Do any other DVC owners book cash rooms?

I haven’t yet and I’m not opposed to doing so. If we needed a room in somewhat of a pinch I would definitely consider it.

We still have a soft spot for the Port Orleans/French Quarter and had lunch there back in January.

Yes, I am doing this! I've got a 2 bedroom villa with theme park view booked with my points at the Poly tower for my mom's 70th birthday next year. I had to squeeze nearly every point out of my contract for multiple use years to book this lol. So my short trip this December for MVMCP got rebooked with cash at the GF, and I upgraded myself to club level for it. I will probably be paying cash or renting someone else's points for one more trip before mine replenish! Not sorry about it though

I’m a new member and have yet to stay on points. For our most recent trip, though, we rented points for a Poly stay, but we tacked on a first night at All Star Sports to take advantage of the free water park on day 2 of our trip instead of arrival day. I could see doing something like this again for a variety of reasons.

I was tempted to swap a summer stay on points for a cash booking with the AP discount. When my family first joined in 1998, we would stay Friday and/or Saturday night on cash booked with MS because the Friday and Saturday points were so high compared to Sun-Thursday.

Yes, we have been because being DVC and AP has made me want to go so frequently and we only have 150 points. The AP discount definitely helps when we are out of points. I also have a goal to stay in all of the resorts so for now, I don't mind, as I'm crossing places off my list. I would definitely like more points, though, as well.
We are going in July and staying in a SSR 1 BR paying cash since the rate was $385/night with the AP discount! Definitely could have gotten the All Stars or Pop much cheaper but my kids are young adults and it will be nice to spread out for that price.
