Not that I know of.

To book through MS at least one person per cabin must pay with points. (The first two people in the cabin pay the adult price - wheher it's in points or cash). The cash price is the one the DVC negotiated with DCL. That price might be more or less than the one currently charged by DCL or a TA, depending on how close to departure you book. That's because DCL generally charges less for bookings made well in advance.

Occasionally (but not very often), we will hear of "specials" for certain cruises.

No discounts and if you pay part with points and the rest cash it's usually higher for those people you pay cash for than it would have been if you just did cash.

And cruising on points is definitely not a great use of points. It makes much more sense to rent your points (even for a low $10 per point) and then use that cash to pay for the cruise.

This isn't also true. I just booked a 3 night cruise next Jan 3rd for our family of 4. It cost us 268 points for 2 Cat 11 staterooms. Our boys are 17 and 13, so they want and derserve their own room. I just priced the exact trip on the Cruise Line website, came to $2695.24 for the 4 of us with 2 Cat 11 staterooms. Yes I could maybe do better than $10 per point renting, but not having to rent points is great. Can't say this will always hold true, but in this instance, using points broke about even. JMO

There are a few situations where the generalizations' won't hold true. And one of the old negatives of when you can book has changed somewhat. But what if you have to cancel. In your situation the points would go into reservation status and expire at the end of the use year. If you booked on cash you could cancel with no penalty until a couple of months prior to the trip and have only the deposit tied up until late. If one has points to use and decides to use them for cruises, their choice good or bad. To buy points so use for cruises with the hopes of breaking even would be an extremely poor choice.

I agree with you that in this case, the price issue may break even (and as you state, the hassle of not having to rent is definitely worth something). However, as a general rule...as most here will agree...cruising on points is not a great idea...not only for financial reasons, but for operational reasons as Dean has noted.

I hope you enjoy your cruise...I am definitely jealous!
