Do boys like the Little Mermaid movie?

I have two little guys, age 5 and 3. They are just now starting to like Disney, and really enjoyed the Lion King. I want to go out and rent another one for them and I hear the Little Mermaid is one of the best ones but is it too "girly" or anything? Do little boys enjoy this movie as much as little girls? I am ashamed to say I have never even seen it myself so I don't know!

Would Aladdin be a better choice?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My cousins used to watch Little Mermaid all the time (maybe that's because I made them watch it). I think they would like Aladdin because of all the running and flying (boys like that stuff).

Aladdin would be a better choice. My boys loved it and were ambivalent about the "girls" movies.

I know a lot of guys (older ones) who think it is a great movie with very good animation/music. Maybe it's different for little guys because they see Ariel as a princess and see all the girly stuff marketed with her pic on it to little girls?

If your boys are very much into the "there are only boy things and girl things in this world" way of thinking, then they might resist the urge to get drawn into the story, or to admit getting drawn into it... ;) But my guess is they'll thoroughly enjoy it. Both of my boys liked it at those ages; it wasn't until they were older that they dismissed it as a "girl movie" (and now actually dismiss all of the disney animated films as "baby movies", even though they love them when they first come out. LOL)

My 2 and a 1/2 year old DS could care less about Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast- I have tried, becasue DD loves them so I put it in and he plays along not watching it at all unless something loud happens! He loves Toy Stories 1 and 2. He just watched Bambi and liked it.

My daughter fell asleep in the movie theatre while watching Little Mermaid. I guess it can go either way. :)

Both of my boys liked it when they were small. Neither would admit to it now, but that is another story.

I always tried to raise my boys like BK suggested - with no boy/girl toys, just a little of everything. Of course, being all boy they naturally gravitated toward the boy things for the most part, but Disney movies were pretty loved universally when they were very young.

When our nephew was younger, he LOVED the Little Mermaid. It was his favorite for a while. So much so that I even bought him some little mermaid bubbles for easter one year (the least girly little mermaid gift I could find!).

I LOVED the Little Mermaid when I was a kid...I remember seeing it when it opened at the theatre. I admit it, I was an 8 year old boy with a crush on Ariel! :P

It still remains my favorite Disney Animated film...my little cousin (6/m) likes it too...but I think you might be better served with Alladin first...

My 4 yr old Power Ranger, Jackie Chan loving all boy ds LOVED it! He will not sit through Beauty and The Beast, and he didn't care for Aladin until Jasmine blew him a kiss from the parade at MGM, LOL!

My DS is all about the princesses. His favorite is Mulan, but he loves them all. He watches Aladdin for Jasmine, Hercules for Meg and Tarzan for Jane. When we go to WDW he loves getting kisses from all the princesses:D

My Nephew and DD prefer Fox and the Hound, Bambi, Dalmatians, Lady and the Tramp. Anything with lots of animals in it. :)
