Do I need a wheelchair to have the CMs slow down the moving walk ways on rides?

I have Cerebral Palsy which makes it hard for me to keep balance and walk. I have been going to Disney ever since I was 5 and was a CM at the resorts. When I was younger my parents took my wheelchair so they slow down the rides so I could get on. And before I had my kids whenever I would go whoever was went me would help me get on. I took my kids last year to Magic Kingdom for the first time all by myself and I did not rent a wheelchair partly because I did not trust me 8 year old to push me around lol. There were several times I almost fell getting on Peter Pan and Buzz. And we are going back again this summer so my question is would I be better off renting a wheel chair or can I ask them to slow the ride down? Also my oldest son has autism, should I get the disability card for the both of us or is the fastpass just the same?? Thanks!!

I would recommend a scooter instead of a wheelchair. Then you can drive yourself.

You should be able to explain your needs to the cm and ask them to slow or stop the walkway. You shouldn't need to have a wheelchair to be accommodated.

If your needs are met with a mobility device you won't qualify for the DAS. Whether you should get one for your son would be something only you can really answer. There's a sticky at the top of the forum explaining what the DAS does and how it helps with certain situations.

If he has trouble waiting in a standard line environment it may be a good option for you. Every kid with autism is different. Some use the DAS and some don't.

Peter Pan's moving walkway and the moving ramp to get up and down from People over is not able to be slowed down or stopped.
The rest can be, but you would need to make your needs known before you get to the boarding area and there is no guarantee. In many cases, you need to board at a special place (i.e. The handicapped boarding area) in order to have the moving walkway slowed or stopped for you.
Most attractions have accessible queues, but after waiting in line, you may be sent yo another place for boarding.

If you are using a mobility device, like a wheelchair, ECV, or even a cane, it is obvious to the CM that you need to board in that area. Otherwise, mention it to the ECV at the attraction entrance to find out what to do.

Peter Pan's moving walkway is not able to be slowed down of stopped.
The rest can be . . .

1) However, during busy times, the CM's have discretion to not slow/stop the walking sidewalks.
2) There is always a concern for the comfort/experience of the other riders.
3) It is strictly a local CM decision at that particular ride.
4) But, you can always ask the last CM at the line for the slowdown.

also something else to add there is also a limit to the number of poel they will do that or too incase of am evacuation anyone that can't exit the ride on their own needs to have the fire department come and help them off.

I know for past experiences that all moving walkways could be stopped or slowed down but I also had to get on through the exit line.

Peter Pan will not be slowed down or stopped and it has changed at most rides you no longer enter thru the exit line. there are a few that will have a separate loading area but even those you enter thru the reg line even with a wheelchair or ECV

Not quite correct. Neither Peter Pan nor the TTA PeopleMover can be slowed or stopped -- to my knowledge that has always been true. I believe that moving walkways at all other rides MAY be slowed or stopped on request, but there have been reports that during busy times this is not allowed.

OP, a mobility device is not required for this request. I suggest you make the request when first entering the queue to make sure you are directed appropriately; as noted above the regular boarding area may not have control for slowing or stopping the walkway so it's too late to ask there. As for the DAS -- only you can answer whether you and/or your son needs the accommodation to wait outside of the standby queues; DAS will have no impact on slowing/stopping walkways.

Enjoy your vacation!

I have CP too - we were able to ask if they could slow it down. On Haunted Mansion, Buzz and Little Mermaid they slowed it down for me and it was much easier w/ my friend helping me for me to navigate. I did have an ECV and cane too.
