set up a bar code system is way more than what they'd save in people mis-using the mugs.

As for the extra people in a room, sorry, I don't give anyone a pass on that. The hotel industry, for whatever reason, has made the "family of four" the standard in which they operate. If they drew the line at five, then families of six would be complaining. If it was six, families of seven would be slighted. The line must be drawn someplace, and for the most part, it's 4 people. Disney has many options for families of 5 or more. POR has rooms with trundle beds that will sleep 5 that, in many cases, is cheaper than two rooms at a value. You also have the option of getting a room at one of the deluxes that sleep 5, a Wilderness Cabin, a two bedroom villa, or go camping at the camp ground. Even if you decide that two rooms at a value is the best fit for your family, you may be paing for an extra room but you also get twice the space, twice the bathrooms, and the ability for people in one room to be awake and active while others can sleep in peace in the 2nd room. In otherwords, you are getting more for your money. WDW has listened, and from what I understand is puting in suites at the All Stars, so yet another option for larger families will be available soon. And after all of that, if you can't, for whatever reason, afford a room that fits five or more at WDW, you can always stay off-site at a hotel near WDW that sleeps as many people as you need. Heck, you can rent a whole house for a week for what a moderate can cost!

And by the way, I grew up in a family of five. We managed to travel at least once a year (sometimes several times of year) just fine, including a trip to WDW. So no whineing about how "I don't know how difficult it is to have a large family". Sorry, I've been there, done that and DO know. Go tell your sob story to someone else.

I am not sure i would do the stroller/dirty diaper thing, no i dont think i would.
But i would do double cheeseburger and buy an extra bun. :thumbsup2
Pool hop, can't do, I am staying at a time share off site.
The refillable mug, i would do, if i were staying on site, and yes i would share with my two sons.
Ok so i maybe a little cheap. But i am a single mom, who works full time, and i attend school fulltime (and pays for 1/2 of tuition and books). I had to save for a while for this trip for my kids. So yes in order for them to have a great vacation and to buy souvs i will cut the cost of food. Why be wasteful? My kids are pretty good at wasting an for the prices of food that i have seen, we will be the ones in the food court with a double cheeseburger, extra bun please. uhmm but no toppings salad bar for us, my kids would fill jipped then, considering they love salad, with grilled chicken.

I'm staying at Pop Century and I plan to take my 4th hand mug over to Boardwalk, drink soda, and split my condiment salad with the 16 people I have staying in my room, while swimming in the clown pool with a bag of dirty diapers tied to my arm.

Should be an awesome vacation, I can't wait! :cool1:

Way to go Sanctus! I am a single mom and I earn a modest income, so I look for free dining and good airfares and take advantage. I save up and I get an extra check twice a year...one for Christmas, the other went toward WDW last year and will again this year. Could I spend my money on something else, yep I sure could. I could take more mini vacations to the Dells with the kids instead, we could get expensive meals, go to full price movies instead of matinees, I could spend more money on my clothes, I could have a fancier car than a Saturn without power locks and windows, I could give up my payless shoes for some name brand ones. You have to weigh what's important to you and your family. None of this stuff is more important to me or my kids than a happy family vacation.
Quite frankly though I have been amusing myself with this thread but I don't get where anyone gets off saying "if you have to share burgers, you shouldn't be there". I don't think anyone said in all the posts that they "HAD" to share a burger but it seemed more like a choice which some consider frugal enough to be worth it. It's like saying "if you can't pay full price for a movie instead of matinee then you have no business there". I can afford the full price but it isn't worth the price difference to me to go to see the same movie a couple of hours later. It's just silly that this thread went there.

Bravo! I like your post a lot and couldn't agree more. WDW has become very important to my family after our one (and supposedly *only* :lmao: ) visit last year and so, we are making big financial sacrifices to go again this year. I could type a long list of things we could (and some people would say *should*) do with the money instead but enjoying WDW with our children is very important to us so we're going back. I think most people have a *thing* - what I mean is something that they go above and beyond normal expense and planning and work to get or achieve - for some it's expensive cars, for others it's very expensive furniture, others it's membership in golf clubs, for us it's holidays and now specifically Disney. That's our *thing*. :thumbsup2

Actually the first KGer wants the second KGer to tell them they can do what they want, when they want and how they want and nobody is the wiser. :teeth:

Normally I wouldn't jump into this kind of thread - but I just have to ask a favor -

We are going in June for a family reunion and though we won't be squeezing too many people in our rooms (we got an extra one), won't be pool hopping, won't be tying dirty diapers on our kids strollers, making salads from the condiments (eeeww) or doing anything else mentioned here - I will be sharing my meals with my daughter!! I have a medical reason for not eating a full meal - I physically can't or I will be turning green and running for the nearest garbage can - so I order a light salad or soup and my daughter (age 20) and I share a meal so that I can get a little of each food group without paying for something that I will never (and can't) eat! Restaurant portions are getting way too big and for some reason the waiters never believe I'm under 12 when I try to order a child's portion!! :rotfl2:

So please, when you see us sharing our meals, please keep your rude and obnoxious comments and stares to yourself. And I won't point out that you're picking your nose or scratching your butt in public (when you think no one is looking!!) :lmao:

Enjoy your WDW magic!

yep, my Mom and sis do this all the time here at home... cuz Mom can't eat a lot at once either and sis eats small anyway. I have np with this... its not like your eating MORE than you pay for.

HAHA! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: It's funny though--- because I see myself swinging from side to side on these matters. One side of my brain says that if I'm paying $450/ night to stay at the GF, I don't want other Disney resort guests not staying at my resort to crowd my pools. It's just not fair.

On the other hand, I find myself time and time again reading posts from this thread and think, "where are these people coming from"?? Do they have anything else with even a hint more of importance in their lives? What makes them feel SOOO strongly about this subject??? I don't know, people. I come to the Disboards for info. Vacation info. On occasion I stop into one of these threads to read and gawk. I just don't get it. :confused3 We all love disney- it's why we come to these boards. After reading this thread, I think I'm going to be more concerned on my next wdw vacation about where all the "freeky-deeky Disboarders" are, and what they're seeing-- or not seeing me do.

I forgot to add in my post a page back, that I think spliting meals is just fine. Portions are so big that there is no reason not to.

I actually wish I could split meals with my DH, but he can eat enough for two as it is, forget sharing! Best I can do is share a large diet Coke at a counter service place.

When I travel with my mother though, we've split both meals and drinks! Remind me to travel with her more often! :teeth:

If after 350 posts, anyone is getting tired of passing the popcorn, may I suggest that you give Mr. Footlong Hotdog a try!

I realize this is supposed to be funny, but to me it's just more of the same crap of assuming that anyone who stays at value is a no-class, rule-breaking, slob.

:headache: oy. I think the poster was just using a little snippet from each of the topics mentioned. Simmer down.

I've seen some Disney behaviour that would make your hair stand on end. :sad2:

1. People think 5 in a room is bad? I've seen 7 in one room! Unbelievable.

2. Oh yeah, I've personally seen minors smoking and going completely wild in Pleasure Island.

3. Splitting double cheese-burgers? Re-using mugs? That's nothing. I've seen a couple eat somebody else's leftover spaghetti! The two of them happy to do so - one of them looked like a b**ch!

4. People are talking about Disney and swimming. I've seen a Dad with his son and when they're swimming he somehow loses track of his kid and doesn't even know where he's gone and the doozy the Dad is with, some feather-brained broad, seems to have a hard time even remembering the kids name when everyone else is pretty freaked about the kid being missing.

5. Back to the food..... I've seen one guy in particular who just ate himself into a stupor. Could barely fit through the exit to get out. Some people really overdo the 'all you can eat' thing.

Where exactly have I seen all of this abysmal behaviour? In Disney movies of course!! Our favourites after all!! :goodvibes :teeth:

1. Snow White

2. Pinnochio

3. Lady & The Tramp

4. Finding Nemo :lmao:

5. Winnie The Pooh eating all of Rabbit's honey and getting stuck in the tree. I love that scene! :teeth:

Anyway folks.... just thought I'd lighten the mood..... ;)

Now this is funny, clever AND original.

Oh my gosh! I love it! Now where did I miss that at. Must have been those middle pages I never got to! :confused3 Thanks, that was cute!! :goodvibes

Thank you!!! :) And to everyone else too who commented that my post was sheer genuis. Well, you know, not quite 'sheer genuis', ye said it was 'good', same thing really. :rotfl2:

Now about the "double cheeseburger order another bun" thing, it is mentioned in "Mousesavers" under tips and tricks for saving in the parks and resorts. And, guess what? They also suggest splitting a foot long hot dog the same way! :cool1:

Hey DebIreland,
I'm so glad to see you get to go on another WDW and in the interest of saving money it's great that you can go this year when your 2 yr old is still "free" and your 9 yr old doesn't have to have an adult ticket. Way to go! Have a blast pixiedust:
