Any tips for a DL first timer?

I've been to WDW many times, but next month will be my FIRST TIME to DL!

I have also been to Disneyworld tons of times and will be heading out in a few days to Disneyland. It is hard to get over the fact that you don't have to plan every minute. I keep thinking I am forgetting about stuff and it won't be as great because I am so used to planning everything. I also had a hard time deciding how many days to spend in the parks. We can walk around Disneyworld for 2 weeks no problem, but everyone keeps telling me 3 days at Disneyland. I went with 5 days just in case. Maybe we will have a few short days. There are so many little things that we love to do at Disneyworld that I fear we will be missing out on at Disneyland because I don't know about them.

If you have the time, try everything. Nothing is exactly the same. There are large and small differences everywhere. If you don't have, time pick the attractions that are not at WDW and then fit in the other stuff but I would not miss Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland. I like going to both coasts because they are different and I enjoy most of those differences.

Make good use of mornings and fastpasses :) and we are starting to plan our 4th trip to disneyland and still will go 5 days there is so much to explore..also getawaytoday.com has 5 days for the price of 4

We have been going to DL for years and try to still go for at least five days if possible. Everything at DL is within a short walking distance. Take the time to enjoy being there. Try not to get in a hurry doing anything. Go to the gift shop in the very back of Critter Country and try a piece of Fudge they make right in front of you. DL getting a little crowded and the feet need a break? Get a favorite drink and ride the newly renovated train all the way around the park several times, selecting a section of the park that is not crowded to continue on in. While at the New Orleons square railroad station, listen to the Telegraph sending out it's message. The Morse Code message it is sending is Walt Disney's speech he made on opening day of DL many years ago! Be sure to go in every store and look at everything. Ride every ride, ride the monorail all the way around the park a couple times, just for the fun of it. Mainly, enjoy being there and relax:hyper2:

We go to WDW frequently and have started adding DL to the mix in recent years. Personally, I love DL more. It seems more laid back than WDW. Love the mint juleps and of course the dole whips. If you can, see about a reservation at the Blue Bayou and request a waterside table to watch the boats from pirates go by. The Haunted Mansion at DL is cooler IMO...especially when it switches to Haunted Mansion Holiday! Get to DCA early and head to Cars Land. Definitely make sure you get a fast pass for Radiator Racers. Overall, you'll have a great time! We usually go for 3 days, but would love to do 4 or 5. While there isn't as much to do as there is in WDW...4 parks vs. 2...there are still plenty of things to do and see!
