So i might be going for a day with my extended family the Tuesday before Christmas and will be purchasing a black-out day ticket. I have been reading old threads about these, but just for clarification:

1) You have to purchase ($40) them on the same day, you can't purchase them in advance.

2) You can purchase them at Guest Services so you don't have to wait in the ticket line

I think that's it. Thanks in advance. :thumbsup2

Yes and Yes. Just make sure it's Guest Services and not Guest Relations. Yes, there's a difference. ;)

Oh, and just a little secret that MAY work for you (it did for me last time I got a block-out ticket) -- try to use both your AP and your block-out pass to get FP's. We were able to double up on FP's on the ladies trip in April.

Thanks a ton. I am currently in the process of trying to plan on of my hardest DLR trips to plan. Here are the details:
-1 day
-on a MM day w/o MM w/kids who want to ride FL rides (this will be tricky, especially because they will probably want to see Mickey too and Nemo :scared1: )
-during busy Christmas season
-large group (12 maybe) = catering to multiple desires
-i have no clue when everybody is willing to get there. I'm willing to wake up at like 5AM, but i highly doubt everybody else will be ;) so most likely we'll have a relatively "late" (by DIS standards) start, like 8:30-9AM lol
-1st trip for my 5 and 3 year old cousins and 1st trip for my aunt and uncle for like 15 years (so they'll want to ride some of the newer rides, i don't even think they've ridden Indy)

Nemo + Fantasyland rides + Toontown during Christmas and a "late" start = Loooooooong lines. But we'll manage somehow.

Oh man, I do NOT envy you!

Then again, you're getting to go to Disneyland, and that's always fun. Hope they listen to you!!!!! Otherwise you might use my technique for when we went with my brother and his wife and they made fun of my plans...they'd stop (in the middle of the walkway) and look at the map, wondering what to do next, and I'd pretend to look and make a "suggestion". Worked much better than showing them my plan! :)

Ahh, the joys of visiting Disneyland with those who are less experienced in touring the parks. . .

Be aware that if your pass includes parking, you will have to pay for it on a blackout date.

What?? You have to pay for parking if you've added parking to your pass?? I did not know that. We are considering adding parking to one of our passes (probably mine since I'll be there for every trip) but we usually get the Deluxe pass instead of Premium.....

When my brother had the deluxe pass, he added parking to it and had to pay for it on the blackout day he visited the parks(considering the number of blackout days he attended, he should have bought a premium). Interestingly enough, they still honor food discounts even on a blackout day.

When I look at my receipts, it seems they generally press the DVC or AAA key anyway, so it makes sense that they don't mind giving the discount on a blocked out day...the CMs at the restaurants probably don't even know!

I am dreading a somewhat similar experience next May. My DS12's music teacher is planning a trip for the middle school jazz band which will include a competition. DS12 wants me to chaperone.

I offered to help in any way I could and he told me he does not need help.

I just saw yesterday we will be staying at a hotel which is not near DLR. We will be going on an MM day (Saturday). And I suspect we will get there late. Arghh.

Like you I will have to put on my "happy to be at DL" face and go with the flow.

That's like next year for our high school band (woohoo i'll be a senior) we are going down to DL for a competition too. I can't wait, but I know I won't be going with avid DISers = I'll have to manage with what I have

Wow.......that, well, that bites. :rotfl2:
