We will be arriving at MCO a few days before our resort stay at POR. We will be renting a car and driving to visit some family nearby (2h away). Can we return our rental to MCO and then get on DME to our resort even though it will be 3 days after our flight actually arrives and we will have our luggage with us? Is there a beter way to return the rental car on property? Our objective is to get to the MK ASAP after we drive back to Orlando and return the rental car. We also plan to use DME to get back to MCO after our resort stay is over. Any input is greatly appreciated!!

It's totally OK. We are entitled to a trip from and a trip to the airport inside our onsite reservation time. Doesn't really matter when we fly.

You could also price out the return to a closer-to-WDW rental place. If you're using Alamo or National, check out the Car Care Center or the Swan or Dolphin (Swan has one of those, Dolphin has the other, and CCC deals with both).

If using the CCC to return the car, if you return it during their open hours they have shuttles that will take you where you need to go. So if you've stopped at your resort and checked in and stowed your bags in your room or Bell Services, and are ready to go, you can have them take you to MK (which will actually be the TTC) and start your park day from there.

But you do have to arrange the rental return to be at the CCC; can't tell them you'll be returning it to MCO and then do something different.

As mentioned, there's no problem getting DME after your flight. Don't just look at cost for dropping off elsewhere though. You don't say where you're driving to, but if you're going to Tampa (for example), you'd have to go past WDW to return to the airport. You're going to lose an hour if not two of park time by returning at MCO. It might be worth paying more (if there is an extra charge) to drop off at WDW.
