I am contemplating a move to Summerville, SC. I would be building a new house a wondering if it would be wise to consider hurricane shutters? Would it help reduce the cost of my home owners insurance? Thanks for your help!

It reduces insurance here in Florida.
If you are building new, consider impact windows then there is no worries if a storm is coming to get the shutters up and then down after.
We just bought our new home with impact windows, they reduce outside noise quite a bit too, win, win.

I'm going to guess they're one of those things that if you have them you never need them. .

But if you don't have them, you'll wish you did.

Such is life. . .

Iirc, there have been No direct hits to Charleston, sc since 1989, do basically it's due! I'd want something (shutters or Windows mentioned)...

And the one in 89 was a biggy! I'm not sure what good hurricane shutters are if your roof is 10 miles down the road. Might help keeping glass out of body parts though.
