Oh my … sheesh, I would love to know the answer to that too. :scratchin

As I understand it, most rooms have two beds and a sofa sleeper which would accommodate five people. I've never heard of the sleeping bag thing!

The sleeping bag is at the Grand Californian Hotel for parties of 5 when the bunk bed rooms are not available.

The Disneyland Hotel has many rooms that accommodate 5 with two queen beds and a sofa that folds down into a single bed.

We will have two queens and a daybed in August, I was told all the DQ's were that way.

...but this is the email response I got...
"...request a sleeping bag. We suggest 4 because we do not have rollaway beds at the hotels. We have very few rooms at Disneyland Hotel with a daybed....The Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian have very limited number of rooms with a daybed so it's just a request only. Paradise Pier has most of the rooms with 2 queens and a daybed automatically. "

DH is finally on board with staying on site...we are there for nine nights the little perkswith staying on site have sold him...the DLH hotel pool being a big part for our kids....five of our nine nights my parents are also going to be in the hotel and can take one of our kids but the other four nights we need options...

Mary Jo, I am still confused. GC offers sleeping bags when there are 5 in a family/group?

Yes. I have known them to do that (back when I was an agent a family came from the UK and were given such a room - Christmastime - and late arrival. They were not happy, but there wasn't anything I could do. The hotel was booked.).

There ARE rooms at the GC that have 2 queens and a daybed (stayed in one), and there ARE rooms with a queen and bunk beds that sleep 2 plus a trundle underneath. However, if these rooms are taken, then they will give you a sleeping bag for the 5th person.

According to this thread, it looks like the DLH is now doing the same thing.

We are a family of five and requested a room with 2 queens and a daybed.
I think most families of 4 maybe have a baby or toddler that sleep in a crib.

Ya, I am guessing if it is all adults in the party of 5 … then you need 2 rooms. If there are 2 adults and 3 kiddos, I guess one of them would get a sleeping bag. But do you put it on the floor? :confused3

This is why I bought a queensize raised air mattress (fits in a med size rolly luggage) so we never have to ask for a sleeping bag. We travel as 4 but have 2 rather tall teenage boys. So while in a standard room @ GCH we push the 2 queen bed towards wall & sliding glass door thus air mattress fit perfectly in between. In DLH it fits in front of the 2 queen beds.

They can't guarantee getting a room with the day bed so they let people know that there is a possibility of someone needing a sleeping bag.

I have to say, when I see these posts, I think people are looking at this the wrong way. The vast majority of US hotels would never let 5 people stay in one regular room. Heck, many of them won't even allow 4. Disney not only allows it, but has several room configurations to ensure that families of 5 are able to sleep comfortably. They are unable to guarantee a particular room configuration for a family of five, but they do their best to meet guest requests. They tell you that up front - yes, you can have 5 people in a room, and yes, we have rooms that sleep five, but we cannot guarantee you will get one. (Therefore, if one books a room anyway, I hardly see how one can be upset if the requested room is unavailable.) And then, if it is not possible for them to honor the particular room request, they are kind enough to offer a sleeping bag for the 5th guest to be a little more comfortable. They could easily say, "too bad, so sad" the way some hotels would.

Just my .02.

...In all our travels this was only the third time we have run into this normally a cot is available or there is a pull out...only other places we could not put five was a Disney Cruise... And once in Calgary.

The piece that I really found odd was that I only found this out because I directly asked. There is nothing( that I could see) when you book online, it seemed to allow me to book for five. I would be pretty upset to pay Disney prices and arrive only to find out I was being offered a sleeping bag. Maybe it's just me but I find that kind of gross to put someone on a floor that is for all intents and purposes rather public.

I really wish we could just pool hop, we want the DLH for the pool , or we would look at one of the other properties on site.

I agree to the last comment. We are splurging -and $400 a night is definitely a splurge-on the DLH, and this is the first indication I've had that we might get anything other than 2 queens and a daybed. They sure didn't mention it online or in my confirmation.

I sometimes get frustrated with the "Disney can do no wrong" attitude of some posters on this board-like we should be grateful that they let us sleep 5 in a room and don't tell us that they plan to just throw a sleeping bag at us upon arrival. I expect much better at this price point.

I agree that DLR makes it unreasonably hard to plan for room size. Most hotels at this price point allow you to reserve specifically for a King or 2 Queens room. Then they let you request a rollaway bed as well. If that's not allowed its specified when you reserve. Its not rocket science, its an industry standard.

The DL Hotel info specifically says rooms can accommodate up to 5 people. I understand that means not all rooms will hold 5, but there's no way to select what you need. Their pricing is solely structured around views when for most people having the right size room is the primary concern, view is secondary. They likely could charge different rates for different room sizes/layouts but choose not to do that. It makes it hard to plan when you really don't know what you'll get, and its just not great customer service.

I agree with you, it's a lot of money and I'd sure be UNHAPPY if I got told a sleeping bag would be sufficient (not even a rollaway). Seriously, shell out about $400 a night :crowded: and sleep on the floor?

Now, that said, I have never never ever had a room at the DLH that didn't sleep 5 the Q/Q and day bed option. Now we've only stayed there twice in recent years, but I also was never TOLD that a sleeping bag would be a possible option EITHER. I am wondering if you were given good information, as I've not yet heard of SEEN of the sleeping bag option at the DLH (whereas I have seen it at the Grand). We've stayed 3 times at the PP, as a group of 5 (even six, when I had under 3 yr olds) and we ALWAYS had the Q/Q daybed option.

I expect they will be able to accommodate you with BEDS, not bags on the ground. If not, I would put up a stink!

I can understand your frustration, but really, even if you don't have a daybed 2 of your kids are little and could easily fit in one bed, or you and DH could split up and sleep with them fine.

What is a DQ? Thanks!

I agree completely. This is completely unacceptable in my opinion.

We are a family of 5 and travel quite a bit. I have never been to a hotel anywhere that gives a sleeping bag for the fifth person. When I check out a room on-line, it always gives the configuration (Two Queens and a sofa bed, Two Queens and a Day bed, Two Doubles and a sofa, etc.). When a hotel allows you to book a room for five, I expect them to have a bed for each of us whether it's sharing a queen size bed, or sleeping on a pull-out, etc.

I would take a rollaway, but I would expect more from a $350/night hotel room that states they can accomodate 5.

The worst Disney room we ever stayed in was POR with their so-called trundle bed. That is why we purposely stayed away from booking the GCH. Our youngest is too big for that trundle and our oldest are too big for bunk beds.

We love Disney and have spent numerous nights on Disney property in WDW, on their cruise ships and now our first time to stay on-site DLR is already making me nervous. I've never spent that much per night for a hotel room even when we stayed at the Contemporary or Poly. If we get stuck with a sleeping bag for our youngest, I will be beyond livid.

This thread is making me want to go rebook the Hyatt and just stay off-site although we were really looking forward to being immersed for our 4-night stay on-site.
