DLH ..family of five?

I emailed Disney today to ask about rooms for 5 and sleeping bags and their response was:

At the Disneyland Hotel to accommodate up to 5 Guests we offer 2 queen beds and a day bed.

We do not offer sleeping bags at the Disneyland Hotel.

Based on this email, I will keep my DLH reservation.

If you go to the GCH and look under amenities, it does show "sleeping bags" as an amenity (leave it to Disney to call a sleeping bag an amenity). They are not listed as an amenity under the DLH.

I did not think the DLH would offer a sleeping bag but i do know the GRand does. Never have had the issue with 5 of us in the room but who knows.

All I know is that I clearly overheard a DLH front desk CM tell another guest that they could send up a sleeping bag for them because they couldn't get a roll away due to fire codes.

Maybe they were in a room for 4 and that is all they could do for them, but they *did* offer a sleeping bag.

In my life I have been shot, fell out of a helicopter, met two presidents, and done lots of really cool stuff but, never, never, not once, have I been offered a sleeping bag at the DLH. I obviously have done something wrong somewhere....:cool1:

The OP of this thread stated she had an email from Disney saying they could request a sleeping bag as a family of 5 and another poster stated she overheard someone being offered a sleeping bag. Maybe you can request one, but aren't forced to take one.

How did you confirm your particular room configuration? I'd like to be able to do that when our trip gets closer.

Anyone have any experience with five at the DLH....I emailed to find out and they emailed back we could request a sleeping bag....do they really put people on the floor? Seems like a hostel .....

I guess it depends on the person you ask as they clearly told me in my email that the Disneyland Hotel does not offer sleeping bags. Perhaps the key word is "request" vs "offer".

I am hoping that the guest you overheard simply wanted a sleeping bag as two kids didn't want to share a bed or something. I could see that happening. We don't know the situation of that other family.

That said, if they gave me incorrect information today in the email and try to offer me a sleeping bag at check-in, I will pull out the email they sent to me and ask for a different room. If they oversold and have no rooms available, I will complain as much as I can to the manager and higher if necessary, including to the BBB, as (1) they accepted my room reservation for 5 guests; (2) they did not mention this possibility on the confirmation or on their website and (3) they emailed me after I asked about this possibility and told me specifically that Disneyland does not offer sleeping bags.

I really doubt if it comes to that as it seems that no one has reported that they themselves were forced to take a sleeping bag at DLH. It seems that all families of 5 have gotten 2 queens and a daybed at DLH.

The primary reasons I chose the DLH over the GCH is (1) our kids are two big for bunk beds and a trundle and there is no guarantee for 2 Queens and a day bed; (2) the DLH is less expensive and (3) we love all things Disney and the theming of the DLH seems to fit our personality and likes better than the GCH. When I found out about the sleeping bags at GCH, it erased any doubt in my mind about staying at DLH instead of GCH until I read the first post in this thread. Sleeping bags as an option are wrong on so many levels, but since Disney can get away with it while guests happily fork over $400 or more per night, I won't complain but will just stay elsewhere. If I knew for sure that a sleeping bag was a possibility at DLH, I'd go elsewhere. But I now believe that this won't happen to us. Hopefully I'm not being naive.

I don't think you are being naive. DLH has been our hotel of choice since 1986 and NEVER have we been offered a sleeping bag. In fact I was stunned when I overheard the *sleeping bag* word come up in that conversation. I probably would'nt have given it a second thought if not for seeing this thread.

Maybe the need for a 5th sleeping option was needed in a room that was not meant for 5 and all the rooms for 5 were booked. :confused3

I really don't think you have anything to worry about and it sounds like you will be well armed with the enail they sent you if there is a problem.

Have a great trip!!

We stayed at the DLH last week and we had a daybed in our room and there were only 4 of us so we didn't need it. We checked in early in the morning on a Saturday and not surprisingly our room wasn't ready. They called me when a room became available, about 1pm. Originally our room was in the Adventure tower, but when we went back they had moved us to the Frontier tower. When I asked if we could stay in Adventure tower, she found me a room.

You might want to consider checking in early and they might give you a choice about what room you get.

Are they talking about building another one in CA?

There have been rumors some of the hotel rooms in the Grand's DVC wing will be converted, or perhaps a 4th tower at DLH for DVC.

This is good to know although our dues are outrageous in CA compared to BLT dues but good thing they are tax deductible. But it is so hard to get into the resort in CA because its so small, if you dont book in the owners window its tough.

Thanks for the info
