I'm a sahm and have been working on my novel for oh, four years now. I just watched Stephanie meyer on Oprah and she's inspired me to finish it. Only a few more chapters left. lol. But life just keeps getting in the way!

How do you find the time for family and a passion for writing?

Not me, but maximum respect for those who have these skills:worship:

I love writing! I wish I had aspirations (or the grammatical skills!) to try it professionally. Right now I just do it for fun.
I think it's awesome that you are pursuing it!! You will have to keep us updated on it's status!
I like to think that some day when my kids are all in school I can go back to school and take a few classes to brush up on my skills. I blog for now!

I started writing a trilogy, and a few chapters in, I stopped. That was 10 years ago. I started writing another novel, and a few chapters in.... yup, I stopped. That was 7 years ago. In high school when I actually finished things, I wrote a screenplay, "Nightmare at Crystal Lake". It was a cool Freddy versus Jason, with a much better (by far!) plot than the crap they put out a few years ago. I won several awards for plays and short stories I've written, 3rd prize in a national playwriting contest... ooooohhhh.... This was all long ago. I have so many great ideas floating around in my head, but the procrastinator in me always takes over. I saw that Meyer was on Oprah today, but didn't watch because it would depress me.

I do hope you continue on, good luck!

I'm 48K words into my (projected 80K) word manuscript. I suggest checking out the uber-helpful writer's forum at www.absolutewrite.com Some of the brightest, most helpful folks in the biz. I'd be lost without them! I learned so much hanging out there.

BTW, Stephenie Meyer inspired me to get cracking on my MS as well. After I read the series I figured if drivel like that was acceptable, then my drivel is money in the bank.

I've written three children's books (submitted one to an agent yesterday). I am working on a young adult novel. I've finished nine chapters. I've wanted to do this forever, but just never had the time. Now, I am finally really retired and I am making the time.

I will say that the process of trying to get published seems much harder to me than the actual writing.

At the moment I am looking into a series I want to write called Oblivion, so between school and everything else, I can only write when I have the time but I am trying to schedule at least a couple of hours at night to write.

I've done some writing for Compassion International -- a child sponsorship organization. I've been published on their blog and in their Australian magazine.

This is one of my favorite pieces -- and this is the one that is published in the Australian mag.

This is some of my other stuff:

I would love to try a novel. It takes so much discipline, though! I'm working on a short story right now that I'd like to submit to journals.

I'm in NaNoWriMo right now, if that counts. :)

Oh yeah...it counts!:thumbsup2

I have a hard enough time keeping on track with my current WiP. Could never get in something for NaNo. Keep on keepin' on.

Yes, but I also work full time outside the house so it's hard.....I've got a bit done and some thoughts for more but instead of working on it I'm here....LOL

Wow all of you writer's are so insprirational to me. I used to write short stories all of the time (even dabbled into fanfiction) and lost my passion when my dad got sick. I am finally starting to slowly get back into it. I keep a journal and just free write a little each day in hopes to get inspired to write something longer.

Wow!! great responses!!! I'm glad to see that there are others on here! (now I don't feel so alone... lol) I'm around 145K into my novel, around 450 pages on word.

That's amazing! My ultimate dream would be to find an agent and get published. I have so many ideas running around in my head but I really want to get this one finished. It's my baby. And I'm totally in love with my male lead. ha ha ha:laughing:

I have done NaNoWriMo a couple times (and am doing so now - currently a bit behind schedule at 28k, but this should be a good weekend), and written a couple childrens short stories. I have also entered some of the 1000 word story contests, but never won anything.

I figure I will write now, but save the editing for when the kids hit school.

I write articles (editorial and features) for a professional publication. I'm also on the editorial board for the publication - so I get to review articles submitted for publication to determine whether to publish or not.

I don't....but my mom's a writer. Does that count? She writes mainly middle grade and young adult. Most of her stuff is historical fiction, but some of it is contemporary. Her publisher is Walker and Co. out of New York.

Her website, just in case anyone is interested:

Good luck to all the aspiring writers! My mom got mountains of rejection letters before things took off. :goodvibes

I've written a few stories that were pretty long. I haven't done anything publishable, though. I love it. I really do. I don't consider how to make time, because I'd rather be writing than just about anything else. However, right now, I'm not doing anything. DH has said (and he's right) that I shouldn't bother writing things I don't intend to publish and should focus on something that I maybe could. So, I'm in the planning stages.
