DL hotel or Paradise Pier?

We'll be going in December. We have stayed at the PP and it's very convenient but were wondering if we should try the DL hotel just for something different this year.
Anyone like to share which would be a better choice? Closeness to the park is probably a big concern between the two for us. We'll be spending most of out time in the parks.

PP and DLH are both an easy stroll to the parks.

PP's shortest route is through the GCH.

However I think many people, including myself, feel that the distance is shorter from DLH. It feels more direct and less hectic as there is no road to cross and you don't go in and out of a building. Also, the monorail is more handy from DLH.

In general, I prefer the DLH because I like its pool area much better but since you are going in December maybe that doesn't interest you at all.

And perhaps you can snag a refurbed room at DLH by then!

Thank you for your response. Being that it will be in December we won't be using the pool so that doesn't really influence our decision.
Great idea about requesting a refurbished room...great idea.

I'd love to hear from anyone else that has a preference for one over the other or any other helpful hints.

I would say that if the slight increase in price from the PPH to the DLH is not a concern, then you should try the DLH. It is the 'most Disney' of the 3 DLR hotels, for sure. I, like many others on the DIS, have stayed at all 3 DLR hotels (though I have not stayed at DLH in ages because I always seem to gravitate to the cheapest price - the PPH - or the more special hotel, the GCH). I like them all for different reasons. But DLH is the original and feels very Disney, and the walk to the parks, while not necessarily shorter than the walk from the PPH, is pretty much a straight line down DTD.

I am really struggling with this myself right now. I have reservations at PPH and was thinking of switching to DLH if they had a room all 3 of my nights. But then I think about all the things I love at PPH, and I am not sure if I will switch even if I can.

My kids love Paradise Pier pool and slide. We like the location and it does seem shorter than going through the entire length of DTD. We like the room service menu.

I guess I will see what happens if I end up with a choice.
