Do any other parents dread sending their kids back to school?

I feel that DS is ready to go back to school - not so much for the academics but for the social aspect.

My last vaca day is this Fri (except for our Oct FL vaca).
DSs first day of school is my surgery date. I'll be home for his 1st 3 days of 7th grd.

I'm going to miss my older two, too, and I think it's going to be hard on the little one (15 months) who absolutely adores them. Plus, while we've been doing some summer things (camp, swim lessons), I really dread the rat race of soccer/scouts/youth theater/dance/gymnastics... Fortunately, it's all close to home, but it becomes a scheduling nightmare!

On the other hand, it'll be kind of nice to take "just one" to the store, and the baby's taking a good 2 hour nap in the afternoons, so I'll actually get some quiet time. If only I remembered what that was...

I'm trying to adjust to the school year starting. Part of my problem is this is my younger DDs kindergarten year - all day - so today will be my first day with both of them gone all day. I will miss her in particular - she was my buddy. She would enjoy the little things we did, like grocery shopping and doing laundry! But she is so ready for school and is very excited about it.

The other problem is my older DD8 went through huge struggles last year. She was suffering from separation anxiety and having a hard time dealing with the fact that school was now work and not fun anymore. She has been dreading the return of school, and I'm filled with dread that we will have a repeat of last year.

I love having my kids home with me. But not enough to home school! DD8 and I would kill each other if we ever tried that!

I am president of Home & School, plus plan to volunteer in the library and classroom at school, so I will still be very involved with the girls. I don't like the idea of having housework be the highlight of my day. I mean - there's plenty of fun stuff I can do to keep busy, but I'd feel guilty neglecting my house just so I can scrapbook. I can guarantee by next year I'll be looking for a part-time job.

Also - the beginning of a new school year is just a huge reminder that the girls are growing up, whether I like it or not. Which, in turn, means I'm getting older too!

My kids are 5 & 9 and they fight a lot and can drive me absolutely crazy!! But having said that, I will really miss them both when they go back next week.

DS9 is going into 4th grade. The end of the last school year he started medication for Aspergers. All of us are waiting to see how he will do in school this year - homework and projects have always been a nightmare!!

DD5 is starting kindergarten and I am a wreck! :( She is such good company and I will really miss her! On monday she showed me her first loose tooth - this growing up business is happening waaaaay too fast! Thankfully her kindergarten isn't full-time. I have her in extended day two afternoons (she needs the socialization) but I will still have her alone thursday afternoons and then all day friday. I have already told her that fridays are her day and she can pick what we do. Our first friday off she wants to go for sushi! :)

Today we are off to the children's museum in Boston...we are trying to get the things we didn't get done all summer done this week! :)
