The OP of this thread stated she had an email from Disney saying they could request a sleeping bag as a family of 5 and another poster stated she overheard someone being offered a sleeping bag. Maybe you can request one, but aren't forced to take one.
How did you confirm your particular room configuration? I'd like to be able to do that when our trip gets closer.
I guess it depends on the person you ask as they clearly told me in my email that the
Disneyland Hotel does not offer sleeping bags. Perhaps the key word is "request" vs "offer".
I am hoping that the guest you overheard simply wanted a sleeping bag as two kids didn't want to share a bed or something. I could see that happening. We don't know the situation of that other family.
That said, if they gave me incorrect information today in the email and try to offer me a sleeping bag at check-in, I will pull out the email they sent to me and ask for a different room. If they oversold and have no rooms available, I will complain as much as I can to the manager and higher if necessary, including to the BBB, as (1) they accepted my room reservation for 5 guests; (2) they did not mention this possibility on the confirmation or on their website and (3) they emailed me after I asked about this possibility and told me specifically that Disneyland does not offer sleeping bags.
I really doubt if it comes to that as it seems that no one has reported that they themselves were forced to take a sleeping bag at DLH. It seems that all families of 5 have gotten 2 queens and a daybed at DLH.
The primary reasons I chose the DLH over the GCH is (1) our kids are two big for bunk beds and a trundle and there is no guarantee for 2 Queens and a day bed; (2) the DLH is less expensive and (3) we love all things Disney and the theming of the DLH seems to fit our personality and likes better than the GCH. When I found out about the sleeping bags at GCH, it erased any doubt in my mind about staying at DLH instead of GCH until I read the first post in this thread. Sleeping bags as an option are wrong on so many levels, but since Disney can get away with it while guests happily fork over $400 or more per night, I won't complain but will just stay elsewhere. If I knew for sure that a sleeping bag was a possibility at DLH, I'd go elsewhere. But I now believe that this won't happen to us. Hopefully I'm not being naive.
