I am a bit claustrophobic and will not ride in the monorails after reading on here incidents where people got stuck on them for extended periods of time (think one time it was 2 hours). If we leave the MK and there are thunderstorms, is the monorail the only way to get to the TTC? What would be my alternatives for leaving the MK without using the monorail, especially with mobs of people leaving at the same time?(another one of my favorite things :scared1::scared1::scared1:)

I would double check, but I believe I read that they now have a bus that goes to the TTC. I happened to notice it on the map of MK bus slots because its next to Pop Century.

all I can think of is walking to the contemporary resort. then take a bus to Downtown disney to transfwer to your resort bus. or you could walk to CR and take a bus to DHS or epcot (depending on the respective closing times of the parks)and transfer to your resort bus..
but if you need to go to the TTC because your car is there, the monorail would be the only option.. you can't walk from MK to the TTC. you can walk from MK to the CR. and you can walk from the TTC to the Poly and to Grand floridian.
oh! there are no taxis at MK, but you could walk to CR and grab a taxi out front to the TTC.

I did not know that! but they might have a bus to the TTC from the CR now that I think of it, when we were at bay lake towers and the monorail was temporarily shut down (while they were adding more trains for Night of Joy that evening) we had to grab a bus to get to the TTC so we could get the epcot monorail

We will have our rental car at TTC, not taking any resort buses (don't like them either, LOL)

I will double check about the bus from MK to TTC, thanks for info.

The only time the ferry does not run during rain is if there is lightning overhead.

Have you thought about swimming? You have pretty much used up all available means of transportation on the planet so that might be your only alternative. Seems to me that I have been on the ferry during a thunderstorm before, but, I don't remember for sure, however, rain doesn't stop it at all.

So you don't trust Monorails, don't do buses, and don't like large groups of people. Perhaps, WDW isn't the ideal get away for you.

Oh my goodness, the first time I scrolled past this post, I thought it said "do furries run during rainstorms".

Silly :/

Thanks for all who gave great advice, I will look into the bus to the TTC and a taxi from Contemporary is a good idea as well. Thanks again.

I do have a little bit of clausterphobia (think caves on Tom Sawyers island) but the monorails don't bother me. I understand, if they bother you under normal conditions then you shouldn't ride. However I do want to share that I've been stuck on one for about an hour before (total time on monorail was over an hour and a half) and it wasn't scary. They informed us what the problem was over the intercom, and kept us up to date as best they could. We had a problem with the door closing mechanism in our cabin and they wouldn't let us pull into the next station until maint. Was there to inspect the door.

Again, not trying to convince you to ride, but just wanted to share the experience of being "stuck" wasn't that bad. I still ride it often.
