Has anyone had it done? I'm just curious as to what it shows and if it was what you thought it would be.
My Dh and I are planning to give this as gifts to ourselves for our birthdays.
(July) So, no we have not done it , yet. It is suppose to show where your relatives have come from. From what I understand we start in Africa (as everyone does), and then spread out. I have been doing genealogy for quite a few years now and just found a Jewish link in my line.
Quite interesting to see where that will lead me back to, and where we were before here.
Will let you know the results when we do it.

I've considered it since for the last two years or so I've been into geneaology, and though I'm extremely certain what countries my family is from (Europe is easy, except it's a little harder for me because most of my family came here a long time ago) there are still a few cracks I need to fill in. I have one reltive we're pretty sure was native american, but I can't find anything out about him, so I would love to do it and find out.![]()
My kids are giving this to my dh for fathers day. It will be interesting.

What is the cost of something like that?

On ancestry.com it's about 180 dollars, I think.A quote from the above site:
About the Test
With a simple and painless cheek swab you can sample your own DNA and submit it to the lab. We run ONE test per participation kit. We will test either your mitochondrial DNA, which is passed down each generation from mother to child and reveals your direct maternal ancestry; or your Y chromosome (males only), which is passed down from father to son and reveals your direct paternal ancestry. You choose which test you would like administered
So... I can not take this to find my fathers ancestry??? Males only can do the paternal... is that what I'm reading? That is a bummer. That doesnt help me one bit. Shoot.
On ancestry.com it says if you want your paternal line you have to have a brother or father take the test.

Oh man. I asked my dad to get life insurance last summer and he had a fit! If I come at him with a Q tip he'll think I'm out get him!!!![]()

My father-in-law just had it done. He recently found out he was adopted. Any one who had any information about the adoption has died and since it didn't really happen in a legal way there is know way of finding any information out about his family. So, he decided to do this. The answers took almost 6 weeks even though they say it will return in 2 weeks. They are also alittle vaque. It gives you a percentage. Like 20% of people in spain and 20% in greece, have the same gene base or whatever they look for. I can't remember what it is exactly. So it's okay but they want you to pay another $200 for more test after those so they can break it down even more.
