Just wondering, do you find a lot of big kids in strollers at DLR to the extent you do at WDW?

Not nearly as many big kids in strollers at Disneyland, but you will see them every once in a while.

However, the strollers at DL are cloth/canvas, whereas the strollers at WDW are hard plastic (as I'm sure you know). Plus, there's NO double rental strollers at DLR, so that cuts down on the stroller option for bigger kids too since they usually need the extra room a double stroller provides.

My dh fought me re: letting my 65lb 7yo ride in a stroller. But after 1 day of trying it we'll never go stroller free again. Once we did it we started noticing older kids in strollers lol. We utilize our free rental w/Disney Visa card and have been pleased w/the strollers.

Yeah, I'm a bit concerned about my 55 lb / 5 year old -- at WDW we always had our stroller but now we have a (will be) 7 month old and I'm not about to buy a double stroller at this point. I hope she does okay with all the walking.

I wouldn't really consider a 5 year old to be a "big" kid yet. ("Big" kids to me would be around 8+ years old.) If she needs/wants a stroller, by all means get her a rental. You'll see LOTS of other kids her age in strollers.

If you have a Disney Visa Card, you can get a rental for free. You may as well take advantage of it.:thumbsup2

My DD who weighs maybe 38 lbs (she's 5 yrs 6 months) used a stroller @ DLR last month and will use one again in March. Heck I plan for her to use one @ DLR for a couple more years. However DS (whose 1st trip was just before his 6th B~day) has never used a stroller @ DLR. Our DLR stroller is a Mac Volo (but sometimes I switch it up ~ we've got a few *nicer* umbrella strollers).

Okay, when we went in October we saw quite a few older children in strollers and I must say....it sort of bothered me. Its one of my pet peeves. Right along with having a 4 year old in the infant seat in a grocery cart.

Before I get flamed, let me just say that I understand there are some children with certain conditions which makes it a little more difficult to endure such long periods of walking and such and I am 100% sympathetic about that.

But for a normal, otherwise healthy child? C'mon.

Some might consider me a "mean" mom, by making them hoof it. Guess what? Sit down and take a break if your tired. Its excercise, its good for ya.:rolleyes1

I have no shame in admitting that I let my 10 year old (skinny little thing with stamina issues) ride in a DL stroller during the late afternoons/evenings after being up since 6 am. Shoot, if I could fit in a stroller and someone would push me, I'd do it!

I would rather see a 4 yr old in a shopping cart seat, than see that 4 yr old running up and down the isle, touching their nose, then fruit/vegetables, then nose, etc. Just me.
To each their own. If just resting their feet vs a full blown nap, hey what ever works for a family to have an enjoyable trip to Disneyland.:)

Honestly, I'm not sure. I've never really paid much attention to the size/ages of other kids being pushed in a stroller. :confused3 I'm too busy having fun. :rotfl:

I will say that we always rent a stroller when we go to DL. It's free with our Disney Visa, so we use that as a way of storing our belongings (jackets, water bottles, etc) rather then pay for a locker.

We simply park the stroller at an area of each land that we are in and go on the rides. For example, in Fantasyland we leave it parked by Snow White, go on all those rides, grab the stroller and move on. It works great for us and we've NEVER had anything go missing from the stroller.

Occasionally one of my 8 year old twins will become tired and ask to sit for a few minutes in the stroller and I'll let them. No big deal.

You know your child best. If you feel they will benefit from a stroller and it will make for a more enjoyable day, then by all means, use one and have a great time! :)

I would rather have my little guy in the seat too. Im talking about 4 year olds in the INFANT seat, the ones with the little car seat thingy attached at the top. ;)

Mom of three said specifically the *infant seat*. Which has to mean the special things some stores have installed on a few carts for people to strap their tiny babies in, right? Which they've done b/c clipping your "baby bucket" onto the front of the cart is ridiculously dangerous and not how the carts were designed.

But Mom doesn't mean the normal seating part, I don't think.

Mom of three, I assume you mean a much older kid, like 8 or so. I know with my dude, I'd much rather he have his rest while on the move in his stroller, rather than waste my time by sitting on a bench watching everyone else having fun!

Don't get me wrong, we do some bench-sitting, but I'm finally swaying the fam to my side...kiddo rests in the Volo seat if the grownups are on the move! :) But my guy is only 4, and prone to horrid leg aches (as am I so I'm completely sympathetic and empathetic), not an older child.

To be honest, I think big kids in strollers (with certain exceptions) is part of the problem of kids not getting as much physical activity these days. A lot of kids today don't have the physical stamina kids had in the past because for various reasons, they don't have the exposure to exercise. There is no real reason why older kids shouldn't be able to walk around DL. My personal opinion is that it is best to avoid strollers. I'm not talking about toddlers, small children or special needs kids. Of course there are exceptions, too, but I am saying that overall, kids are perfectly capable of walking around DL. To me, stroller use encourages the idea that physical exertion is a bad thing. Most kids get enough sedentary time--part of the DL experience is walking! I realize it's hard when you have younger ones in your party. We've never had any of our 5 in a stroller, but we don't take them until they are 4.

When I was a kid, many eons ago, we would not have been caught dead in a stroller at age 8!! Oh, the humiliation! But my 8-year-old would probably love it if we got her a stroller :rotfl:

If the 4 year can completely control all of thier ID impulses then - great more power to them. I have yet to see any 4 year old walk calmly and quietly alongside their mom in the grocery store for the entire trip. A four year old in the infant seat doesn't bother me any!

My dd is 7 and I so enjoy going to the store without her even now let alone when she was 4. LOL!!

When they were 4 years old they walked? Just wondering. Yeah, I guess she should probably walk at 5, especially since most strollers don't even accomodate a 57 lb child. That should tell me something, I guess.

Yes, I meant the infant seat. :cutie:

And as I said before, each individual child is unique and it may be better off for some to use a stroller, depending on the circumstance.

Im merely bothered by the plain ole "laziness" excuse, thats all.
