Do all sit down places to eat at Disney automatically add tip regardless of service?

no. They print on the bill a SUGGESTED tip, but no actual tip is added unless you're using DDE or have a party of 6 or more.

We were wondering about that as well. when we booked they never told us about the changes. I tip based on service. No service no good tip!
Its true tha tis how they make a living but it also requires then to provide good Service to make a living.
My husband was a server for many years in a very upscale restaurant and he is the worst for tipping...lol I think his standards are too high!

An automatic gratuity is added for:

1) Disney Dining Experience Members regardless of party size

2) Parties of 6 or more regardless of method of payment.

Anyone else determines their own tip amount, although suggested amounts can be printed on the receipt.

If you receive the automatic gratuity and have bad service, see a manager and request that the tip amount be reduced or eliminated.

We welcome questions about tipping policy or customs, they don't always (but often do) turn into heated debates.

I was a waitress in college and I believe the wait staff should get they tip they deserve. I will not give a good tip, if I did not recieve good service. We had horrible service at the Sci-Fi in 2005 and the tips were included at that time and the waiter got a tip regardless of his horrible serving skills. If it were up to me he would have gotten ZERO!!!!

Also Cast Members getting a discount automatically have gratuity added; this has been in effect for many years.

And, if you feel the 18% has not been earned, ask to talk to a manager and explain why you would want to leave a smaller amount. Usually this will get results (unless it is that you don't believe in tipping, etc.). This could also lead to the server being talked to and very possibly improve the service to others in the future.

Which is one of the reasons why Disney now allows/requires the DDP diner to determine the tip - enough Guests complained about this exact problem; some even tried to get the Disney-paid DDP tip removed from the server's pay.

In these tipping threads, I very seldom see the suggestion that you can always ADD to the 18% if your service warrants it.

Why on earth would you pay more than the "required" 18%?

Maybe because the person does a stellar job at something! Maybe because when my DD, then 8 wanted information about goat cheese and the waitress brought out a few kinds, explained them in detail and then let her taste them before she made her order. Maybe because your dinner took up extra time preventing table turn around because it was a special occasion and you lingered over dessert and coffee..there really are reasons to tip more than the minimum.

I added more to our 18% mandatory on the DDE several times last week; we normally tip 20% for good service in a good restaurant and I'm not sure why the servers should be shortchanged because Disney is tinkering around with the dining plans again.

18% was automatically added to our bill at Ohana and Norway Princess breakfast - but at our dinner at Tutto Italia, they printed "suggested" tips, but left it to us to write it in. We were a party of 6 or more at all these places.

Just check your bill carefully!

Leaving more is not a concern - just add to your tip on the receipt or leave some cash on the table.

People usually want to know what they can do if they feel the service didn't warrant 18%, since they are being billed for that amount.
