Ok I am trying a whole new trip, I am looking to do DLR on Oct 22nd (my birthday) and maybe an earlier trip if possible with my new son. On my Birthday I will be with others, but if I go earlier it will be solo, my DS will be 1.5-2 months old. What can you parents tell me about trips with a little one this age?? Should I bring the stroller and sling? Where is the baby care center? Any other good hints?

I have been with my friend with her little one, but I clearly was not paying enough attention to take in all the details :)

We're taking our nine month old in November, so we're wondering what it will be like, too. I would think that, for a baby that small, you might want a sling, as strollers really are bulky, but you might get tired carrying her all day, so have a stroller that you can park and leave somewhere. We have a collapsible stroller that is pretty low profile that we'll be taking with us.

The baby care center is off Main Street, and every bathroom has changing tables. We're trying to wean Viv off of the bottle and onto a cup so we won't have to pack all of our apparatus in the diaper bag. We'll see!

I would not go without a stroller. When my kids are that little we bring the stroller and have their carrier hooked into it. Much more comfy for baby. Then when we ride an attraction we put baby in a sling or carry it. I see most little ones in their strollers as well. When the park is super crowded a stroller can be a hassle but well worth it. Once the baby is a bit older a carrier will work for longer periods of time.

I have found the baby stations to be very clean and stocked which is great! The baby care station is a bit of a walk from the back of the park but worth it when you want to relax and nurse baby.

Congrats on the little one! :)

Baby care station is wonderful. I would use a carrier. My baby would fall asleep and it was almost easier to park the stroller and tote her around in the carrier instead. She even slept on loud rides! It is more tireing for you, but they aren't phased by the rides really so it is actually easier then when they are an older baby I think. Have fun!

just a thought (no stone throwing, please! :)) you may want to hold off....taking a newborn infant out into crowds and public places (particularly during flu season and especially with swine flu hitting pretty hard now) just isn't the best idea. newborns have immature immune systems and most of the really serious cases of flu (and swine flu) are in the elderly and tiny newborns.

my OB always told me, never take newborns out into public places.

just a thougtful suggestion from somebody who's been a mom for a really long time, lol. best wishes to you and your precious new son!

When we went last December with our 4 m/o we took both the stroller and a baby bjorn. The bjorn was nice because we could take her on some of the rides in it like POTC. I have never used a sling so I am not sure how that would work.

definitely a good sling. I have noticed that babies in slings tend to draw much less touching from strangers also so I wouldn't worry about the germs much.

My Ob and midwife ok'ed the trip and actually pregnant women are at a higher risk then almost anyone. It's why I love the sling people can't touch him or sneeze on him. So glad I don't have to go through flu season pregnant.

We have a Bjorn Dh wears so that is an option but I prefer the sling for me. I think we will aim to bring the stroller too it seems. Next question do Disney strollers recline?

yup! This is why when he does go out in the stroller I cover the front with a crocheted blanket so he doesn't draw attention!

We took our 2.5 month old son twice during flu season and we were all fine. He was in the sling on me most of the time. The only other person who held him was my hubby. We got there at opening and stayed all day until closing. He just slept and ate. It was great. Used the baby station for a few diaper changes as we were close to it, but I didn't make any special trips there. Just nursed him wherever. Have a blast!

Just this past June I took my (then) 3.5 month old niece to Dl with my Sis (her Mom) and we had a blast. We too a stroller though much of the time we had her in a Bjorn also. Even though I have been to DL a bazillion times in my life this was first with an infant. I was actually surprised at how many attractions she could ride. It was really fun!

We took our DD when she was almost 4mos. She rode in the Bjorn the entire time and thoroughly enjoyed herself! :goodvibes I was BF'ing, so we would just find a very quiet spot if we weren't close enough to the Baby Care Center for me to latch her on and feed her. (For example, the balcony at Ariel's Grotto, facing towards the water, while waiting to go in for our Princess lunch with our older DD.) Otherwise, I did use the BCC in both DL and DCA and found them clean, neat, and pleasant.

Definitely bring/rent a stroller too! You will still have the diaper bag, etc. and all that apparatus PLUS baby gets bulky and heavy after awhile.

Have fun!!

Fairy, we never went to DLR when E was wee, but we went to festivals. Sling ALL the way. We never owned a stroller that could deal with an infant carseat, and in fact used our arms and slings solely b/c frankly carrying an infant carseat is possibly the bulkiest thing one can carry. We are strong people, we each did it once each, and decided that the extra money towards chiropractors to fix us if we did that routinely would better go towards other things. :)

So with an itsy bitsy I'd get a nice mammasmilk.com sling (if they are still in existance) or maybe a hotsling if you can get the measurement correct (mine never was, and it was custom-made with a brocade side (I was a b'maid when DS was 9 weeks old and I wanted something to be fancy since the bride was making a "no kids" exception for me) so it slid around on itself and me).

FWIW, for your hubby, the bjorns...meh. Totally unergonomic for adult and baby, and while I'm sure that you guys are wearing baby facing your bodies, which is a bit better for baby than facing out, but it's still better to get a nice supportive (for baby's pelvis) carrier, like a mei tai or ergo with the infant insert, and just drop the bjorn.

My hubby got a maya ring sling, if you can believe it, in this great purple Guatemalan looking fabric, and LOVED it so so much. :goodvibes

And you're mainly right about people not touching baby in the sling. At the wedding I was in, I was wearing E, and this dude went to touch E's head...then suddenly realized that his hand was about to touch the area where milk comes from, and he pulled back in shock. He was the only one that got that close. No one wants to touch in that area, LOL. Definitely a nice protective device. :goodvibes

I would definatly go with a sling AND the stroller, I took my youngest son, now two when he was the same age as your little one will be, I used the sling the majority of the time, but that stroller is key for all the many necessities your little one will undoubtedly need, especially if bottle fed and you have lots of extra stuff to bring along , the baby care enter is great because it is constantly cleaned so you know your baby is being changed in a clean environment and the nursing rockers are heaven when your baby needs a quite place to fall asleep or eat... just my opinion, bring both, even if your stroller is only used as a mobile baby care center...lol

We just returned from a 4 day trip to DLR/DCA with our 3 month old. We brought both stroller and bjorn. Took the ART daily and the only rides we went on with him were POTC (many times) and the DL railroad-- only because the lines for other rides were crazy long, and these were the only 2 that were basically walk on.
We didn't use the carrier/bjorn all that much, mostly just had him in the stoller and carried him on the rides.
**Tip- bring a pair of shoes for your baby. I know he's way too young to be walking or anything, but a friend of mine had trouble getting in with her baby because she wasn't wearing shoes-- it was unhygienic?! We didn't have any problems with it, but brought a pair just in case.

We didn't take advantage of the baby center, which is at the end of Main St. Next to the red wagon corndog. The changing stations in the ALL the restrooms were plenty enough. It was nice because there are changing stations in the mens RR aswell, so it wasn't always me doing the "dirty work".

**another tip, most sit-down restaurants at DLR/DCA/DD don't really like or allow strollers UNLESS your child is sleeping in it. Just keep that in mind. It's not like our little ones could sit in a high chair afterall...

we are going next week and my littlest ds is 3months old.. we went when my other ds was 4months old.. the sling/carrier and stroller are a must!! I did the bjorn with ods..and now have a moby wrap that i love.. dh uses it also.. so we will bring the moby and stroller.. we are debating between the graco quatro to bring or the bob duallie.. i can't decide..but i am sure he will take some naps on me and in the stroller.. i always make sure to have enough clothes incase of blowouts.. love the baby centers in both parks.. when ods was this age i wore him on the rides.. we park the stroller and then go do an area of the park and come back.. if you bottle feed, bring xtra bottels.. i knwo we have lost some and not sure were or how.. as well as binkies.. have fun!

We just finished a trip for our 4 month old and brought a stroller that fits the car seat. That way he has somewhere to "sit" when we're eating. We also tended to keep him in sitting in the car seat when we were on rides like the train, the monorail, or the steamboat, all of which our 3 year old loves. We just went ahead and held him for rides like the small world, pirates, and buzz, but we had some pretty short and shady lines. We used a child swap pass for TSMM which our 3 year old loved since she got to go on twice.

I found several nice quiet shady areas to breastfeed with a nursing cover if I was too far from the baby center. The most surprising had to be the Mark Twain waiting area. It's a large area with a shady bench at one end. Not many people seemed to wait for the steamboat at any given time, they just walked up when they saw it docked and got right on. Also, the area around HM is very quiet right now since it's closed for refurb. The fastpass area is particularly secluded, though there's no bench and you end up sitting on a wall.
